      Angola/Hogback Lake KOA Holiday

      Nice campground

I stayed at this place when it was B&B and it is now a KOA. Several new sites were added and the park appears to be much cleaner. The restrooms are nice and the camp personnel are friendly. There is a dog park for walking the dog but with so much driveway I just walk the dog around the park. They have several dog bag stations around the park to make clean up easy. There are 3 playgrounds and boat area on the lake. I believe you can rent boats to fish even though I never have. I will definitely stay here again.

      Holiday RV Campground

      Large RV Park

Nice Park Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot(22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud. Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

      Harrison Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

      Cold Brook County Park

      Nice little county park!

29 campsites pretty close together with old growth trees interspersed around the campground. Fishing pier and boating, playground area, and beach. No longer has primitive camping. Some hiking trails...short. is next to a busy road, so traffic all night. Staff was great! Showers and bathrooms cleaned multiple times a day. Pet friendly. Would stay here again!

    Guide to Jonesville

Jonesville, Michigan sits at approximately 1,100 feet above sea level in a region characterized by glacial moraines and natural lakes. The climate features warm summers with temperatures averaging in the high 70s to low 80s°F, while winters see temperatures dropping below freezing with annual snowfall averaging 40-50 inches. Local campgrounds typically open from April through October, though several offer year-round accommodations.

    What to do

Fishing on multiple lakes: Lake Hudson Recreation Area offers catch-and-release fishing opportunities across its sprawling lake with numerous inlets. One camper noted, "The lake was much bigger then we thought and lots of campers with boats." The lake's curvy shorelines create excellent fishing spots throughout the recreation area.

Kayaking and canoeing: Twin Pines Campground & Canoe Livery provides equipment rentals for water recreation. A visitor shared, "The river was a joy to kayak, although the water level was extremely low, making it hard to maneuver through certain parts." The campground's location on a river provides direct water access.

Star viewing: Take advantage of Lake Hudson's Dark Sky Preserve designation for exceptional night astronomy. A camper mentioned, "The best part of this campground is the stars at night! This is a dark sky preserve campground and the stars are the show. We stayed here at the end of the perseid meteor showers and saw several of falling meteors." The preserve requires campers to keep blinds closed and exterior lights off or minimal for optimal viewing.

Hiking nearby trails: Trails at Pokagon State Park Campground connect to a nearby nature preserve with various difficulty levels. A visitor commented, "There is an extensive trail system to enjoy that connects with the nearby nature preserve." The park's well-maintained paths provide hiking options for all skill levels.

    What campers like

Private, wooded sites: Many campgrounds near Jonesville feature secluded camping spots. At Lake Hudson Recreation Area, a camper observed, "50 sites separated by thick trees, 11 are on the lake side with trails thru woods to lake. All sites are surrounded by trees so you have a sense of being secluded from others." This privacy creates a more natural camping experience.

Clean, updated facilities: Several campgrounds maintain well-kept restrooms and shower facilities. A visitor to Pokagon State Park noted, "The bathroom and shower facilities were clean and updated." Another camper mentioned, "The park is beautifully maintained."

Variety of kid-friendly activities: Gateway Park Campground offers numerous amenities for children. One visitor detailed, "They have a lot for the kids here: Pool 3ft-5ft, Air pillow, Large playground (very clean), Half basketball court, Sand Volleyball net, Rec room, Crafts on weekends, Corn hole boards, Horse shoe pits." These facilities keep children entertained throughout their stay.

Level, spacious campsites: Campsites at Gateway Park Campground provide ample room for setup. A camper stated, "The sites are all paved with plenty of space and with grass and shade. Cement slabs with all the hook ups." The level sites simplify RV parking and tent setup.

    What you should know

Limited water access: Several campgrounds have minimal water facilities. At Lake Hudson Recreation Area, "There is only 1 hand pump that I saw for all the campers to get water from. This mid-evil hand pump should have been scraped years ago and is in need of some major repair work." Campers should bring sufficient water supplies.

Dump station availability: Not all campgrounds offer on-site dumping. One camper at Lake Hudson noted, "They don't sell firewood there but a short drive gets you deal from the local farmer, the campground has no dump station so we had to drive to the next State campground, about a 30 minute drive, to dump the tanks." Alternatively, Quincy-Marble Lake Campground provides this service for a fee: "We didn't stay here. But there is a good dump station that you can pay $5 to use. Helpful if you're staying at one of the nearby state parks that don't have a dump station."

Reservation requirements: Popular dog-friendly campgrounds near Jonesville require advance booking, especially during summer. At Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, a camper advised, "If you are planning a summer weekend you have to book wayyyyy in advance due to demand."

Fishing regulations: Some campgrounds have specific fishing rules not prominently displayed. A visitor to Marble Springs Campground reported, "Fishing but is catch and release. It is not posted any where in the rules or at the fishing spots. Nore was I told this be fore being warned about it."

    Tips for camping with families

Consider noise levels: Some campgrounds offer quieter environments for families with young children. A visitor to Twin Pines described it as "a beautiful, quiet campground with very friendly owners." This creates a more peaceful environment for families needing consistent sleep schedules.

Select sites based on water proximity: At Lake Hudson, "My site has a path right out to the lake. My 2p tent could easily fit on this lakeside spot but it is sadly much too windy on the lake today." Consider wind patterns when selecting waterfront sites with children.

Check water quality for swimming: Be aware of water conditions at swimming areas. A visitor to Twin Pines Campground cautioned, "The only thing that wasn't pleasant was the beach area (too small and muddy), and the fact that my boyfriend's mother had to pull off leeches various different times after being in the water!"

Look for pet-friendly amenities: Many dog-friendly campgrounds near Jonesville offer dedicated pet areas. At Moscow Maples RV Park, a camper observed, "There was a farm with goats next door and I loved watching the animals." This provides entertainment for both children and pets.

    Tips from RVers

Extension cord requirements: At several campgrounds, electrical hookups may require additional equipment. A Lake Hudson camper advised, "Extension or long electrical cords may be needed, as boxes are at back end and halfway to next site over." This helps RVers prepare appropriate equipment.

Site sizes and configurations: Moscow Maples RV Park offers accommodations for various RV sizes. A visitor noted, "The sites were grassy and mostly level. Trees added shade throughout." Level sites with shade trees provide comfort during summer months.

Seasonal availability: Most campgrounds have limited operating seasons. Gateway Park operates from "April 15 to October 15," while some sections of Lighthouse Village RV Resort may have different availability windows for full hookups versus water/electric only sites.

Hookup locations: Position of utilities varies by campground. At Lighthouse Village, a camper advised, "My only 'con' is that full hookups are scarce and don't have the perfect angle and view of the W/E sites. If you want the best sites, forego the 'full hookup', pay less for the best and closest view of Lake Huron."
