Cabin accommodations near Edgerton range from basic structures to fully-equipped units with modern amenities. Basswood Country RV Resort offers cabin rentals with electric hookups, providing comfortable shelter with varying levels of furnishings. The cabins at Watkins Mill State Park Campground feature picnic tables and fire rings, allowing for outdoor cooking and dining. "The facilities were clean, but older. Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. According to one camper at Watkins Mill, "We arrived about 15 minutes after the office closed. One of the staff members went back inside to check us in and then led us to our camp site before leaving to go home." Pet policies vary by location, with most allowing pets in designated cabins for an additional fee.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Cooking facilities vary significantly between properties - some cabins include kitchenettes while others provide only outdoor fire pits with grill grates. The camp store at Basswood sells essential items, and as one visitor mentioned, they have "a great little store with alcohol for the adults; ice cream treats, which we enjoy after a swim; and nearly any key item you might have forgotten to pack." Pony Express RV and Worlds of Fun Village both maintain on-site markets where basic provisions can be purchased. For more extensive grocery needs, the nearby towns offer additional shopping options. Cabins at Atchison State Fishing Lake provide more primitive accommodations without electricity or running water, appealing to those seeking a more rustic log cabin experience.

It does cost about $25 a day, but you have electricity, and shade, and it is always quiet here. The park rangers are always cleaning or doing rounds to make sure everything is okay. Bathrooms have AC and are cleaned with disinfectant daily. Very clean campground and has a playground. Pet friendly.

    Watkins Mill State Park Campground

    Peaceful

We stayed Sunday-Wednesday and it was very peaceful. Sites are not right on top of each other and it looks like they all have a fire pit and picnic table. There are only a handful of paved spots and you will need leveling blocks on the gravel. Showers and bathrooms are clean and the hosts are very nice. New asphalt roads throughout the park; nice for walking, biking, etc. Be sure to get biscuits & gravy at “The General Store” just down the road from the park entrance.

    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

Crammed in a tent camping field...

Let's Share COVID and a campfire song. When we booked a tent site in the KOA we didn't expect much but assumed it would work for the night while driving across the USA.  Upon arrival we were a little put off by being stuck with several other tents in a field and noticed we were expected to share our fire ring with the tent next door... this was not ok with us and we left promptly and snagged a nice spot in the nearby Blue Springs Recreation Area. Traveling during summer 2020 has been interesting and to expect strangers to share a fire ring and be crammed very close during a pandemic is not only careless but not fun. UGH

    Basswood Country RV Resort

A great place to take the kids/grandkids

We have been camping at Basswood for several years, first with our children and now with our grandchildren. Basswood provides amenities that are great for entertaining children, includinga swimming pool and splash park, two playgrounds, a basketball goal, and fishing. Every weekend there are organized activities such as arts and crafts, fishing contests, duck races and frozen t-shirt contests in the pool, and a Saturday evening outdoor movie. There is a great little store with alcohol for the adults; ice cream treats, which we enjoy after a swim; and nearly any key item you might have forgotten to pack. Most roads throughout the campground are paved, and the campground is generally well-maintained. We appreciate the full-service RV spots, but there are very nice bathroom facilities, including showers, in two locations in the park.

    Worlds of Fun Village

    Novel Campground in Kansas City

This was an interesting stay at the Worlds of Fun campground. Located on the property there are RV sites and rental cabins. All RV sites were concrete with 50/30/20 amp, water and sewer. Back-in sites on rows 1 and 3 and pull through sites on row 2.

The theme park offered discounted tickets when staying at the campground and parking for the parks was included. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are internally connected, making it easy to walk between the two.

There is a pool, hot tub, laundry and clean bathrooms with showers. The campground did attempt to improve privacy with strategically placed trees and shrubs.

Row 1 (sites 1-20) is along a busy highway with semi truck noise 24 hours a day. I recommend either paying more for the pull-through (further from the road) or the back in sites 69-82 in row 3.

Security was disappointing, as there was no gate to the campground, nor a gate around it. So our campsite (site 2) that backed up to the road was 10 feet off the public sidewalk. Reviews of this campsite on other websites mentioned some petty theft, so we kept our outdoor compartments locked (nothing was stolen).

    Lake Paradise Resort

    A gem being polished!

We had a fun and relaxing time and loved the woodsy feel to it. We stayed here for a weekend in July 2020 and had a great time!  It is under new ownership and they are working to remodel and renovate all areas. I got to meet one of the owners and one of the owner's kids who works there and they were very nice and very helpful.  In fact, all staff I had contact with were! We had a nice full hookup RV site with a very woodsy feel.  Well shaded, grass and trees, view of water and nice space around us. Gravel site with picnic table and fire ring.  The pool is renovated and very nice. It is very large, zero entry, up to mostly around 5 ft deep with a small area that was 9ft; there is a children's area with a sprinkler. Roads throughout campground are gravel, not paved, if that makes a difference with kids bringing scooters or bikes.  We drove around to see the rest of the campground and saw lots of sites that I'd like to camp in when we come back. The cabins look nice, too. Waved at people sitting in front of them, but did not see inside them.  I'm looking forward to go here again and excited to see the updates they make over the next year!

Note: Included in your camp fee you get 2 free daily passes per night of camping to the pool and a discounted rate for any other swimmers; so for our family with 4 we had the free passes go to the parents and paid $3 each for the kids to swim & we did this two days.  As long as you have the wrist band on you can come and go all day to the pool.

Cons: quite a bit of poison oak around the fish cleaning area, shade at the pool is at a minimum, my phone (AT&T) could not get service there.

    Basswood Country RV Resort

    Tidy and well run park

This park is convient to I-29 but far enough off the highway to be quiet and peaceful. Tent sites, full hookups as well as rooms and cabins are available. As a point of interest, this used to be a favorite fishing spot of President Harry S. Truman, check out the Mother in Law cabin—built at his request.

    Watkins Mill State Park Campground

    Great Camping

Stayed here for three nights. All spots have plenty of shade when we walked around. Shower house and bathrooms were clean and nice. Lots of things to do such as boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. Fire pits were even nice with an attached grill grate.

Guide to Edgerton

Cabin camping near Edgerton, Missouri offers overnight options within a 45-minute drive radius. The area sits at approximately 850 feet elevation with a humid continental climate featuring hot summers and cold winters. Seasonal variations significantly impact cabin availability, with most properties requiring advance reservations during summer months and offering reduced rates from November through March.

What to do

Fishing at multiple lakes: Basswood Country RV Resort provides fishing opportunities in five small lakes where visitors don't need a license. "You could fish in the lakes and didn't even need a license. We watched kids get excited as they caught fish after fish," notes Shannon G. about her experience at Basswood Country RV Resort.

Biking on paved trails: Lewis and Clark State Park Campground offers paved roads suitable for family cycling. "The roads to, around, and within the campground are paved and great for a family walk or bike-riding," mentions a visitor to Lewis and Clark State Park Campground.

Historic site exploration: Some cabins come with historical significance, such as the Mother in Law cabin at Basswood. "As a point of interest, this used to be a favorite fishing spot of President Harry S. Truman, check out the Mother in Law cabin—built at his request," shares Sara E. about the historical connection at Basswood Country RV Resort.

What campers like

Swimming options: Most cabin properties offer water recreation during summer months. "There was a swimming pool and splash park, two playgrounds, a basketball goal, and fishing," states Tori G. about the amenities at Basswood Country RV Resort.

Themed weekends with activities: Several campgrounds organize regular events for cabin guests. "Every weekend there are organized activities such as arts and crafts, fishing contests, duck races and frozen t-shirt contests in the pool, and a Saturday evening outdoor movie," notes Robin R. about family programming.

Proximity to amusement parks: Some cabin locations offer direct access to entertainment venues. "Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are internally connected, making it easy to walk between the two," explains John L. about staying at Worlds of Fun Village.

What you should know

Seasonal operation limitations: Not all cabin facilities operate year-round. "The camp store at Worlds of Fun is open seasonally from March 1 through October 30," mentions a camper regarding the limited operational season.

Airport noise at some locations: Certain cabins experience overhead flight patterns. "The campground is on the final approach for the airport, so you get to see a lot planes flying overhead, which you don't even notice cause they are quieter than they used to be be, and I think they shut down flights around 10pm," explains Brian A. about the aircraft situation at Basswood.

Train noise considerations: Some cabins experience railroad disruptions. "There was a train that comes by every couple of hours," notes Douglas S. about his stay at Kansas City West-Lawrence KOA.

Long-term resident sections: Some cabin areas have permanent residents. "There is a large section of long term renters that you must drive through to get to the short term sites. This gave the impression that this was less a vacation park and more of a trailer park," explains Drew S. about the layout at Basswood.

Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: Select cabins near children's facilities for convenience. "Basswood provides amenities that are great for entertaining children, including a swimming pool and splash park, two playgrounds, a basketball goal, and fishing," shares a parent about their stay.

Weekend activity planning: Schedule around organized events for maximum value. "This campground is a must for anyone with children. Awesome sites with full hook ups. They have several ponds you can fish from. My kids love that. Nice play area for kids as well as themed weekends with lots of activities planned that kids can do," recommends Robin R. about family accommodations.

Protected swimming areas: Choose properties with monitored water facilities. "The pool and clubhouse are well kept so are the bathrooms and laundry room," notes a visitor to Worlds of Fun Village.

Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives: Many RV parks offer cabin rentals when traveling without your rig. "AOK Campground & RV Park has cabin rentals with full utility connections as an alternative to bringing your own accommodations," explains a frequent visitor to AOK Campground.

Check-in timing considerations: Plan arrival during office hours when possible. "We arrived about 15 minutes after the office closed. One of the staff members went back inside to check us in and then led us to our camp site before leaving to go home," shares a visitor about staff accommodation at Watkins Mill State Park Campground.

Site selection strategy: Request specific cabin locations based on noise concerns. "Row 1 (sites 1-20) is along a busy highway with semi truck noise 24 hours a day. I recommend either paying more for the pull-through (further from the road) or the back in sites 69-82 in row 3," advises John L. about location selection at Worlds of Fun Village.
