    Hickory Ridge Campground

    Nice Campground, Convenient Location

We stayed only one night here while passing through. Campground’s new owner is very kind and friendly. He escorted us to our site which was tucked away under some nice trees.

Though campground is close to interstate, noise was minimal (I think because of the trees).

Pretty flowers throughout campground. Bathrooms with a shower and laundry room. Salt water pool, nice grassy area. Some sites had fire pits and picnic tables but not all.

    Would definitely stay here again.

    Daniel Boone Conservation Area

Quiet and out of the way

There are 10 or so primitive tent sites and an area that will accommodate about a dozen RV’s. There are no services here and no hook ups, but it’s free. The primitive tent sites are spread out along the main road through the conservation area, which means that in the daytime you will get road noise and dust, but its pretty quiet at night. Only a couple have picnic tables, but all seemed to have at least a level spot for the tent and a fire ring. I noticed some sites had a bit of trash in the fire rings, probably from day use or partiers. There is no trash service, so plan to pack out your trash. The best site (already taken, too bad) was set on the edge of the woods next to a fishing pond. The campers that were there let me take some pics of their site since it was so pretty. The only downside to that site was its proximity to the RV lot and their generators. There are some nice hiking trails here to explore.

    Camp Takimina

Beautiful quiet campground in Columbia MO!

We stayed at Camp Takimina on our first shakedown trip with our Popup camper.  It was amazing.  It was about 5-10 minutes from I-70, super easy to get to. The camp was quiet, private, and peaceful.  There are no hookups, but water was right next to us near the parking lot, and the picnic tables near the lodge were shaded most of the day.  Portapotties were clean and well stocked.  We brought our dog and two children and the had an absolutely fabulous time!  We hiked a lot in the woods, played in the creek, and had plenty of time and space to figure out our new to us popup camper.  There aren't actual spots for to park in, it is just a big gravel lot with a couple designated areas for campers if the lot is full (it wasn't full at all).  We reserved Arrow Hill also, which is a huge site right next to the parking lot, so we had a campfire ring to cook on.  Most of the firepits have benches that surround them, which was very handy not to have to move chairs around all the time.  The tent sites were huge- easily would fit multiple tents at each site, and we will absolutely be back to tent camp, and with the popup too!

    Great vacation

Great experience. Access to camping ground was little difficult. It was gravel road but it was very steep hill (very common in this area). Campground had private lake with boat rentals, mini golf pool. Our site was maybe 30 yards from the water.

    Daniel Boone Conservation Area

    Prívate, pretty, comfortable

I stayed here in June on a Tuesday night. The main pull-in parking area was completely empty. Has a ton of spots, most with their own fire ring. Some have some shade. There were also other more private pull-in spots where I saw only 2 other vehicles. There’s a little pond with wildlife like rabbits and frogs. You get there after about 5 miles on a well maintained, wide gravel road. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay!

Guide to Ashland

Cabins near Ashland, Missouri range from rustic to fully-equipped accommodations within a 30-mile radius. The region features rolling hills with elevations between 500-850 feet and experiences all four seasons distinctly, with summer temperatures averaging 75-90°F. Winter cabin rentals require additional planning as some rural access roads may be difficult to navigate during ice or snow conditions.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Cedar Creek Resort & RV Park, guests can fish directly from cabin areas. "The fishing was great, amenities were fantastic, and the hosts were amazing. Free rentals on pontoon boats, kayaks, and paddle boats," notes Jason R., highlighting the resort's water recreation options.

Private island camping: For a unique experience, Cross Creek RV Park offers island tent sites alongside their cabin rentals. "You can fish right off the bank of your own private island within minutes of waking up," explains Barrett C., who appreciated having a restroom facility directly on the island.

Hiking trails: The conservation areas surrounding several cabin rentals provide extensive trail systems. "There's some stocked ponds to fish in and trails to explore. We rode the Katy Trail which is only 3.5 miles down the hill from here," mentions Erik R. about his stay at Daniel Boone Conservation Area.

What campers like

Swimming pools: Several cabin rental properties include pool access. "The top had 2 pools, shower house, and restroom all new and very NICE! The lower pools are big with scenic views of the boats and lake front," writes Fred R. about Coconuts RV Resort.

Family gathering spaces: Cabin rentals often accommodate large groups. "We had family from Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri, and everyone raved how this was their new favorite spot," shares a Cedar Creek Resort visitor who brought over 40 family members.

Recreational amenities: Many cabin properties offer additional activities. "Kids love the mini golf, shuffleboard, and basketball. Huge private lake great for fishing and watching duck families swim by," reports Keidra P. from her Cross Creek RV Park stay.

What you should know

Road conditions: Access roads to some properties require careful navigation. "The road to get in and out of this place is absolutely ridiculous. You can try to go 1mph to avoid potholes or washed out area just to hit the next pothole," warns Sean about Cross Creek RV Park.

Bathroom facilities: Cabin amenity levels vary significantly between properties. At Hickory Ridge Campground, one guest noted: "One was disgusting in the back of the campground. The other one had broken handle on women bathroom so women had to shower in the mens."

Reservation requirements: Most cabins require advance booking, especially during peak season. Some properties use contactless check-in systems, as George L. experienced: "Contactless checkin is a bit confusing from map provided."

Tips for camping with families

Pack appropriate bedding: Many cabin rentals require guests to bring their own linens. "Guests must bring their own bedding. There are showers, restrooms and a kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave," explains Joyce R. about Turner Katy Trail Shelter.

Check safety measures: Some properties have limited supervision of recreational activities. "Only issue was the kids being allowed on golf carts all day and late into the night flying all over both directions. Kids on bikes all night with no lights on bikes or grounds," notes Fred R.

Consider quiet locations: For families seeking tranquility, Camp Takimina provides a peaceful setting. "The camp was quiet, private, and peaceful. We brought our dog and two children and they had an absolutely fabulous time! We hiked a lot in the woods, played in the creek," shares Kari W.

Tips from RVers

Site layout concerns: Many cabin rental areas share space with RV sites. "Sites are pretty level and WiFi is good. There are a lot of long term users. Bathhouses are pretty new and adequate but a pretty long walk from the transit sites," observes George L.

Seasonal considerations: Several cabin rental facilities operate seasonally. Cross Creek RV Park operates from April 15 to November 1, requiring winter travelers to confirm availability at other properties.

Dust management: Cabins accessed via gravel roads may experience dust issues. "The only thing I didn't love was the gravel road all the way in. Our truck and camper was covered with gravel dust," notes Amy E. about her Cedar Creek Resort visit.
