    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Cabin accommodations near Ewen, Michigan include options at Lake Gogebic State Park, Bond Falls Campground, and Presque Isle in Porcupine Mountains State Park. Lake Gogebic cabins feature waterfront locations with nearby shower facilities and flush toilets. Bond Falls offers more rustic cabin experiences with access to vault toilets and hand-pump drinking water. According to one visitor, "Sites are well maintained, clean, and reasonably flat" with picnic tables and fire pits at most cabin locations. Electricity is available at Lake Gogebic and Presque Isle cabins, while Bond Falls cabins operate without electric hookups.

Rustic cabins predominate at state park locations, while more furnished options exist at private establishments like Peaceful Pines Resort. Most cabins accommodate 4-6 people with basic furnishings. Reservations are recommended, especially for summer weekends when waterfront locations fill quickly. Pet policies vary by location - Lake Gogebic and Bond Falls permit pets at cabin sites while others may restrict animals. A camper noted that "The sites are free for up to a total of 14 days which is really nice" at Bond Falls, though most state park cabins require reservation fees.

Most cabin rentals include beds but require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, and personal items. Kitchen facilities range from basic fire rings with grates to more equipped setups at private resorts. Firewood is available for purchase at Lake Gogebic, Bond Falls, and Presque Isle. Visitors should stock supplies before arrival as options near campgrounds are limited. For longer stays, the towns of Watersmeet and Conover have small markets for basic provisions. Water access is available at all cabin locations, though the water supply type varies from drinking fountains to hand pumps depending on the site's development level.

Union Bay Campground — Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

Beautiful park with easy access to Lake Superior

This was our first time camping in Michigan and we loved being so close to Lake Superior. We're used to MN state parks, so we found the campsites in MI to be a bit small and too close to each other. The fire ring for the site behind ours was very close to the bed area of our camper. Our spot was campsite #98. There's not a lot of shade or vegetation between campsites in that row, but it was easy walking distance to the modern restroom/showers and Lake Superior. Next time we would like to camp along the lake. The trail around Lake of the Clouds was well worth it!

Union Bay Campground — Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

      An amazing experience!

This was our second time to this park and we stayed in one of the Yurts on the edge of the Union Bay Campground. Inside the yurt there are 2 bunk beds and a wood burning stove, along with a small table and chairs I believe. Outside there is a picnic table and fire ring - since we came at the end of the winter season, the campground provided some wood for us upon arrival. There is a food storage container outside as well so no bears try to break into your yurt.

We stayed at the end of April/beginning of May so the campground itself was not open meaning now access to water or restroom facilities which was okay for us. Additionally we were unable to drive all the way up to the yurt like you would in the summer time. We had to park outside the campground and walk across the entire thing with our stuff - we took 2-3 trips as we didn’t plan for this and packed as though we were car camping. The yurts are a great experience and perfect for a weekend away with friends.

The views of superior are amazing and just below the yurt you have access to the shoreline which is great to watch the sunsets on. Porcupine Mountain offers many trails, many of them longer backcountry trails, and some easier ones as well. It is a great park that I always love coming to!

Union Bay Campground — Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

      Beautiful family campground

Beautiful family campground on the North ashore of Lake Superior. It has RV, tent and back country sites as well as cabins and yurts for rent. Many amazing hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls to explore near by. Campground has large clean bathrooms and showers and a nice camp store. It is also pet friendly and has WiFi,  but no playground.  We stayed at site 82 which had a partial view of the lake and backed the tree line. It was a nice site. I gave this campground 4 out of 5 stars because some of the sites were a little too close together but overall a great campground and we will be back!

Presque Isle — Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

Gorgeous views and perfect rustic space

Great rustic campground on the far west side of the state park. One loop is generator free which was wonderful. Easy to get other places in the park. Water pump and vault toilets. Sites are large and level with grass or packed sand and have a picnic table and fire ring. Dumpsters available for trash.

Presque Isle — Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

      Stunning landscapes

We camped at Presque Isle in the Porkies for a long weekend in October. The color change was amazing! This campground is rustic with only vault toilets and no hookups. There is a section that allows generators during certain hours of the day, a non-generator area and a few walk-in sites. There are a few sites which are along the cliff side looking down to Lake Superior, we were lucky enough to reserve one of those, site 2. It was a very large site, equipped with the standard picnic table and fire ring. Many of the sites back up to the woods, which were smaller and a little soggy while we were there. This campground is one of two in the park, Union Bay is the other more modern campground located right on the lake. The sites there are much smaller and crowded. I prefer the more remote Presque Isle campground by far. Less amenities but far less people. The hiking throughout this park is unparalleled in its beauty. The campground is close to the Presque Isle river trail which is waterfall after waterfall. The park has a ski lift we rode to check out the views from the top of the mountain, as well as an 18 hole disc course. It’s the hiking and rugged beauty of the area that is the main attraction, especially catching the fall colors surrounding Lake Superior.

Presque Isle — Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

Great Campground for exploring, and for those who love waterfalls.

If you're a person who loves waterfalls, then I recommend you don’t miss this campground.  Presque Isle Campground is located at the southern edge of the Porcupine Mountains State Park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  This campground has bluff overlooking Lake Superior, there is a walkway and stairs that take you down the bluff to the shore.  Walking distance from the campground is the Presque River you can hike along and see all the beautiful waterfalls this river has to offer.  This is a Rustic campground that has vault toilets, and hand pump drinking water. The campground, restrooms and surrounding area’s were kept very clean. There are 50 campsites that are equipped for tents, trailers, and RV’s.  Each site has a fire pit, and picnic table.  There is no electrical hook up, and part of the campground is generator free.  Six of the sites are walk in sites, there are parking spots for these sites, you park and walk in a little ways to your site.  I recommend a site that is located on the outer sides of the campground loop.  They are larger sites and more privacy from your neighbors.  Inner loop sites are closer together and open.  Be prepared for mosquitoes and blackflies.  Blackflies bite, and bug spray does not affect them.  I found keeping a hand towel or fly swatter moving around me helped keep them away.  They are more active when it is humid, and down by the water.  These flies seem to be common up here along the shore.

There are many things to do around the campground close to your site and others are a little bit of a drive from your site in the Porcupine Mountains State Park.  If you like to stay close to your camp, you can hang out on the beach, hike along the Presque Isle River and discover the Manabezho Falls, Manido Falls, and the Nawadaha Falls.  Also the Lake Superior Trail and North Country Trail are right by the campground.  These trails will connect you with other trails in the Porcupine Mountains.  The Porcupine Mountains have lot’s to offer anyone stopping to visit.  We took and day and seen The Lake of the Clouds, and Summit Peak.  They both are gorgeous areas to explore.

      Baraga State Park Campground

      Centralized spot

We are on site 22. Very spacious have room for our 20ft TT and could have put up a large screen tent but there is a big dip in the site which caused a huge puddle where we would have placed it. Nice view of the lake can see at least part of it from almost anywhere in the camp. Picnic table and fire ring on every site. There are several full hook up sites (water sewer electric). There are a few pull through sites. Some of the sites (the ones a crossed from us) have a huge dip right at the edge of the site to get in out of the site that can cause some issues with low sitting vehicles. Hosts were very friendly and informative, offered some scheduled programs through out the week and free coffee and doughnuts Saturday morning at the host site. DNR staff almost always available. Serves as a great base point to see probably hundreds of water falls. Some are located just down the street from the campground. Mordern shower clean and had hot water and restroom, clean but toilets are a little tricky to flush...doesn't seem to have enough flushing power. Verizon phone works great... hotspot from Verizon phone works great as well. there is also some WiFi available from somewhere that works but doesn't work(cuts in and out) not sure if it is the parks or a nearby place. The roads in the campground are narrrow but manageable. The park is located on a main highway (41) so you get the noise from the traffic on the road...sometimes this noise can make it hard to have a quiet conversation with those in your camping party....it quiets down some at night but still a lot of noise. Also train tracks runs along the back of the campground which can be quite noisy. We've been here almost a week and have heard only one train(we aren't here a lot during the day we are out exploring). Nice day park across the road from the campground. Located about 30 min. From Houghton (and a Walmart) and about an hour drive to the porcupine mountains.

      Hi-Pines Campground

Wide open space great if you have kids!

This campground is wide and very open. We arrived on a Sunday and the weekend crowd had cleared out, so nice and quiet. One thing is— do not plan on doing laundry on a Monday. The personnel use all the machines to wash linens and towels from the cabins after folks check out. One dryer did not heat very well. The entry to the laundry is a step up and I stubbed my toe because the threshold was not secured.

    Guide to Ewen

Cabin camping options surround Ewen, Michigan, a small community in the western Upper Peninsula where winter temperatures often dip below 0°F. The area features thick forests of maple, birch, and pine with over 200 inches of annual snowfall. Nearby waterways include the Middle Branch Ontonagon River and numerous small lakes that freeze solid from December through March.

    What to do

Waterfall exploration: 10 miles south of Ewen, the Bond Falls area provides opportunities for viewing cascades. A camper at Bond Falls Campground noted, "Beautiful lake full of fish. Amazing waterfall. Clean campground with toilet and hand pump for water. No dump station. West side is near the falls."

Lake activities: Fishing and swimming are popular at larger lakes in the region. At Lake Gogebic State Park Campground, "The beach area was nice with a nice big sandy beach for the kids. The Porcupine Mtns were a 30 minute drive north and we had a great time there," according to a summer visitor.

Winter sports: Many cabin sites maintain access during winter months for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. The trails near cabins connect to broader regional networks covering hundreds of miles through the Ottawa National Forest.

    What campers like

Rustic waterfront settings: Lakefront cabins offer direct water access and scenic views. One camper at Lake Gogebic State Park shared that they "had a site in the shade, directly on the lake. There were quite a few muddy spots at our & surrounding sites due to a lot of recent rain. We had to move our car to the parking lot to avoid getting stuck."

Privacy between sites: At Presque Isle - Porcupine Mountains State Park, cabins and campsites are well-spaced. A visitor reported, "Many of the sites back up to the woods, which were smaller and a little soggy while we were there." This separation provides a more isolated wilderness experience compared to more developed campgrounds.

Clean facilities: Despite rustic settings, most cabin areas maintain good standards. One visitor noted about Presque Isle, "The campground is rustic with only vault toilets and no hookups. There is a section that allows generators during certain hours of the day, a non-generator area and a few walk-in sites."

    What you should know

Mosquito and fly season: Summer brings significant insect activity. A camper at Bond Falls Campground reported, "Mosquitoes and flies were so bad that our dogs faces were getting bloody and bug spray and a fire did nothing for us. We packed up and canceled our whole trip after that." Bug protection is essential from May through early September.

Limited amenities: Most cabin locations offer basic facilities only. According to a Lake Gogebic visitor, "Should you need to purchase any other supplies, I would recommend doing so beforehand, as there are not a lot of options nearby."

Road noise considerations: Some cabin sites are affected by nearby highways. For cabins at Baraga State Park Campground, a camper warned, "The campground is literally a few yards from Interstate 41 - the trucks and noise make it impossible to catch any shut eye from any site in the park."

Seasonal accessibility: Winter access to more remote cabins may require snowmobiles or snowshoes during heavy snow months (December-March).

    Tips for camping with families

Beach options: Several lakes offer sandy swimming areas. A visitor to Lake Gogebic mentioned "a nice big sandy beach for the kids" that provides safe swimming opportunities with gradual depth increases.

Playground availability: Some campgrounds offer play equipment. At Hi-Pines Campground in nearby Eagle River, "We enjoyed the amenities and activities this campground had to offer. Great activities for kids…fishing presentation, movie, kickball."

Weather preparation: Temperature swings can be significant even in summer. Packing layers is advised as nights can dip below 50°F even in July and August.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Dawn and dusk offer opportunities to see deer, foxes, and occasionally black bears from cabin areas (maintain safe distances).

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many cabin and RV sites in the region require leveling equipment. At Peaceful Pines Resort, RV sites offer more level options than public campgrounds, with a visitor noting it's a "Wonderful RV Resort! Brand New and Wow what a Bathhouse! The lake is right there steps away that is crystal clear and sandy bottom!!"

Generator restrictions: Several campgrounds have specific generator hours or dedicated generator/non-generator sections. A Presque Isle camper explained, "There is a section that allows generators during certain hours of the day, a non-generator area and a few walk-in sites."

Seasonal opening dates: Many cabin facilities don't open until mid-May due to spring thaw conditions and close by mid-October. Confirming operation dates before planning is essential.
