Kreis Pond Campground offers free camping for pet owners near Huson, Montana, with seven well-spaced sites surrounding a small pond. Pets must remain on leash throughout the campground area while enjoying the peaceful setting and clean vault toilets. Petty Creek Road Dispersed Camping provides another pet-friendly option with several primitive sites located about 5 minutes off Interstate 90, featuring existing fire rings and level parking areas for vehicles. Both locations welcome tents and smaller RVs, though Kreis Pond requires navigating several miles of dusty, washboard gravel road to access. The sites at Petty Creek tend to feel private with enough trees separating campers that even when multiple sites are occupied, neighbors report barely noticing each other.
Dog owners find several hiking opportunities near both campgrounds, including the Sleeping Woman trail accessible near Kreis Pond, offering a challenging hike with significant elevation gain and spectacular 360-degree views of surrounding mountain ranges. Petty Creek campers can access fishing spots approximately one mile from the camping area. Wildlife sightings are common, with bear prints reported at Kreis Pond, making proper food storage essential when camping with pets. Trails and surrounding forest areas allow for dog exercise, though pets should remain leashed to prevent wildlife encounters. Despite being close to Interstate 90, Petty Creek campsites remain surprisingly quiet with minimal traffic noise. Most visitors report feeling safe and undisturbed while camping with their dogs at both locations.

Nice amenities (mini golf, horse shoes, pool, dog park), close enough to town. Grass at our site.
This is one if the prettiest and cleanest campground we have ever stayed at. The sites are gravel, mostly level and most sites have shad. The pull through sites on the outer edge do not but others inside do. The laundry and bathhouse was very nice and clean. $2.00 per load to wash. There is flowers everywhere and they have a sprinkler system to keep everything pretty so you can’t leave anything out overnight that you don’t want to get wet. They mow each Thursday and are constantly doing upkeep on the grounds. FHU was a plus and made our stay enjoyable. There is a small dog park but it’s mostly in the sun so we chose to enjoy walks. The only downside (if I had to find one) was the train close by that was very squeaky as it went by. But I never heard it during the night.
This is a very well cared for campground. Beautiful flowers, trees, landscaping throughout the park. Very clean and loved. Store has a bit of everything you need. Fenced in dog park. Clean bathrooms and laundry facilities. Very enjoyable stay!
This hike into the lakes is not for the faint of heart, but the most breath taking views of Montana at its finest. There are plenty of Brook trout and huckleberries to eat at each trail and lake. There is also a lot of wild life, including mountain goats, moose, deer, and elk. Please make sure when bringing pets that they know not to chase these animals and always look at fire reports before heading into this area.
I was a bit apprehensive when the sign read, “RV park, casino” (restaurant, motel).....but! This place is nice. Sites are close, so prepare to be friendly. Highway is close by as well, so you will hear some traffic noise. A train occasionally runs slowly across the river. Campground nicley maintained. But, the lawnmower is out there everyday!!! Loud and unneeded. Shower and Laundry available. Nice quiet road to walk pets. And beautiful view of river and mountainside.
Te lake is beautiful and the sites are really close to the lake. Better privacy than is typical. Pets allowed and the store is close.
Private campground. Level sites, stayed in #6 right by office. Sites fairly close together. Nice pet walk area. Showers clean. Full hookups. Solid, clean, well kept place to stay.
Friendly and helpful staff. Clean and spacious restrooms and showers. Plenty of green space for pets. The only downside was the freeway noise.
Great location just off the highway. Stayed here for one night on our way to Missoula. River located just down a cliff along the campsite. When we were here is was roaring and you would probably want to be careful with kids and pets. Very quite with little to no traffic in the campground as well as the highway during our stay. Some spots were a little muddy due to rain for the past couple days. Didn't use the restrooms while we were here so unsure how clean those were but a couple people stopped by on the drive to use them. Would definitly stay here again.

Fishing access points: About one mile from Petty Creek Road Dispersed Camping, visitors can access fishing spots along the nearby waterways. "Great spot, easy access for our van. Flat parking and quiet. Fishing in the river available down the street about a mile away," notes Christi M.
Hiking nearby mountains: The Sleeping Woman trail offers significant elevation gain near Huson. "Lots to do in Missoula and surrounding areas. I recommend heading out to gem mountain for some Montana sapphire hunting. Fun day trip, and was great for the kids," suggests Travis B. from Jim & Mary's RV Park.
Wildlife viewing: The forests around Huson provide habitat for various wildlife. "Saw some deer, and lots of bugs," notes sophia M. about Petty Creek Road, while other campers report seeing evidence of larger animals.
Privacy between sites: At Petty Creek Road Dispersed Camping, the natural layout creates separation. "Multiple spots to choose from. We pulled in about 7pm and we were the only ones there. Someone else pulled in around 9 but the sites were separated by enough trees we could barely tell they were there," shares Sarah S.
Flat, accessible parking: Many campsites feature level ground suitable for various camping setups. "Great little spot to hold over for the night. The GPS coordinates listed on the map are spot on, and the turn-off comes up quickly. There look to be 4 spots," explains SpentBrassOffroad B.
Clean facilities: At Lolo Creek Campground, visitors appreciate the maintained amenities. "The facilities are well-maintained and very clean. The campground store is the best stock store of all the KOA's that I stayed in on this trip," notes one reviewer about campground infrastructure in the region.
Access road conditions: Reaching some camping areas requires navigating challenging roads. "Be prepared for several miles of dusty, gravel, washboard road," warns Tom N. about access to Kreis Pond.
Limited services: Most dispersed sites lack basic amenities. "Limited availability. I think about 6 sites total," notes Kayla D. about Big Pine Campground, adding "Nice sites, long gravel road to get to. Next to the river. Has bathrooms but down the road a bit."

Seasonal considerations: Weather varies significantly throughout the year. "Minimal road noise but not too far off the road, unfrequented part of the road, able to turn around and back up a teardrop without problems. Creek is dried up, but has a few different sites with rock fire pits," reports J E. about springtime conditions.
RV size limitations: Many dispersed sites accommodate only smaller rigs. "We have a 27 foot RV towed with a truck that has a 8ft bed. Initially we missed the turn and had nowhere to turn around since this is on the side of a mountain," shares Jacob R. about navigating to Petty Creek Road.
Alternative RV options: For those seeking more amenities, established campgrounds provide more services. "Living in the area we have little use for a campground in Missoula, but we used this one and found it to be very nice, very clean and the people were very friendly," notes Suzanne B. about Missoula KOA Holiday.
Overnight convenience: Some areas work well for brief stays during travel. "Great spot. Reasonable and discounts accepted. Not far off of the highway," mentions a camper about accessibility and value when traveling through the region.
