Beautiful Views

Camped on one of the waterfront tent sites. Super nice but close to highway so you could hear the cars drive by and see the hwy from the site. Not super quiet but I’d still camp here again.

Secluded and Beautiful

We are not kayakers ourselves, but this place is definitely great for those who love to paddle, and for hikers and people wanting some quiet. There are a lot of options here, there are over 200 sites, scattered around Lewey and Indian Lakes. Some are crude and just off the highway, and some are palatial and able to take pretty large RVs.

At the time of our visit in September 2020, all of the lakeside sites were taken, but we picked a site that is right along Sucker Brook. The sites 205-174 are all along the brook and the sound at night is really relaxing for sleeping.

Most of the campsites along are loop were great, nice and level. Ours was pretty well shaded, which would be really great for the summer, but we had a little bit chillier than normal temperatures, so things would start getting cold around 4PM.

Now, this is a bear area (we didn't see any) but I have to emphasize that you HAVE to keep all your food covered in a sealed container. We didn't have a sealed container for our dry goods, which in the past has been fine just leaving it in the car, but we ended up with a fleet of mice making merry with some of our food (and snacks) which we ended up having to throw out.

The day use area has a nice sandy beach and a boat launch, and many of the lakeside sites, you can just launch your kayak or canoe right there.

We didn't use the showers while we were there, but they are single occupancy closet type. There's also a unisex, single occupancy toilet in the building in addition to the restrooms, which is really good for covid-era privacy. Not everyone adheres to mask rules, so having a place where you can be undisturbed without feeling stressed is welcome.

Staff is really nice and friendly, and it's about a 15-minute drive to either Speculator or Indian Lake (we liked Speculator more,) where there's gas, a couple of stores, a gas station, and a really cool little nature trail that takes you around a typical marsh area/cranberry bog. There are also a number of restaurants and cafes.

We'll definitely be coming back here!

Beautiful, great location

We stayed here for 2 nights at sight 122. Although not a waterfront site, it was beautiful. Slightly muddy during a downpour but the puddles cleared quickly. No complaints, campers were all respectful of quiet hours.

Loved it!

We chose to rent at one of the farther sites that is more secluded and only had an outhouse for the few sites. Was a beautiful area with a river running through and very wooded. The main campgrounds were great and beautiful on the lake with extremely nice bathroom and shower building. Brought our dog as well. There is no cell service here!

Close to many options for hiking, we did snowy mountain!

Beautiful setting on two lakes

The campground is broken up into a few sections with a main road cutting through it. Pick your section wisely! The beach is wonderful for kids but many sites have fantastic water access. The campground and it’s facilites are in good shape, bath houses are new and have the dishwashing station.

Bring a kayak!

Tons of opportunity here for private island camping or exploration! Bring a kayak and float out to one of the many small islands for a private night of camping or just a little bit of day time exploring that others won't have access to! It's a choose your own adventure campground!

Gorgeous lake and great hikes!

Lewey Lake was such a great experience, I really can't wait to go back! Going to school in New York brings a lot of busyness because of the city, but it's always nice to escape on the weekends and go camping. I love doing my studying and homework in the outdoors, so funding good campsites are my favorite thing to do. I love doing research beforehand to find the best place to go. I like going places that have water and great hiking. This campground has both! The campground is located in the Adirondack Park and it is located on a lake- my favorite part! The lake is gorgeous and you can do a lot of different water activities. I brought my kayak and my friend brought her stand up paddle board. We spent all day on Saturday on the water soaking up the sun. We went in early July so the weather was perfect. We did go during the 4th of July weekend so it was pretty busy. You can also go boating on the lake, I believe there is a boat launch. I saw people fishing, and talked with someone who said they caught some lake trout! The following day we went hiking, and it was beautiful. We did the Sucker Brook Trail, and luckily we went early enough to beat the crowds. However, on the way down it was super busy! If you are doing this hike I would advise starting early so it's not so busy. The park also offers other great amenities like picnic tables and the best part is they have showers! These came in handy for us after we got done hiking! The restrooms and showers were very clean, which we appreciated. I can't wait to take another break from school and come here! I definitely will invite more of my friends next time!

Great spot for water junkies

Lewey Lake is gorgeous and the sites are wonderful! Seems from walking around that majority of sites are on the shore, although there are some inland. Regardless of your location, the lake is awesome! great swimming, lots of opportunity for fun and activities, and great hiking opportunities too.
