Quiet spot on the water - beware the wild boar

This was a nice spot as other reviews mentioned there’s one or two actually particular spots when you first pull in on the right that are very good views of the water. I didn’t see numbering for the spots, but you can see them cause there’s no trees blocking the view. There were about 10 spots total, but there’s also a parking lot at the end of the circle for the boat launch that I’m sure if it was in a pinch nobody would bother you if you needed to park in for the overnight. I used it when it was raining, and I was getting used to the lay of the land as well because some of the spots did flood a little bit.

A word of warning for the spot there are currently a lot of wild boar activity and you can see where they have been rooting around the camp areas so I was very cautious after sunset walking my dogs, etc. Highly recommend bear spray.

There is a vault toilet it wasn’t the cleanest. The locals were friendly and I had the spot to myself the whole weekend. A couple people came in and out in the afternoons and early evenings to watch the sunset, but besides that it was quiet.

    Pretty area

It is an older campground. Not very well suited for big rigs. No wading or swimming dt alligators. Many sites are on the water. Sadly, the electric box didn’t work at my first site 10. I moved to 38, but I had trouble finding it. I needed help.

Attention: Campground closed without further notice.

We chose this campground to stay for 1-2 nights while traveling to New Orleans. We reviewed all available information beforehand: Google reviews, Wikicamps, The Dyrt, and the website... nowhere did it mention that the campground was closed. After a 11-hour drive, we arrived at 8 PM only to find the campground closed. Very, very frustrating...

    Great family weekend

Our family of 5 (young kids) stayed for the weekend. A four day weekend would have been perfect. Our site was easy to get into and relatively easy to level. Full hookups. Activities included swimming, splash pad, hiking, disk golf, fishing, kayak rentals, and playgrounds. They are about to close the park for the season to renovate. All the pads are about to be concrete and I think they are fixing some of the space issues(some spots are currently tight to get into). We will be back next year.

Clean, quiet, and full of natural beauty

I tent-camped at site 15, located at the very end of the campground. Site 15 and 16 are on a peninsula. They are the quietest and most isolated sites at Service Campground. Site 16 has a bit more space and is closer to the parking spots. Site 15 has a small pathway leading down to the water for easy fishing. The site already had firewood, but the hosts pointed out a pile near the bathhouse that campers were free to take. The sun rises right in front of both spots and disappears behind trees by 3pm. The mosquitos weren't as bad as I suspected, but the other creepy critters come out in numbers to explore after sunset. That's to be expected being surrounded by water. Owning a boat would be a major plus here! It was a great trip and I'd definitely return!

    Good place to stay

We were looking for a place to overnight. We found this place on the dirt. Full hookups, swimming pool, bath house, dog park, fishing lake, and oh yes! There is a train caboose on site. No real shade, but no matter. LEVEL CONCRETE PAD!

    Nice, clean place to stay

No shade in this side of the park, but no worries. We needed a place to stay for the night and they had an opening with full hook ups. There’s a swimming pool, dog park, and bath house. Not to mention the level concrete pads!

Kids would love the fact that there’s a train caboose on site. Convenient, super easy to find a spot, and the lady in the office is super sweet.

Beautiful campground on the shore of coffeeville lake

I was quite pleased with our stay here. Camped in spot #8 directly across from the bathhouse and playground. The kids didn't want to leave and asked to come back. A few families and many fishermen filled the campground. Everything was clean with very minimal trash that we helped to pick up. Camp hosts were friendly and efficient.

Beautiful and well kept campground with great views

Hosts are friendly and helpful. Campground is well maintained and offers good amenities for the price. Bathhouse is clean, well stocked and functional. Campground had a mix of families and fishermen. The tent only sites feel a little sterile compared to other places I've tent camped but the RV sites are nice and shaded. Facilities are wheel chair accessible. Will definitely stay here again

    The Best Campground Staff Ever!!!!

It is very easy to drive your rig in this park. I have read some reviews where people talk about the drive into the part as being horrible. When you leave I 20, you drive down a county road. It is the typical width of a county road. So just slow down and it is no problem. We drive a 44’ fifth wheel with a dually truck. Some sites have concrete(not in the best shape) and some have gravel pads. There are many trees but the park keeps them trim away from the roads. It was great to have shade. There is full hookup pull thru sites along with some back in sites. There are plenty of areas to walk your dogs along with a nice enclosed dog park. There are many activities for children– a large sandbox, pool, a water slide, playground, tether ball and a game room. This park is about 2 miles off I 20. It is very quiet. There are a few long timers but primary people stopping for one night Each night it is full and then empty by noon the next day. We were there for several months and paid$525 for the month. This included electricity. When we originally arrived, our plan was to stay one month to visit family. But due to some health issues with ourselves and our family, we ended up staying for over 6 months. The best part of this park is the staff. Each staff is friendly, welcoming and will do anything possible to make our staff so wonderful. The staff take meticulous care of the park including picking up daily all the cigarette butts that people think they can just leave on the ground. Due to their service, they get a lot of repeat customer visits.

    Beautiful Tombigbee

Our second trip here. We came last April and hammock camped at the same location in #3. This year we have a popup and closer the site with the absolute best views of sunset and sunrise right on the bank of the Tombigbee. The river is much higher than last year due to the recent storms which makes it even more magnificent. Cell phone coverage is still marginal at best but useable for basic data needs. Att is ok, Verizon is marginal, and T-Mobile is emergency calls only.

    Marathon Lake Campground

    Pretty decent and relaxing campground

Our site had a fire ring and grill, it was very relaxing and peaceful but not a whole bunch to do there especially for the kids. They had a designated swimming area which was alright to go do. We rode our bikes around but that got pretty boring fast bc it’s not that big of a campground. Besides that we personally enjoyed it and wouldn’t mind going back again.

    Beautiful spot

The are is quiet and gorgeous. Picnic tables rough at the site. I have a cassette toilet, so the “outhouse “ was a perfect spot to empty. My two little dogs loved it.

    Marathon Lake Campground

    Peaceful

Not a bad place to get away in MISSISSIPPI. Campground host was super nice. Gave us a heads up that we had a tornado warning! Just what we needed during our two day stay.

Campground is definitely not the most maintained when I compared the other national forests I have been through. Everything feels most fun down. Bathrooms are falling apart but there is a shower with hot water if you dare.

It's a cheap place to stop. $13 with an Access pass for electric, water, dump station. Lake view. There is a trail around the lake which is a little under two miles around.

    Very spotty cellphone reception.

Very nice on the river, clean & quiet

Park is specious, nice big level site on asphalt - we didn't need to put blocks at all. Right of the river. The bad: too many bugs, ok we are in the humid south b, on the river, so bugs are to be expected. But, even with insects repellent - they still came, no relief. We had to be inside the RV. Other issue: no trash cans nearby. Ok, so we are fine with 1 trash for several sure. But no, the 1 trash was at the entrance, 300 yards away. More: you can go and swim in the river even when it's 10ft away. You have to go to the day camping , all the way on the other side of the trv parking. Internet for ATT is bad, maybe 1mb/sec download. If it wasn't for the beautiful setting I would give it just 3 stars. But the river is so nice, so 4stars

    Questionable

Can anyone tell me about the primitive camping? My husband and children are planning a camping trip for this weekend over Mother’s Day, we are new to the neshoba county area. I see that fishing has great reviews, but what other amenities are there? Are pets allowed (on leash of course), kids friendly?

Not perfect but the price is right!

For the price(free) it's not too bad. The primitive toilet definitely doesn't feel like home and it seems the litter bugs abound but it's super quiet and peaceful. Campsites right on the rivers bluff. Laying in my hammock I can look out over the water while listening to the sounds of nature. Small boat launch seems pretty active. The trash bins are full and would benefit from being emptied more often. About half a dozen usable primitive sights that seem to be free and first come first served. No employees, attendants, or camp host have been discovered. There seem to be several campsites that are missing amenities. The usable sites have a parking space, gravel tent pad, picnic table, fire ring and lantern hook. None of the water fountains appear functional so there does not seem to be any running water. There is a nice hammock station installed by Troop 44 which is quite nice. Can't wait to see the sunrise over the Tom Bigbee river in the morning.

Very friendly owner. The small sites are perfect for my van. No complaints. Busy for the size, a lot of children and families.
