Best RV Parks & Resorts near Morton, MS

Roosevelt State Park Campground in Morton provides full-hookup RV sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. This established campground offers year-round access with paved roads leading to sites that can accommodate larger RVs and fifth wheels. Nearby, Yogi on the Lake in Pelahatchie features spacious RV sites with 50-amp hookups situated along the lakefront, approximately 15 miles west of Morton. Wendy Oaks RV Resort in Florence, about 30 miles southwest, maintains 38 sites including pull-through options with concrete pads and full hookups for big rigs. "The rv gravel pads were extremely un-level, even after waiting 2 hours, watching them add 7 tractor buckets of gravel the pad was still un-level," noted one visitor at Yogi on the Lake.

Most RV parks in the area require reservations, particularly during peak seasons and weekends. Timberlake Campground and Sunset Marina and RV Park, both located on Ross Barnett Reservoir, provide additional options with concrete pads that prevent flooding during rainy seasons. Pet policies vary by location, with most parks allowing pets on leash. Sanitary dump stations are available at all major RV parks in the region, though some visitors have noted issues with sewer connections. According to one visitor at Sunset Marina, "some sewer hook-ups are 12 inches above ground creating a problem for dumping and drainage." Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, with most parks offering WiFi access, though connection quality can vary depending on site location and park occupancy.

Small Diamond in the Rough Campground

We hit the jackpot with this small diamond in the rough campground right outside of Jackson. If you find yourself passing through Jackson, this is an excellent place to stop. This resort is beautiful and peaceful with the friendliness people around. The owner greets every visitor personally, showing you to your site, and making sure you have everything you need for the best stay possible. I can’t say enough about their hospitality. My only regret is not being able to stay longer! This was our second stop on our roadtrip from Dallas to Disney. Read the entire story at ChampagneOnDeck.com

    Big Creek Water Park

    Great overnight stay

Located between Collins & Laurel MS. Camped here in a camper van while visiting relatives in Laurel. Most sites accommodate big rigs, but there are a few tent sites as well. Popular campground; recommend reservations. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to camp in site 18. Most sites are large with good separation between them. Wooded, but almost no privacy between sites. Quiet, secure. Good folks running it. We'll maintained grounds. The restroom/shower house was clean. There is a laundry room. Beach at lake. Folks fishing at lake. AT&T service okay. T-Mobile weaker.

    LeFleur's Bluff State Park Campground

    Lovely

Found this sweet campground traveling cross country. Quiet, large level concrete pad, 30 & 50 amp, water, dump station, $35 after tax. Even tho it was in town,. It was so quiet you could hear the birds on the pond. Gravel road entrance is decent. Only drawback was the burn ban.

    Sunset Marina and RV Park

    Great Lakefront Campground

First, I'm not sure why there aren't 100 reviews here.  This campground is on the reservoir, super close to Jackson/Madison/Ridgeland, but still has all the camp amenities that make camping fun.

This campground has two sections - long term and camping.  Long term is more like an RV park, but it is nicely separated from the short-term campground which is truly water front.

This campground also has a nice Marina/Camp Store (and coming restaurant), as well as a nice pool and bathhouse for short-term campers.

Also - as this is a marina as well, there is a full-service marina, boat ramps, and parking slips if you need them!

Altogether, would definitely stay here if coming through Jackson, worth the trip.

Guide to Morton

Roosevelt State Park Campground and surrounding RV campgrounds near Morton, Mississippi provide access to a mix of wooded and lakefront sites. Most campgrounds in this region sit at elevations between 300-400 feet above sea level with typical summer highs in the 90s and winter lows in the 30s. Many sites feature Shadow Lake access for fishing, boating, and swimming with concrete pads to prevent flooding during Mississippi's rainy seasons.

What to do

Hiking trails: Roosevelt State Park Campground offers multiple wooded paths marked with paint on trees. "There are trails close by that were nice to walk on," notes one visitor to Roosevelt State Park. The park also connects to nearby nature areas for extended walks.

Water activities: Both swimming and boating options exist at multiple campgrounds. At Timberlake Campground, visitors can enjoy the reservoir waters. One camper shares: "We camped here Sept. 20-22 while we were in town to volunteer at the Sanderson Farms PGA golf tournament. It is located right on the Ross Barnett Reservoir so it is a beautiful area."

Disc golf course: Timberlake Campground features a disc golf course adjacent to the camping area. "There is a park right next to the campgrounds with different things to do such as disc golf and soccer goals," reports one reviewer who enjoyed the activity options.

What campers like

Fishing access: Shadow Lake at Roosevelt State Park offers good fishing opportunities. "Good bass fishing," states one straightforward review, while others mention catching various species without needing licenses at some private lakes.

Waterpark amenities: Yogi on the Lake features water slides and splash areas popular with families. "Very clean! The slides were awesome and the tent camping were good. Would def like to go back once it cools down," shares one camper who visited during summer.

Lakefront sites: Many campers prefer sites directly on the water. As one Roosevelt visitor explained: "This campsite was not crowded at all and really peaceful. I stayed in site 13 which was right on the lake. The view was beautiful. The spot was really large with plenty of room for tents and hammocks."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds have uneven sites that can cause setup problems. At Roosevelt State Park, a camper noted: "Nice park. Best spots are in the 14-17 area flatter that others. Some spots are very narrow and drop off as soon as you leave the pad."

Facility maintenance varies: Movietown RV Park provides basic amenities with varying quality. "Nice campground. Clean place and friendly staff. This is a good stop to stay a night when needed. Not very private and just a camper lot without any nice views, picnic tables, etc," reports one visitor.

Reservation requirements: Most RV campgrounds near Morton, Mississippi require advance booking. At Wendy Oaks RV Resort, a visitor mentioned: "When we called, the host answered right away and we booked the last spot they had for the night. Melanie was very helpful with detailed directions on how to find the campground."

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for children: Wendy Oaks RV Resort offers family-friendly lake experiences. "Such a nice RV Park. We stayed in spot #1 and had a beautiful view of the lake, nice fire pit and picnic table. Our kids and babies loved feeding the ducks and walking around the lake. It was really clean and beautiful," shares one family.

Halloween events: Seasonal activities enhance camping experiences for children. One Yogi on the Lake visitor explained: "We spent a weekend in October here and absolutely loved it. The trick or treating is the best. Start right when you can because there are so many sites offering candy or haunted areas. The spook trail is top tier!"

Wildlife viewing: Many campgrounds offer chances to see local animals. "We stayed on the lakes edge, had visits from geese, ducks, rabbits and squirrels. Beautiful and very clean area," reports a camper who enjoyed the natural setting with their family.

Tips from RVers

Concrete pad availability: Sunset Marina and RV Park offers solid surfaces for RVs. "Paved roads and concrete slabs. This site is geared towards water sports, boating, fishing and duck hunting. We were there during rains in January and having the RV on a concrete slab was a plus—the ground was quite soggy," notes one RVer.

Late arrival options: Some parks accommodate after-hours check-ins. At Movietown RV Park, a visitor shared: "We got in late so we registered at the closed office door by putting our $27 payment in an envelope in the door slot. How convenient! Close to Hwy 55, clean and quiet."

Supply access: Proximity to stores helps RVers restock. "If you need anything, there is a Kroger grocery store right across the street from the campground," mentions a Timberlake Campground visitor, while others note that most RV parks near Morton are within 5-15 minutes of gas stations, restaurants and shopping.
