    USA RV Park

    Great Spot in Gallup

This is a really nice RV park on the West side of Gallup with easy access to I-40. It was a perfect overnight stop but would be good for longer stays as well. Access through the park is great, sites are gravel, level, and good size. We had a pull through site which was about 80 feet long and nice and wide. They also have back in sites and tent sites. We had a full hookup site and the connections were in great shape and located just where they needed to be. There are some trees between some sites but most of the area is pretty open. Some of the trees are large enough to block a satellite dish. They offer cable TV but we did not try that. They have free wifi which was decent. The restrooms, showers, and laundry rooms were clean and good size as well. There is a small dog park in the back and there is also a dump station. Check in was easy and the staff were friendly and helpful. They also have a large gift shop and a small area with groceries. They offer a barbeque on some nights which is cooked right there behind the office. Cell service from AT&T and Verizon was great. We paid $37 for one night with Escapees discount. There is clear pride of ownership here.

    USA RV Park

    Clean, organized, and reasonably priced

Needed an overnight stay along Interstate 40 in New Mexico.  Check-in was quick and easy, the sites are arranged so that RV doors are not facing the neighbor's sewage pipe, which is something I always appreciate.  Most of the sites are pull-through.  The park is well laid out and covered with an attractive reddish-brown gravel.  The facilities were clean, the staff was pleasant.  The park felt safe though the neighborhood around it is economically distressed.  The park is family friendly; there is a dog-park, a nice pool, and attractive common area near the office with tables and statuary with a cute bear theme.  The only negatives are not under the control of the park: trains pass by frequently day and night, and in the evening the mosquitos are voracious.  My wife and I agree that we would return here.

    Excellent Campground with Unexpected Amenities

When driving through Gallup, one doesn't expect to find such a great place to land on Route 66. On the surface it may appear to be a great over-nighter location - which it is! Level pull-through sites with a picnic table.  But it's so much more than that. First the business seems to be comprised of  family-owned and operated. They have excellent amenities including a lovely pool and playground area. Their shop is absolutely GREAT. The laundry area, showers, dish-washing area and other services are excellent.  Sites include electric, water and a picnic table. A dump station is positioned right by the exit. We had an unexpected delay for four days due to a medical situation, and they recommended a doctor who helped immensely, and they worked with us day to day to keep us in our spot as needed. Highly recommend this RV Park! Great folks!

El Morro RV Park and Cabins

    Special Spot

We loved this RV park for many reasons. Friendly people, creative vibe, nice campground, cozy cabins, full hookups for RVs, beautiful spot, free-range chickens, pet friendly, plus a yurt with enchanting wind chimes, spiritual labyrinth, a gong, art and healing artifacts. Not to mention the groovy Ancient Way cafe which was closed when we were there (April 2021) but opening next month. My parents stayed in the cabin and loved it, we stayed in our camper van. We really enjoyed talking with some of the folks who live there and it’s a very welcoming community. Feels like home. Morro National monument nearby is spectacular. We’d love to return and stay for a few weeks. Special spot.

    Bluewater Lake State Park Campground

    Lakefront camping

Uncrowded when we were there State park located right on a man-made lake. unfortunately, the lake level is extremely low! Decent sites each with picnic table and fire pit some with shade canopies others with a little natural tree cover, not a lot of privacy. Pit toilets, no drinking water available except at maybe the RV sites with hookups and at the pump outstation? Weak cell signal. Seems more suited for RV's.

    Bluewater Lake State Park Campground

    Decent campgrounds

Good campsites. Clean showers and full hook ups as well as low key pull through sites. None of the sites are close to the water but only a short hike or drive. Catch release Tiger Muskie was the fishing my husband was after.

    Bluewater Lake State Park Campground

    Very nice waterfront camping

Very nice park & camping area. Wild horses & jack rabbits present. We dispersed & parked our truck camper right on the shoreline for $8. The hook up sites over looked the water (paved pad, pavilion, fire ring, 30&50 amp electric) bathrooms, showers, dump station. Boat ramp. Nice Pike and Muskie for the anglers.

    USA RV Park

Nice Campground for a couple nights

We were in Site 113 in the back of the park.  Pull through gravel site.  Sites are very close.  No privacy. We had a nice chat with our friendly neighbors though. Fenced Dog Park but it was dirt. No grass. Nice, clean pool!  Laundry facility was nice.  AT&T, T-Mobile Cell Service great. Drove to the Historic El Rancho Hotel & 49er Lounge for entertainment one night.  BBQ dinner at the park on Tuesday evening was pretty decent. Would recommend this park!

    Red Rock Park & Campground

    OK place for 1-2 nights

This is a huge complex that contains a convention center, museum, hiking trails, and a rodeo/bull riding arena in addition to two camping areas. The arena is tucked into the red hills so it is a pretty nice spot. There also must be 1000 stalls for horses and livestock, it is really massive. The campground area and arena are cradled by spectacular red cliffs formed over 200 million years ago in the Age of the Dinosaurs. Campsites have water and electric. Many of the sites have shade. Sites are very sandy and some have a picnic table. Access was pretty easy and the sites are very level. Overall though the campground was pretty messy. It does not seem like it is being well maintained at the moment probably due to Covid restrictions. There are restrooms but most of the time they were locked. Verizon cell service was very good and our AT&T hotspot worked well.

Had cell service (Verizon and T-mobile)," making it practical for those wanting to stay connected while exploring the backcountry.

Fishing at Bluewater Lake: Bluewater Lake State Park Campground offers shoreline fishing opportunities year-round. "There is a nice beach as well as boating and fishing. The campground is broken up into a couple areas," reports Sara S., highlighting the multiple recreation options available.

Cultural exploration: Native American heritage sites and trading posts are accessible from most camping areas. "Gallup is a super interesting place and could have easily spent way more time than we did," says Mike M. about staying at USA RV Park while exploring local cultural attractions.

What campers like

Affordability in remote settings: Six Mile Canyon Road Dispersed Site provides free camping with privacy. "We did have to drive a couple miles to get away from other campers. Was perfectly fine after a day of cross country driving," explains Jami C., noting the balance between accessibility and seclusion.

Clean facilities at state parks: Maintenance standards at established campgrounds exceed expectations. According to Bryson D., USA RV Park offers "Clean showers, a nice heated pool, very friendly staff," while Robert G. notes about McGaffey Campground: "The restrooms are some of the cleanest we've seen so there's a big plus!"

Weather conditions: The higher elevation camping areas provide relief during summer months. "Just off & along the interstate, you'd never know. The valley road cuts through green canyon bluffs and rolling hills with good tree coverage," describes Twan M. about Six Mile Canyon, highlighting the environmental contrast with the surrounding desert.

Dark skies for stargazing: Areas away from Gallup offer minimal light pollution. "The stars were bomb dot com," reports Nat&Rach C. about their experience at Six Mile Canyon Dispersed Site, pointing to the quality of night sky viewing in the area.

What you should know

Tips from RVers

Big rig accessibility: El Morro RV Park and Cabins accommodates larger vehicles despite remote location. Max M. shares: "Full camper hookups. It is just minutes from El Morro Nat'l Monument and close to Mal Pais Volcano flows. I recommend the place."

Level site availability: Finding flat parking at dispersed sites requires planning. Several sites off the smaller two track roads can support good size trailers with lots of flat open space."

Hookup quality variations: Electric and water connections differ between facilities. Grace D. reports about Bluewater Lake State Park Campground: "Nice host greeted us and explained where the best sites were for our very large 5th Wheel. The sites with power were already taken, but we can boondock and the pull-through sites were great."

Temperature management: Higher elevation campgrounds experience significant temperature swings. Timothy N. notes about Turkey Springs: "It is above 7k, so it does get colder at night than the local forecast for Gallup," reminding RVers to prepare for overnight temperature drops.
