Affiliated with the casino. Inexpensive with full hookups. Pet friendly and people friendly. Some full timers but a nice place. Transportation to and from casinos provided.
We stayed for 2 nights in site 83, which is on the lake. Kayaking, boating, swimming, and fishing! Beautiful grounds, nice level site. Some sites weren't as pretty. This one has a view of the lake, very spacious site, and lots of shade trees. I don't recommend the bath house, too many spiders!!! Cabins available, but they didn't appear to be in the best of condition. No store. Pets are welcome.

Wildlife viewing: Jackson area parks offer opportunities to observe native Mississippi wildlife safely. At LeFleur's Bluff State Park, "We stayed next to the river and encountered wildlife right away - gators, rabbits, birds. The trails are lovely, easy walks through cypress swamps and dry forest," notes Leslie E. Always maintain safe distances, especially from water areas.
Hiking: Short nature trails wind through several area campgrounds. The Mississippi Petrified Forest provides educational hiking with unique geological features. According to one camper at Mississippi Petrified Forest, "The trails are lovely, easy walks through cypress swamps and dry forest. One way the trail leads to a dam with old structures and great fishing opportunities."
Water recreation: Multiple access points to Ross Barnett Reservoir exist from different campgrounds. Sunset Marina provides boat rentals and fishing access points. As noted by Paul C., "Sunset Marina and RV Park has a nice Marina/Camp Store, as well as a nice pool and bathhouse for short-term campers. Also - as this is a marina as well, there is a full-service marina, boat ramps, and parking slips if you need them!"
Quiet environment: Despite urban proximity, many campgrounds maintain peaceful settings. A camper at Wendy Oaks RV Resort shares, "We stopped here on our way down to Florida. Beautiful views, lots of wildlife, super helpful manager, good Wifi, and full hookups. We liked walking by the pond and watching all the birds."
Clean facilities: Several campgrounds maintain high standards for shared spaces. Brad G. noted at Timberlake Campground, "I was very impressed with the amenities such as the laundry room, pool and bath house. The bath house was very clean and has private showers. The staff was very helpful."
Access to urban amenities: The contrast between natural settings and nearby conveniences appeals to many campers. According to one visitor at Roosevelt State Park, "Lovely park with plenty to do. swimming (in the lake for free or swimming pool $ plus a water slide) full hookup. Shady level pads. pet friendly. we really enjoyed a nice weekend."
Seasonal considerations: Summer heat requires preparation for pet-friendly camping. Many Madison area campgrounds offer shaded sites for relief from direct sun. At Roosevelt State Park Campground, "Nice park. Best spots are in the 14-17 area flatter than others. Some spots are very narrow and drop off as soon as you leave the pad. Spots in the 'older' area seem more spaced out," shares Grant C.
Flood considerations: Low-lying areas near water can experience flooding during heavy rain periods. Concrete pads help mitigate mud issues. Den O. noted at Sunset Marina, "We were there during rains in January and having the RV on a concrete slab was a plus— the ground was quite soggy. Only problem is that some sewer hook-ups are 12" above ground creating a problem for dumping and drainage."
Insect preparation: Warm months bring increased insect activity, especially near water. One camper at LeFleur's Bluff reports, "There are gnats...and more gnats...and more gnats so be prepared for that. We got to see alligators and a beaver though while there. It's a very fun park in the middle of town."
Educational opportunities: Museums near certain campgrounds offer family learning activities. "One fork leads you to the museum of natural science! My children loved that!" shares a camper about LeFleur's Bluff State Park.
Swimming options: Multiple parks offer swimming in either pools or natural settings. A Wendy Oaks visitor noted, "Our kids and babies loved feeding the ducks and walking around the lake. It was really clean and beautiful. Staff was super helpful and friendly. My only wish was that there was a playground for our kids but they said they have one ordered for this year."
Safety considerations: Wildlife viewing requires adult supervision. A parent camping at Wendy Oaks RV Resort shared, "Beautiful views, lots of wildlife, super helpful manager, good Wifi, and full hookups. We liked walking by the pond and watching all the birds, as well as swinging on the bench swing."
Leveling challenges: Some sites require additional equipment for proper leveling. A camper at Roosevelt State Park mentioned, "Some spots are very narrow and drop off as soon as you leave the pad. Spots in the 'older' area seem more spaced out."
Hookup placement: Certain campgrounds have unusual sewer hookup configurations. Den O. shared about Sunset Marina, "Only problem is that some sewer hook-ups are 12" above ground creating a problem for dumping and drainage."
Overnight convenience: Several options cater specifically to travelers needing single night accommodations. At Movietown RV Park, "We got in late so we registered at the closed office door by putting our $27 payment in an envelope in the door slot. How convenient! Close to Hwy 55, clean and quiet."
