Best RV Parks & Resorts near Germanton, NC

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks are located within a short drive of Germanton, with each offering varying amenities for motorhome travelers. Greystone RV Park in Pinnacle features 10 full hookup concrete pads with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections for self-contained RVs. "Small size, gorgeous view, really nice bath house and easy access to Pilot Mountain State Park," noted one visitor about Greystone. Black Dog Acres RV Park provides 30 pull-through sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical hookups, while Forest Lake (formerly Thousand Trails) in Advance remains open year-round with full hookup sites. Lake Myers RV Resort in Mocksville operates seasonally from April through November with water, sewer, and electric hookups, though reviews indicate the sites are tightly spaced.

Most RV parks in the region require reservations, particularly during fall foliage season when availability becomes limited. Cell service varies between locations - Verizon users report 2-3 bars at most parks, though service can be spotty for streaming or remote work. Navigation to some campgrounds involves narrow roads with low-hanging branches that may challenge larger motorhomes. "We stayed at site C2 and my tongue was on the ground and I still wasn't level. I even had both sets of wheels up on blocks to get the rear higher," reported one RVer about Oak Hollow City Campground. Dump stations are available at Greystone, Forest Lake, and Lake Myers, while Love's RV Hookup in Rural Hall offers full-service RV spots with no fire pits but convenient access to the truck stop amenities. Most parks accommodate pets, though specific restrictions may apply.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Clean,affordable, and friendly staff

Took a weekend trip to Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. Very well kept, level spots, pet friendly, big rig friendly with pull through and back-in sites available. Full hook-ups (50 & 30 amp). Fire pit and picnic tables at each site. About $40 a night, no deposit required. With weekly and monthly rates as well. 2 pools (currently closed due to covid), game room, store, and private pond. Located minutes away from multiple trail heads. We were on lot 20, which is a double space designed for a larger rig, very private with lots of shade.

    Midway Campground Resort

    Family-Friendly

This is a small, family-friendly campground. There is a pond for fishing, a nice pool, a jump pad, playground, arcade, and mini-golf. Plenty for kids to do. The best feature is a haunted trail at Halloween (this gets very busy so be aware if you plan to camp around this time of year). Sites are not necessarily level and big rigs might have a hard time navigating the campground, but folks are friendly and it's a nice place to spend a few days. They do offer long-term sites if you need to stay in the area for a while.

    Ararat River Campground

    Wonderful owners

The new owners have revamped this campground. From what I’ve heard, this wasn’t the place to go prior to the ownership change. The owners here care about everyone at the campground, and keep it nice and clean. They also expect their full time campers to keep their lots and campers in good condition. Both owners are very approachable and respectful. Campground is just a short hike to the Ararat River. Which is why the new name is Ararat River Campground. No tent camping, but 30 amp and 50 amp camper hookups are available with sewage. In the warm months the owner holds church services in the pavilion behind lot 12. Owners offer a flat monthly rate that includes water, electric, wifi, and campground maintenance.

    Mayberry Campground

    Big Rig Friendly

This campground is probably 90% big rigs. It’s a huge campground with 2 lakes, playground, RV store and shelter houses. There is only one shower house with one shower and two toilets on each side. Pet friendly on leash. Close to Mount Airy for those over 60 who want a trip down Memory Lane.

Deep River Campground And RV Park

    Unlevel & messy

We made a mistake. My wife and I are moving to North Carolina, and we were looking for a place to stay for a month in the Asheboro area. I checked around and Deep River was the only local campground with long-term sites available, so I made the reservation. The owner, Scott, was very helpful throughout the reservation process and we thought we were going to have a good experience.

When we showed up, Scott met us at the office and he took us to the "most level site" he had available. I was a little concerned from the start because the sewer pipe was sitting at a 45 degree angle and it was half buried in the ground. I had to help dig out the pipe and when I looked inside I noticed the connection was broken and any drainage would  have leached directly into the ground. Additionally, the sewer connection was more than 40 feet from the center of the site and I only carry 30 feet of line, so we had to back way up in order to hook-up. Unfortunately, that meant that our primary slide was within 3 feet of a giant pine tree so there was barely enough room to open it. Another problem with being so far back in the site was how unlevel the camper was. It took a while for me to get the trailer unhitched and by the time I had it nearly level, I had used all of my blocks and the jack was extended to the maximum height. Needless to say, I did not feel very comfortable with the arrangement and I was really starting to question whether or not to stay.

Then I started looking around at the site and there was trash everywhere with broken pieces of metal and half chewed dog bones strewn about. I looked at my wife and I could tell she was not happy. So I got on my phone, called another campground and made reservations. Scott was understanding, he tried to talk us into trying another site but by that time we had decided to move on. I will give Scott credit, he didn't charge us a cancellation fee, so that was good.

A quick note, the WiFi was limited to close to the office and we would have had to pay Spectrum for a monthly internet connection. Also, Verizon cell coverage was weak.

    Fancy Gap Cabins and Campground

Small Family Owned CG on the Blue Ridge Parkway

The campground is so convenient to the BRP! The owners are friendly and easy to talk to. The campground is clean, scenic, and hilly.  We had no issue navigating with our 27' trailer.  We saw several class A's and a large 5th wheel here too.  All RV sites are on gravel and level. Sites are full hookup with 20, 30, and 50 amp receptacles available  Firewood is available.   We used the 2-washer laundry (not coin-op $5 wash and dry paid at office) with no issues.  Yesterday we drove to nearby Mt. Airy (Mayberry) and enjoyed the Andy Griffith Museum.  We would definitely stay here again.

    Greystone RV Park

    Amazing view of Pilot Mountain

Highly Recommended! We had the opportunity for an extended stay at Greystone in 2024 and had an exceptional experience. This is one of the best campgrounds we've found in all of our RV travels. The owners and camp host are some of the finest people you can meet and you can tell they really care about their customers. If you're looking for a small, quiet campground that checks all of the boxes then this is the one. And the unobstructed view of Pilot Mountain is the icing on the cake. If you can stay a night with Greystone, you will not be disappointed! We stayed in site 10 (end site) and it perfect for our 25 ft travel trailer. The gated campground has ten FHU sites for self contained RVs ( no pop ups or tents allowed), all sites have wifi and open sky for starlink, campground bathhouse and laundry are five stars. Camp host sells firewood for campfires.

    Fairy Stone State Park Campground

CCC Cabin - Couple's Weekend Away!

MY husband and I stayed two nights in a 1 bed efficiency CCC Cabin at Fairy Stone State Park for a short weekend away from the kids. We visited in December so it was pretty cold weather but the cabin was so cozy and comfortable! We loved having the fireplace! The cabins have a bathroom, shower, kitchen with sink, fridge, oven/stove, microwave, toaster, everything you need! They have heating and a/c as well. The cabin was built in the 1930s and is so charming! Loved everytihg about our experience here.

There is no cell service or internet/wifi at the cabins though so come prepared with something to do! We found it to be very relaxing to unplug!

    Mayberry Campground

    Mayberry, one of our favorites

Great family friendly, pet loving campground. Most sites are spacious, all rv sites have full hookups. There are a few tent sites close to office. We have been coming to this campground for 6 years now. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I like a campground that allows you to book a specific site, we're booked for 3 separate trips for 2022. So much to do in surrounding area, especially if you are a fan of Andy Griffith. The town of Mt. Airy has a variety of fast food places as well as many varied restaurants and BBQ's as well. A few of the bigger stores, walmart, lowes, all right in town. Visiting downtown 'mayberry' is a must if you remember the TV show. Book a ride in the police car. Over the years we have found and used veterinarian in town, as well as a great rv store. Might be small, but that store has helped us many times over the years. The Mayberry campground has so much going on, you really don't have to leave camp. Just sit back and relax. Bennie, his daughters and staff will make sure your stay is great. Camp is open year round. We have been there summer, fall and winter. We love this campground.

Guide to Germanton

RV camping options around Germanton, North Carolina extend beyond the immediate area to nearby towns like Mocksville, Pinnacle and Advance. Located in the Piedmont region at approximately 900 feet elevation, this area experiences mild winters and warm summers. Many campgrounds in the region offer seasonal activities with peak visitation occurring during spring and fall months.

What to do

Swimming in multiple pools: Lake Myers RV Resort in Mocksville has two large pools for family enjoyment. "A+ campground.. fun activities.. kid friendly.. love playing BINGO here!!" reports Kristy W. about Lake Myers RV Resort.

Fishing opportunities: Forest Lake in Advance offers a stocked fishing pond where even beginners can catch fish. "I cought 2 sunfishes in 30 min & I'm no fisherman," notes Joel M. about Thousand Trails Forest Lake.

Riverside walking trails: Riverwalk RV Park features a trail system along the Yadkin River. "We camped in the back along the green belt trail that runs beside the campground and the Yadkin River. Great trail to go for a jog take your dog for a walk or just to take a stroll along the River," according to Ricky J.

What campers like

Open views for stargazing: Greystone RV Park offers unobstructed night sky viewing. "In the morning, getting up early to watch the sunrise light up the mountain like a candle really set the tone for a beautiful day," shares Tom about his stay at Greystone RV Park.

Fresh farm eggs: Cobble Hill RV Campground keeps chickens on site. "The best part was getting fresh eggs from the check-in store each morning... And I mean... Fresh Eggs," notes Julie L. about her experience at Cobble Hill RV Campground.

Friendly welcome amenities: Several rv campgrounds near Germanton, North Carolina provide special touches for guests. "The folks at River Walk RV were the most accommodating pleasant people we ran in to. The 'Welcome Bag' was a nice touch and very appreciated. No other park offered such a nice token," according to June W.

What you should know

Seasonal availability varies: Many campgrounds have limited operations or different amenities based on the time of year. "Unfortunately a lot of the activity type things (arcade, mini-golf, horseshoes, etc) weren't available because we visited in the off season. Bummer but to be expected even though we had super nice weather," reports Ariel F. about her stay at Forest Lake.

Leveling challenges: Some sites require extra equipment for proper setup. "We stayed at site C2 and my tongue was on the ground and I still wasn't level. I even had both sets of wheels up on blocks to get the rear higher," shared one camper about Oak Hollow City Campground.

Space limitations: Crowding can be an issue at certain campgrounds. "Definite less of an rv resort, more of a mobile home park... not the campground to book if you are looking to enjoy the surroundings/scenery as things are very packed in," notes Reilly C. about Riverwalk RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Age-appropriate amenities: Consider your children's ages when selecting a campground. "We took our three boys (all under 5) for the weekend. There was not much at all for them to do other than play in the pool, which was a tad bit dirty... There is a play ground and game room for older kids but nothing for the smaller children to do," shares Keanu G. about Lake Myers.

Plan for varied weather: Facilities can be affected by storms. "BUT there were storms that weekend so I don't think that was their fault," mentions the same reviewer about pool conditions at Lake Myers Resort.

Seek organized activities: Some Germanton area rv campgrounds offer structured events. "We were only there Fri-Sun but there were activities planned to include an outdoor movie (with free popcorn), arts & crafts for the kids, candy bar bingo, and a DJ," notes Brooke S. about her stay at Cobble Hill RV Campground.

Tips from RVers

Consider site selection: Some campgrounds assign spots rather than letting you choose. "The website says first come first serve when you make your reservation for an RV site. When we arrived Friday afternoon, they told us that they have a set spot for us," reports Nicky B. about Forest Lake.

Park features for convenience: Look for sites with amenities that simplify your stay. "All sites were gravel and have a fire pit that you can move around to where you want to build your fire," according to Ricky J. about Riverwalk RV Park.

Navigation challenges: Access to some rv campgrounds near Germanton requires careful driving. "Super easy pull through sites with convenient hookups. No bathrooms so did need to hook up water. Every body was super nice and friendly," says Drew W. about his experience at Black Dog Acres RV Park.
