Best RV Parks & Resorts near Alberton, MT

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

River Edge Resort in Alberton offers 50-amp and 30-amp electric hookups with water and sewer connections for RVs throughout the year. Sites are positioned close together with views of the Clark Fork River, though highway and railroad noise may be noticeable. Located approximately 30 miles west of Missoula, this established park provides big-rig friendly pull-through sites with picnic tables and allows fires. Nearby Turah RV Park in Clinton features 26 sites with full hookups including 50-amp service, while Jim & Mary's RV Park north of Missoula maintains 74 sites with water, sewer, and electric connections but prohibits fires. Granite Peak RV Resort operates seasonally from May through October with 110 RV sites. "Our site was rather short, it fit our 174BH, but there was not much room to spare and we had to back it all the way in. The sites are pretty close, so even with our small camper, when we put our awning out, it was only about 4 ft from the next camper."

Driving an RV between these parks requires attention to mountain roads and potential navigation challenges. Most parks near Alberton provide sanitary dump stations, though Jim & Mary's does not offer this service on-site. Cell service varies throughout the region, with parks closer to Missoula generally reporting better connectivity. A recent review noted, "Sites were fairly level and were arranged so it wasn't hard to get backed in at all." Many parks in the area accommodate pets, though specific rules may apply. Several RV parks around Missoula remain open year-round, while others like Granite Peak RV Resort operate seasonally. Advance reservations are recommended during summer months and fall color seasons when tourism peaks. Campground amenities vary considerably, with some parks offering extensive facilities including showers, laundry, and on-site stores, while others provide more basic services.

Informal Dispersed Campsite at Fish Creek Properties Montana State Park

Big Spot adjacent to the road, Good if in a pinch

Sign says camping permitted to 14 days in a 30 day period. Adjacent to dirt road with a few trees in between. Not the most private but a good option if you need a place for the night if the nearby campsite is full. No amenities. T-mobile cell service is good here.

River access just at the entry of the turn in. Could easily pull a big rig in but may have a hard time turning it around as there is not a pull through. There is a concrete slab that is level and about 12'x25' in size  which could be good for a trailer or van without having to do much for leveling. Many vehicles/tents could fit here in the dirt area but would likely be comfortable for a single group rather than multiple camp groups.

    Granite Peak RV Resort

    Surrounded by mountains

If the smoke from summer wildfires were not so thick, you could see the beautiful long range, multi tiered mountains. The park is well maintained. I love the fact that they have a puttputt on the grounds. Very family friendly. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the sited are not level. All, but the premium sites (concrete pads) have a slope. Jack's were fully extended and some wheels off the ground. Pulling up on blocks was no problem. Not a ton of shade at sited. I had 5 bars of 5G AT&T. Wifi repeaters were throughout the park. Would definitely recommend.

    Lolo Hot Springs Campground

Lo Lo Hot Springs is Hot!

Very nice campground across Hwy. 12 in Montana. Campground is ill defined so it feels more like camping out in the woods. Fire pits with picnic tables. 30 amp electric with water. Dump station on site. $38.50 per night or $25.50 with senior discount. Cabins are available and there is numerous tent sites. Pretty nice campground. Across the highway is Lo Lo Hot Springs. Very rustic with a $8.00 entry fee. Inside group tub and outside pool. There is a lodge and bar also on site. We spent 5 days in our 5th wheel at LoLo.

    Granite Peak RV Resort

    Fine For a Stop-off Night

Definitely not a spot that caters to our normal priorities as it's more of a family hangout or long term place, as expected being an RV park. But it worked well as a stop-off spot for laundry, showers, electric recharge, and water fill before continuing on our way the next morning. We were worried it'd be loud being so close to the freeway, but surprisingly couldn't hear it at all.

Facilities: Laundry, showers that feel like home more than any other we've been to, mini-golf, playground, convenience store

Cell Service: As expected plenty of service being so close to Missoula

Starlink: All sites are open to the sky

Solar: All sites are open to the sky

    Placid Lake State Park Campground

    Beautiful Quiet Campground

This was a wonderful stopover on a road trip. Beautiful lake, rich forest area. Camping spots were nicely spread out, all paved. Ours, number 27 was a pull through. Easy access, a clean spacious vault toilet very close by. Restrooms with showers and flush toilets were a short distance away. THERE ARE NO SEWER HOOKUPS. However at Seeley Lake, about four miles away there is a dump station.

Excellent cell service for Verizon and T-Mobile.

Reserve ahead to be sure, 18$ plus 10$ internet fee. Or walk up first come first served for $18. And with electric hookups!

    Great campground.

    Nugget RV Resort

    We Gave Nugget a Try

We decided to stay here because we’ve seen this campground(CG) featured the last five year’s we’ve been on the road by CG review websites, travel forums, and big-name RV bloggers. So we thought we’d give Nugget a try. We followed our RV GPS to the CG that is near I-90, but far enough away that you don’t hear highway noise. There was another camper checking in when we arrived, but check-in was fairly quick and thorough. There was a sign about being a Good Sam Member and we had to ask to get the discount as that option was not available for the online reservation. We then had a very friendly escort to pull through site 63 with FHUs, which is supposedly a premium site. This gravel site has a little grass yard with a picnic table. The site is across from a community fire pit and couple of their little trail heads. When we were there in July, there was a fire ban so not having a site fire pit was no big deal. The utilities are nicely placed in the middle of the pad. Water pressure is good at about 50 psi. We got 2 to 3 bars on Verizon. As there are a lot of mature pine trees in this CG, satellite is iffy. Our campsite was at the north end of the CG facing the woods, so we used our Verizon MiFi versus Starlink. We probably could have gotten the Starlink to work if we put the antenna on our roof, but as we were only here for three nights, we didn’t try. There’s a nice trail system around the CG to walk with your kids and it is dog friendly. They offer a lot of amenities of which laundry was one that we did use. There’s a nice 9-hole golf course just down the road. They used to let veterans golf for free on Wednesdays, but now charges vets only$5. The CG also had a food truck one evening that was convenient. We wanted to see what all the hype was about and we got the chance. This CG has a lot to offer families or campers who desire a lot of comforts. Overall, its a nice and well run CG, but we are not compelled to repeat with all the other options in the area.

    Whitefish-Kalispell North KOA

    Family friendly, not really “camping”

If you’re looking for family friendly, this is your spot. Lots of kids activities. Free breakfast. Washrooms, showers and laundry facility available. Scenically, it’s not very pretty. Sites are very close together with little privacy. Our spot was so small we couldn’t fit our tent, picnic table and fire pit in it. We had to park somewhere else, and move the picnic table our. If you prefer exploring nature and quiet, this isn’t the park for you.

    Chief Looking Glass Campground

    Solid Place To Stay

I rolled in mid-afternoon and was able to find a great spot to camp for a couple of days.  The sites were well dispersed and clean with picnic tables and fire pits available.

AT&T phone service was available and at good speeds.  I chose to stay the extra day and was able to work remotely from the campground with my hotspot.

$18/night for out of state travelers with no hookups was a bit steep.

Good site and will be back!

    Charles Waters Campground

    Quiet camping in the Bitterroots.

Nice little campground in the Bitterroot Valley. It seemed that there were as many dogs as people in the campground. Sites varied in size and shape and shade. I like the sites on the far side of the loop as they are closer to the creek and away from the dusty road. Water at the spigots was good, but I was a bit concerned that they were placed so close to the vault toilets. There are some pull through sites as well as back in, but since it’s first come, it’s luck of the draw in what you get. I got there around 2 on a Sunday and had 3 sites to pick from. All of the sites were full by 4pm. There are some nice hiking and horseback riding trails across the road, and there is a forest road that goes all the way to the top of the mountains with picnic tables to watch the sunset or sunrise (when the smoke doesn’t cloud the view).

Guide to Alberton

Camping options near Alberton, Montana include established RV parks and tent sites along the Clark Fork River at elevations between 3,000-3,500 feet. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-90°F during the day with cooler nights in the 40-50°F range. Campers often report strong cell service closer to Missoula, but connectivity becomes sporadic west of Alberton where terrain affects signal quality.

What to do

River activities: Clark Fork access Sites at River Edge Resort provide direct river access for fishing, swimming and paddling. "Enjoyed the river view and ate dinner at the restaurant. Would stay here again. Small campground maybe 12 spots," notes a camper who visited in May.

Hot springs soaking: 106° mineral baths The Lolo Hot Springs Campground offers camping across from natural hot springs facilities with indoor and outdoor pools. A recent visitor reports, "Water and electricity hook up only. Bring a portable RV waste tank to the pump out station. Or walk to the bathroom/showers. Restaurant/Bar/hot Springs pool is across the road."

Hiking: Creek-side trails Multiple forest service trails connect to camping areas in the region. A reviewer at Yellowrock Campground noted, "There is access to the creek that runs along the campground. The sites/grounds, bathhouse and staff are so nice that I give the campground a five even though there are some drawbacks."

What campers like

Clean bathrooms: Full facilities Most parks maintain well-kept shower facilities. One visitor to Jim & Mary's RV Park described, "The laundry and bathhouse was very nice and clean. $2.00 per load to wash. There is flowers everywhere and they have a sprinkler system to keep everything pretty."

Family amenities: Activities on-site Granite Peak RV Resort includes recreation options for all ages. A camper shared, "Facilities: Laundry, showers that feel like home more than any other we've been to, mini-golf, playground, convenience store." Another added, "Great amenities, well taken care of, individually owned. -WiFi -hook ups -small&big sites -clean showers -shop with stickers -gym -mini golf."

Riverside settings: Natural environments Many campers appreciate creek and river access. At Lolo Hot Springs, a reviewer mentioned, "This is a nice campsite! The hot springs are right across the highway. The bathrooms have running water and a portable heater in the colder months. Worth staying for proximity to the springs more than anything."

What you should know

Weather considerations: Seasonal operations Several campgrounds operate seasonally due to mountain weather conditions. Granite Peak RV Resort runs from May through October, while other parks remain open year-round with varying services in winter months.

Noise factors: Highway and trains Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby transportation. A Jim & Mary's RV Park visitor noted, "The only downside (if I had to find one) was the train close by that was very squeaky as it went by. But I never heard it during the night."

Reservation needs: Plan ahead Summer and fall color seasons require advance planning. The Missoula KOA Holiday fills quickly during peak times, with one reviewer saying, "We stayed one quick night in the 'Tent Village' where each site gets a pie shaped section of an octogon. Everything was fine."

Tips for camping with families

Recreation options: On-site activities Family-friendly campgrounds offer additional entertainment. A visitor at Missoula KOA shared, "This place is on my shortlist for favorites for my week long getaway with my daughter who is 5... From the bike rental to the playground, putt putt golf, swimming pool (2 Adult hot tubs - very clean)."

Pet policies: Check restrictions Different rv parks near Alberton implement varying pet rules. A camper at River Edge Resort mentioned, "The staff were friendly at check-in and even had a special treat for my pups to enjoy and complementary doggy bags."

Campfire regulations: Verify before arrival Fire policies vary significantly between parks. Yellowrock Campground has specific regulations as one camper explained: "They don't allow fires unless it's in their fire ring and only a few camp sites have fire rings. We asked if we could use our fire pit that we brought (solo stove) and they said no."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Size considerations RV sites vary in dimensions and layout. At Nugget RV Resort, a visitor observed, "Close placement so no privacy for larger RVs. Some spots for smaller campers/tenters only needing water/electric hookups are more private."

Hookup variations: Specific connections RV parks around Alberton offer different hookup configurations. One camper at Diamond S RV Park noted, "Level sites, stayed in #6 right by office. Sites fairly close together. Nice pet walk area. Showers clean. Full hookups. Solid, clean, well kept place to stay."

Laundry access: Limited facilities Laundry options can be restricted. A Yellowrock Campground guest reported, "They have a washing machine. But it only washes in cold. And they don't have a dryer," while another mentioned, "Free cold washer and clothes line are available."
