Each cabin provides basic shelter with proximity to the resort's amenities including clean bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. Most cabin accommodations require guests to bring their own linens, towels, and personal items. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between properties, with some offering minimal cooking options. Iron Horse provides access to nearby restaurants, with one reviewer mentioning "they offer a 20% off coupon to use at the Hilton Garden Inn restaurant." Seasonal availability affects cabin bookings, with Iron Horse operating year-round while other properties may have limited seasons. Iron Horse RV Resort

    Professionally kept RV Resort

The  Iron Horse RV Resort in Elko, NV is a real gem in the Nevada desert. It's on the main highway parallel to I-80 on the north end of town. You have to keep your eyes open on the right side to catch the entrance signage. The Resort is tucked down a private road. The office folks were very professional.

This RV Resort was extremely well kept and fairly quiet in the evening. Like many RV Resort these days, there are permanent or transient work related residents that are mostly out the perimeter sites.

All sites have concrete patios, flat and level packed gravel pads, picnic tables and full hookups. There are even a series of mini bungalows.

As you can see, Yoshi agrees!

A beautifully laid out campground with gravel sites and nice landscaping. It’s nestled in the heart of Elko, Nevada, a short drive from the Ruby Mountains and a couple of smaller casinos and restaurants.

The dog park was small, but well maintained and provided waste bags. There is also a spa/hot tub available to guests which is a nice addition. They have clean bathrooms and laundry available as well.

    Ultra Clean Traditional RV Park

Stayed overnight here on the way back from Grand Teton. This is your basic RV park with RVs lined in neat rows side-by-side. The main office has a nice game room, laundry facilities and ultra clean bathrooms and showers. Nice leveled spots with concrete pads and some grass. Elko is a cool old Nevada town with, surprisingly, a lot to see. Please make sure to stop in at The Star Hotel for the best Basque dinner you will ever have! Bring your appetite cause it’s a TON of food!

    Nice but noisy

We spent a night in hot August here in our Westfalia camping van. There are no tent sites but cabins and RV spots. Nice bathrooms, showers, a playroom with a ping pong table. The cabins looked attractive. It looked like a lot of people were there long-term. It really is more for RVers and those that want to stay in a cabin. I would recommend, except there is a train that goes by at least two times and blows its horn (this on a Saturday night). The coyotes in the middle of the night were wonderful but the trains weren’t. Also I had trouble getting on the internet with my iPhone 6–couldn’t connect to their WiFi.

    Great Site, Bad Noise

The campground is modern with all of the glamping amenities. However, Elko is a gold mine Mecca so the trains run, and run, and run. Good overnight, but troubled sleepers will struggle.

    Probably the best in Elko

Clean restrooms. The pool is tiny. In spite of appearing to be near the highway, the park is down a hill and there is no noise from it. The trains aren't terrible, but you can't escape them in Elko - expect a whistle sometime during the night. Good spacing between sites with grass. Lot's of full-timers but a number sites for short termers. Most are one-nighters. It is a shame not to stop at the free BLM California Trail museum 10 miles down the road, or Lamoille Canyon which is beautiful.

    Great price

We only stayed here one night, it was just a half way stopping point for us going into Utah. What they consider to be a pool was extremely small. The pool and the jacuzzi were about the same size, however you do have full access to the Hilton next door. The Wi-Fi and the phone service here worked great. There are no fire pits and no fires are allowed. the park was extremely clean and well-maintained. And at the casino just down the street on a Friday night they had all-you-can-eat prime rib. very affordable prices. Would definitely return.

    Nice park

This is a very nicely landscaped park with pull thrus and back ins. Each site has a concrete pad with a good picnic table (no butt splinters here).

Guide to Elko

Cabin accommodations near Elko, Nevada offer varied experiences from convenient in-town lodging to remote wilderness retreats. This high desert region sits at approximately 5,000 feet elevation, experiencing dramatic temperature shifts between daytime and nighttime hours throughout the year. Winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing while summer days can exceed 90°F, requiring proper preparation for cabin stays.

What to do

Explore Ruby Mountains: The nearby Ruby Mountains provide excellent day trip opportunities from Elko cabin accommodations. Iron Horse RV Resort serves as a convenient basecamp with its well-maintained cabins. "Elko is a short drive from the Ruby Mountains and a couple of smaller casinos and restaurants," notes Carlyne F., who appreciated having a comfortable place to return to after outdoor adventures.

Visit local Basque establishments: Elko has strong Basque heritage represented in local restaurants. "Please make sure to stop in at The Star Hotel for the best Basque dinner you will ever have! Bring your appetite cause it's a TON of food!" recommends Laura F. after staying at Iron Horse RV Resort during her travels.

Disconnect completely: For those seeking solitude rather than activities, Sheep Camp in Ruby Valley provides total immersion in nature without modern distractions. One visitor reflected on childhood experiences, noting "I was a kid I will camp in village with my father and mom old memories are best in village," highlighting the nostalgic, simple experience available here.

What campers like

Convenient amenities: Iron Horse RV Resort offers practical comforts that enhance cabin stays. Nancy E. appreciated that "They offer a 20% off coupon to use at the Hilton Garden Inn restaurant. Their Gym and business office is also available for use if you stay at the camp ground."

Peaceful settings: Despite being near town, certain cabin properties maintain a quiet atmosphere. "We aren't RV park people at all. We definitely prefer disbursed, alone camping. However, that wasn't a possibility last night so we decided to stay at Iron Horse. It's super nice. Very clean and quiet," reports Katy G., who typically prefers more remote settings.

Recreational facilities: On-site activities complement cabin accommodations at certain properties. Laura F. mentioned Iron Horse has "a nice game room, laundry facilities and ultra clean bathrooms and showers," providing entertainment options when not exploring the surrounding area.

What you should know

Train noise concerns: Some cabin properties experience intermittent train disruptions. "It really is more for RVers and those that want to stay in a cabin. I would recommend, except there is a train that goes by at least two times and blows its horn," notes Catherine C. about Iron Horse RV Resort.

Wi-Fi limitations: Connectivity varies considerably between properties. Greg K. found this problematic at Iron Horse: "What I didn't like was the fact that they advertised Wi-Fi, which they had, but not at my site. They said they had trouble pushing out the network, but that was information I didn't have when booking."

Reservation necessities: Popular cabin properties fill quickly, especially during peak travel periods. "We came through at 10pm on a Saturday and they had zero vacancy. Looks like after hours registration is possible if they aren't booked up... Super sad we didn't make reservations ahead of time!" shared Claudia M. after being unable to secure a cabin at Iron Horse.

Tips for camping with families

Consider access to bathrooms: Family cabin camping requires planning around bathroom facilities. Some properties offer excellent amenities, as noted by Carlyne F.: "There is also a spa/hot tub available to guests which is a nice addition. They have clean bathrooms and laundry available as well."

Look for pet-friendly options: Many families travel with pets, making accommodations with dog areas valuable. "The dog park was small, but well maintained and provided waste bags," observed Carlyne F. about Iron Horse, which accommodates families with furry members.

Check heating/cooling options: Elko's extreme temperature variations require appropriate cabin climate control. "Having the hookups was so nice given how cold it's getting at night," mentioned Katy G., highlighting the importance of adequate heating during colder seasons.

Tips from RVers

Consider park layout: Traditional RV parks with cabins often have specific layouts. "All sites are on pavement but are close together. It's a nice place to stop if traveling through but too much concrete to feel like 'camping'," Sara explains about Iron Horse, noting the developed nature of the property.

Location convenience: Cabin accommodations in Elko provide strategic stopping points. Gary B. appreciated that Iron Horse is "On the edge of town, lots of nice large spaces. Very friendly staff," making it suitable for those passing through on longer journeys.
