Best RV Parks & Resorts near Willsboro, NY

Several RV parks surround Willsboro, New York, providing convenient access to Lake Champlain and Adirondack attractions. Brookwood RV Resort in Ticonderoga offers full hookup sites with 50 amp service from May 15 to October 15, featuring level, shaded gravel pads suitable for larger rigs. Iroquois Campground & RV Park in Peru provides big-rig friendly sites with full hookups from May through October, while Plattsburgh RV Park accommodates larger motorhomes with 50 amp electrical service. Shady Oaks RV Park operates seasonally from May to September with spacious sites for RVs of all sizes. Sites are typically equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, though spacing between units varies by location. As one RV owner noted, "Our site was a full hookup, pull through site surrounded by trees. There was some road noise during the day but it was nice and quiet at night."

Across the region, sanitary dump stations are available at most RV parks, though availability should be confirmed when making reservations. Cell service varies significantly throughout the Adirondack region, with stronger signals near Plattsburgh and more limited coverage in mountainous areas. Many parks require advance reservations, particularly during peak summer months and fall foliage season when RV sites fill quickly. Pet policies differ between facilities - Brookwood and Iroquois welcome pets, while Plattsburgh RV Park does not allow them. During shoulder seasons (early May and October), RV campers should be prepared for cooler temperatures and potential water system limitations at some parks. Most campgrounds in the area maintain gravel roads and pads rather than concrete, occasionally requiring leveling blocks on sloping sites. Propane refill services are limited, so travelers should plan accordingly.

    Abel Mountain Campground

    Great Mid Week Adventure

My husband and I are seniors and spent 3 nights, Tuesday to Friday in June on site 51. Abel Mtn. Campground was easy enough to find. We have a 21' travel trailer and took advantage of the full hookups that most of the sites provide, including our first time using cable TV. As everyone else who reviews this place said, the owners are the first pleasure you find there. There's a heated pool, strong WiFi at your site, tons of clean river sites, immaculate rest rooms with an accessible ramp and lots of showers. For activities, you can hike on trails across the foot bridge and fish in many places along the river. They recycle everything possible and even provide composting of plant based waste. We have rarely found a returnable bottles and cans container so finding that and even composting is a notch well above the competition. Being the middle of June, there were no kids around but the photos and the two playgrounds tell us kids must love the place. Sites are back-in and very level on gravel pads. We highly recommend the place. Oh and a word to the wise, you will hear a train go by somewhere and the whistle will wake you up but no worries, it's all part of the ambiance.

    Lake Bomoseen KOA

Fun, crowded, and running out of steam

This is a solid, family-friendly campground. It has the standard amenities plus some fun extras (arcade, mini-golf, boat rentals, etc.). However, all amenities are in worn shape. The playground is approaching dangerous, for instance (metal pipe sticking out of sandbox?) and the arcade was largely broken (ate a lot of quarters). Granted we were there for the last weekend of the camping season, but these appear to be longer term issues.

The camp store was great. Service was helpful and friendly.

Odd $10 CASH deposit for gate key that no one asked for. No ATM on site to get cash…

The sites are spacious enough, but are very close to each other. Zero buffer between neighboring sites means encroaching slide outs.

Cell services on ATT and TMobile were nonexistent. Campground WiFi is a joke (less than 1mbps).

Beautiful views of lake down by the dock, but campsites have no view.

Easy access to several great hikes and local restaurants.

    Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday

    Amazing

This is a Class A 5⭐️KOA Campsite! We arrived late and Jox & his sweet wife helped us manuever our RV into our pull through site B05. We were super close to the office, store, snacks, laundry & activities. Our site was a “ dirt” site that had a picnic table and fire pit with full hook ups. This campsite has concierge service that will help you out with any of your wants/needs. Great site in nature’s finest.

    Lake Bomoseen KOA

    Many Features But Road Noise

The Campground has a nice staff, a very well appointed general store, laundry, arcade, marina with boat rentals, mini theater, and indoor mini put. Most of the sites are wooded and nice. Somehow we managed to get the one pull through spot that was at the end and harder to get in. I was surprised how much road noise we heard inside of our trailer. The internet speed fluxuates and was slow to unusable our last day. I could not get the cable TV working. All in all it is a nice Campground and most of it (the back in spaces) look nice and wooded. I would stay here again despite the small inconveniences but I would definately pick a different camp site. Again, you will hear some road noise.

    Abel Mountain Campground

    Quiet and relaxing

I spent a couple of days at Abel Mountain with my dog, and we both had a nice stay. The campground is quiet and relaxing with plenty of space and a beautiful river that kept my dog entertained for hours. I was at site 72, an easy pull-through with plenty of shade.

Wifi was decent, cable hook-up did not provide a clear picture, and Verizon cell service was minimal.

Close to Randolph for groceries and take-out. The Barn gas station complex off of Exit 4 was perfect for fueling-up before getting back on the road.

Excellent military discount - 25%, so the stay was similar in cost to staying on at a military base's Famcamp.

If I'm ever back in Vermont, I'll probably stay here again.

    Shelburne Camping Area

    Very nice owners...lovely campground!

We have a “big rig” 40’ 5th wheel with 4 slide outs. Called them same day from Capital Region Welcome Ctr in NY, about 3 hrs away (below Albany). They had a full hook up, pull-thru corner space for us. Offered parking for our truck right across lane on separate site. Super nice owners! Went over COVID questions and after hour check-in instructions. We came in just after it got dark. Loved town of Shelburne. Awesome little shops and great, well stocked little local grocery store. Authentic Italian restaurant in grocery store parking lot...picked up delicious strombolis. Due to COVID, mostly call ahead/pick-up or drive thru for many things...incl. delicious coffee in town at Village Wine & Coffee and AWESOME cider donuts at Shelburne Orchards! Only a 20 min drive into downtown Burlington. Took narrated tour on Ethan Allen ferry on Lake Champlain. Shopped in artsy town. Extended our stay for TWO extra nights. Will def come back. Didn’t need to use, but noted that bathrooms were immaculately clean.

    Wilmington Notch Campground

In the heart of the High Peaks

Wilmington Notch Campground is owned and operated by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. There are approximately 50 sites available, all on level campground and within access of Both bathrooms and shower facilities. Fire pits and picnic tables available. About a mile down the road from the high falls gorge tourist destination and a quarter mile from the base of whiteface lodge ski resort. There is an accessible trail from the back of the campground to an amazing waterfall on the west branch of the Ausable River and plenty of spots to trout fish/swim. A mile down the road is flume falls trails, which leads to a great swimming hole and various height choice cliff jumping. This is a very clean and quiet campground, one of the best in the high peaks region for primitive camping

Guide to Willsboro

RV sites near Willsboro, New York offer access to both Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains in a region that receives approximately 35 inches of annual precipitation. The camping season typically runs from May through mid-October, with most campgrounds closing during the harsh winter months when temperatures regularly drop below freezing. Cell service varies considerably throughout the area, with stronger coverage near Plattsburgh and more limited service in mountainous regions.

What to do

Boating on Lake Champlain: Several campgrounds provide lake access within 20 minutes of Willsboro. Alburg RV Resort features "a boat ramp and docks onsite" where campers can "store your boat and trailer," according to one visitor who noted they were "close to NY, facing the Adirondack Mountains."

Historic exploration: Fort Ticonderoga, located near Brookwood RV Resort, offers military reenactments and exhibits. As one camper mentioned, "Ft. Ticonderoga and Lake George are right around the corner," making it easy to "explore history with re-enactors" during your stay.

Hiking trails: The eastern Adirondacks feature numerous trails for all skill levels. At Davey Falls ADK, visitors enjoy "private waterfall, hiking trails" in what one reviewer called the "perfect location to explore eastern Adk."

Local produce shopping: Farm stands and markets near campgrounds sell seasonal produce. One camper at Alburg noted, "There was a farm stand on the main road we got the best lettuce, strawberries and cilantro from the stand," while another mentioned buying "farm fresh eggs and Maple syrup" from a nearby creemee stand.

What campers like

Waterfront locations: Lake and river sites remain popular among RVers. One reviewer at Plattsburgh RV Park simply stated "Waterside site" when describing what they enjoyed about their stay.

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Campgrounds with updated amenities receive consistently positive feedback. A camper at Spacious Skies Adirondack Peaks praised the "clean and updated facilities," noting they were "close to beautiful hiking, lake activities and rail bikes."

Recreational options: On-site activities enhance the camping experience. Plattsburgh RV Park features "a pool, community center, mini golf," making it "a great summer spot" according to one reviewer who appreciated having "many different hiking and adventuring options" nearby.

Spacious, level sites: Campers frequently mention site quality and layout. A reviewer at Brookwood RV Resort appreciated their "level, shaded site" with "full hookup (sewer, water, 50 AMP)" and amenities including "cornhole, chess, connect 4" and a playground.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most RV parks in the Willsboro area operate from May through October. Brookwood RV Resort runs from "May 15-October 15" while Shady Oaks Camping Resort operates from "May 1 - Sep 30."

Site availability limitations: Advance reservations are essential during summer months. At Smugglers Notch RV Village, which has 60 sites total, one camper noted they "loved it so much we camped here twice last year," indicating popular spots fill quickly.

Varied WiFi reliability: Internet access fluctuates between campgrounds. At Iroquois Campground & RV Park, one camper reported that "WiFi at campsite was inconsistent and unreliable. Had to work from rec center and pool which was ok but not what we were told."

Road noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience traffic noise during daytime hours. Reviewers note that while some sites may experience "road noise during the day," most find it "nice and quiet at night."

Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with dedicated play areas: Children appreciate designated recreational spaces. At Iroquois Campground & RV Park, a first-time RVer mentioned they "had a wonderful weekend" noting the "beautiful pond and peaceful environment great for families."

Gem mining activities: Some campgrounds offer unique experiences for children. A visitor to Spacious Skies Adirondack Peaks shared: "The kids loved the gem mining and train rides!! We enjoyed the water view and the staff was so nice to us!"

Consider proximity to swimming: Pools provide reliable water recreation. At Alburg RV Resort, a camper noted "the pool was packed yet felt good" and mentioned "a big playground which keeps the kids busy."

Security for solo parents: Single parents should consider safety factors. One camper at Spacious Skies Adirondack Peaks reported: "First time camping solo- great place! Felt safe and campground was quiet and clean."

Tips from RVers

Check site dimensions before booking: Site sizes vary significantly between parks. While many campgrounds advertise as "big-rig friendly," one visitor to Iroquois Campground noted that "sites somewhat small and tight but there are some larger sites."

Water conservation awareness: Some campgrounds have water restrictions. A camper at Brookwood RV Resort mentioned: "With COVID-19 restrictions this year, the bathrooms are closed to those who have facilities in their RV. There's also a drought and they're on a well, so water conservation is essential."

Consider surface types: Most RV sites near Willsboro have gravel pads rather than concrete. A reviewer at Brookwood RV Resort listed "gravel site" as the only con in an otherwise positive review highlighting the "full hookup" amenities and recreational options.

Investigate seasonal site options: Long-term stays may be available at certain parks. One visitor to Plattsburgh RV Park observed "most of the sites seemed seasonal" and wasn't "unsure if there were any overnight sites," suggesting some campgrounds prioritize longer-term campers.
