Clean, spacious, and welcoming.

Just a one night stay so a quick review: this place was spotless and perfectly managed. We expected far less than we got. Every site was manicured and clean which added to an already picturesque setting.

It helped that the weather was perfect (74 with breeze, 60 at night) so mosquito activity was low.

The proximity to Anhinga and Gumbo Limbo trails is a big win.

Despite the light pollution from Miami and Florida City the stars were gorgeous.

Friendly staff as well, though one didn’t know whether generators were allowed when I called ahead. That is a question that should have a ready answer… (yes, by the way)

One major flaw: they were under a Boil Water Order when we arrived due to fecal contamination in the water. This was not disclosed to us before arrival despite the fact that we booked the day before camping. Unacceptable oversight.

All in all this little gem is worth a stop.

Get away from it all, but stay close to everything.

This is a small but beautiful campground with just enough to have a comfortable stay. Sites are spacious, but oddly configured so they end up feeling closer than necessary. I was basically standing at the neighbor’s fire pit while setting up my camper; so close that I felt compelled to make conversation or it would have been very awkward. I could have roasted a marshmallow on their fire from my water hookup location…

Pros: -The staff is friendly and helpful. -Spacious sites -Feels secluded but only 5 minute to a Publix and 15 to a shopping mall

Cons- -pretty far from all the Big Cypress and Everglades visitor centers -some sites are close together and few have privacy -gets very soggy after a rain (huge puddles, mud everywhere after one thunderstorm)

Long story short- can’t beat the price for water and electric hookups, but I’m sure there are better campgrounds around.

FYI- they are not kidding about locking the gate at night! Make sure you call ahead if you will arrive after sunset or you will not get in.

Great place, but they know they are the only game in town.

This is a beautiful campground on a beautiful island. You will not be disappointed with your stay if you choose to visit the island and camp here. That said, many sites are packed into a rather cramped space. Some of this is due to the gorgeous, leaning trees that fill the campground so that must be considered.

Cons:

  • ridiculously overpriced camp store (chunk wood $8 a bag, 1lb propane $13!!!)
  • some fixture hookups for our site were literally on another site (we had to walk onto our neighbor’s site to access water and cable hookups) which leaves cables and hoses all over the place -cable lines for sites are run above ground just lying on the ground. Looks tacky and is a sign of some general malaise at the campground -bathrooms are rough (countertops falling apart, fans covered with dust, soap dripping on and corroding electricity conduits, etc.) showing another lack of care

Pros: -location! Walkable to fishing pier, Driftwood Beach, historic sites, etc. but secluded nonetheless -natural beauty is stunning -extremely friendly and welcoming staff

Long story short- the rest of the island is immaculate, so this place feels “cheap” by extension. BUT you have to camp here as it is with every penny for the location alone.

Beautiful and professional. Great time even in off-season!

This is an excellent campground. The sites are a bit close together for my liking, but normal for the KOA experience. Sites are clean and well designed.

The proximity to a lovely beach is a huge win. We were able to walk just about 100 yards to an empty, clean beach with great waves.

The pool and hot tub are amazing. Too bad it was so cold during our visit!

The store is clean and well stocked. Plenty of necessities and some fun frivolities as well.

Arcade is dated and many machines are broken or losing functionality.

Playground is very cool! Bounce pillow was a big hit.

Arrived for Halloween and were pleased to find some fun events happening. Unfortunately, one of those events included LOUD music and some drunken karaoke at the pool area bar. That was, happily, the only disturbance of the week.

Long story short, this place is well worth a visit if you don’t want to “rough it” at a NP campground.

Tired, but beautiful and quiet.

The grounds and facilities at Cypress View are in need of a refresh (no attempt to remove fall leaves, “tennis courts” a joke, playground covered with pine needles, fishing pier splintering, bathroom ceilings mildewed, etc.) but the location is superb. The lake is beautiful and is visible from many sites. Sites are spacious and well planned. No contact checkin was a bonus. Excellent place to roam and fish for a great price.

Quiet all week but got pretty full and loud on Friday night. Other campers were respectful.

Long story short: don’t expect much for amenities, but expect a great time!

Beautiful and well managed.

Fairly spacious sites situated in a partially forested area. That said, the actual parking are of each site is relatively small. We booked a big site but barely had room for our travel trailer and van.

Plenty of amenities (laundry, showers, nearby lodge, etc.) to make camping easy but possible to “really camp” without hookups.

Beware that generators are allowed five hours per day so you will get some noise.

Staff is friendly, but strict. This can be a good thing or course, but can also be annoying if it feels like a nanny is watching over you.

Clean bathrooms, readily available (overpriced) wood, and plentiful wildlife are bonuses.

Of course, the huge draw is the magnificent NP surrounding this campground. Beautiful, stunning views are available with a five minute hike or five minute drive.

Worth every penny.

Feel like a sardine, but nice place

These campsites are packed together. It is nearly impossible to not disturb neighbors with slide outs, noise, etc. as the sites are barely wide enough for a camper and a picnic table. See the first picture for an idea of just how close the sites are. You’ll see four sites in a space that should be for two (or one!).

That said, the place is friendly and packed with amenities. Everyone working here was kind, respectful, and considerate. The grounds, though a bit dated, are cleaned throughout the day by dedicated staff.

Be careful settling in if you have a rig longer than 25’. Many corners here are not meant to accommodate large vehicles when turning in the wrong direction. Be sure you get good directions to your site!

We stayed in October during the week so the place was quiet during the week. It clearly fills up on weekends. Many amenities were closed or reduced hours so I can’t comment on those.

Of note, the vast majority of sites here are seasonal. Many campers have apparently been parked here for years. Tons of destination units.

Worth a visit if you don’t mind close quarters camping. If you need space then you better keep looking.

Fun, crowded, and running out of steam

This is a solid, family-friendly campground. It has the standard amenities plus some fun extras (arcade, mini-golf, boat rentals, etc.). However, all amenities are in worn shape. The playground is approaching dangerous, for instance (metal pipe sticking out of sandbox?) and the arcade was largely broken (ate a lot of quarters). Granted we were there for the last weekend of the camping season, but these appear to be longer term issues.

The camp store was great. Service was helpful and friendly.

Odd $10 CASH deposit for gate key that no one asked for. No ATM on site to get cash…

The sites are spacious enough, but are very close to each other. Zero buffer between neighboring sites means encroaching slide outs.

Cell services on ATT and TMobile were nonexistent. Campground WiFi is a joke (less than 1mbps).

Beautiful views of lake down by the dock, but campsites have no view.

Easy access to several great hikes and local restaurants.

Wow.

This is more luxury than campground, but if that is your style then you will love this place. Four pools? Sauna? Spotless campsites (even charcoal is removed from fire pit rings between guests!)? Arcade? Beautifully designed buildings? Yes, this place has it all and more. This campground also has two of the best playgrounds I’ve seen at any venue.

That said, as a lover of campgrounds I would really give this a 4.5 because it is truly cramped. Some sites are just glorified parking spaces with a sewer hookup. There is tree cover in many places, but there is zero privacy at the sites.

Long story short: if you are looking for pampered fun then go here. If you are looking for “real camping” go to a state park for 1/5 the price.

Trying to be a resort. Mile wide, inch deep.

This is a fine campground, but nothing stands out as well done. They simply have too much going on and nothing is done extremely well. Pool is good, but needs to be refreshed. Mini golf is free, but is a joke of a course. Sites are big enough, but main camping are is packed in for maximum profit at the expense of elbow room.

The Highlands are recommended for anyone with a camper over 30’. The area was super quiet (silent after 9pm during our visit) but the rest of the campground gets rowdy since it is so packed in.

Long story short, this place is great if you want a quick stay. Would not stay here for a week.

Secluded state park camping

Quite impressed with the recently renovated electric sites. Rare to find state park campgrounds in the Northeast with so many electric sites. All in M section are well spaced and wooded. Bathrooms are maintained and clean. Only complaints are the severely chipping paint on picnic table and overpriced ($7) firewood bundles.

Other pros: -Friendly checkin service. -new dishwashing station -many dumpsters for trash -large RV dump station -abundant hiking trails -25 minutes to great beaches -many fresh water access points

Other cons: -tons of mosquitoes in August due to wooded area -no sites with sewer or water -sites are narrow due to plentiful spacing in between -thorns are everywhere on the side of the road
