Glamping sites near Glenwood, Maryland offer diverse overnight options within Montgomery County and its surrounding areas. Located in central Maryland, campsites range from secluded woodland settings to facilities with convenient access to urban amenities. Seasonal considerations affect availability, with most campgrounds operating at full capacity from April through October when temperatures typically range from 65-85°F during summer months.
What to Do
Lake activities at Burke Lake Park: The 5-mile paved path around the lake provides easy access for fishing and boat rentals. "BLP has a great lake for fishing and boat rentals, a paved path to walk around the lake (about 5 miles) and a fantastic playground. There is a carousel and a kiddy train, frisbee golf, a regular golf course - all a short drive from DC," notes Alexis from Fairfax County Burke Lake Park.
Explore wildlife viewing: Pohick Bay Regional Park offers excellent opportunities for bird watching, particularly bald eagles. "Beautiful campground located near the National Harbor. Eagles everywhere! Large clean sites. Great staff!" shares Kathie M. from Pohick Bay Campground.
Outdoor recreation options: Many parks offer disc golf courses within walking distance of camping areas. "Pohick Bay is my go-to weekend camping spot. Just a few miles outside DC, Pohick Bay is a hidden gem in the area. I'd recommend taking in a game of disc golf on their 18 hole course," recommends Rachel L.
What Campers Like
Direct access to Washington DC attractions: Campgrounds serve as convenient bases for city exploration. "The best park in the DC area! Very nice grounds, clean, and amenities galore! Plan and reserve you DC tours right at the campground. No need to drive anywhere, the tour buses pick you up at the park!" says Jason E. from Bull Run Regional Park.
Value and amenities: Many sites offer full hookups with additional perks. "You get what you pay for. This campground has so much to offer. We loved it. Pros: 50 amp hook-up, Water, Sewer, Playground, Mini Golf, Swimming Pool, Hot tub, Basketball court, Snack bar on site, Nightly hayride, Gated, On-site camp store, On-site bus shuttle," lists Beth R. from Cherry Hill Park.
Well-maintained sites: Campgrounds typically feature level, spacious spots with privacy options. "Quiet, spacious and heavily wooded sites. We stayed at site D72 for 4 days. The sites are quiet, very spacious, level, and heavily wooded with 50A service, water and sewer hookup," notes Ray & Terri F. from Little Bennett Campground.
What You Should Know
Site selection matters: Not all sites are created equal within the same campground. "Check out your site before booking, some sites are steep but spacious. Close to town but far enough to enjoy yourself. Bathrooms are clean and have decent showers," advises ben S. from Louise F. Cosca Regional Park.
Reservations recommended: Most campgrounds require advance booking, especially during peak season. "We reserved campsite B14. It was right next to the bathroom (we wanted to be near the restroom for the kids) but it was about 20 ft away, so pretty distracting. The sites were oddly shaped - our grill was on the edge of the site, closer to the neighbor's picnic table."
Noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience environmental noise. "Nice camp ground is nice. Check in was a breeze. The only drawback is that it is not quite. There is a shooting range in the park. It is on a flight path for DCA. And, I66 is not that far away," reports Drew M.
Tips for Camping with Families
Playground proximity: Choose sites near play areas but be aware of potential noise. "We had a great time here over a long weekend in August. The check in is a breeze and the staff is super nice and helpful. They gave us a great intro to the park as we were first timers. They informed us that they had a scavenger hunt for the kids going all weekend, they had an outdoor movie scheduled for Friday night, a campfire story time scheduled for Saturday night and crafts scheduled for Sunday morning," shares Ben G.
Kid-friendly activities: Many campgrounds offer scheduled programming for children. "The campground had a climbing wall on one afternoon. There are miles of trails and my gkids enjoyed the nature scavenger hunt. You even get a prize when you finish. This park has too many amenities to list. They had a campfire complete with s'mores followed by hayrides. Great family friendly campground," notes Bridget H.
Multiple recreation options: Look for sites with diverse activities. "My family loves this camp ground. It's conveniently located, it's quite, it's beautiful and there is plenty to do to keep the kids busy," says Ryan D. from Ramblin' Pines.
Tips from RVers
Site leveling needs: Come prepared with leveling blocks for some campgrounds. "Site #D69 level side-to-side but we were forced to greatly elevate front of trailer to level front-to-back. Site #D69 gravel parking pad. Wooden/metal picnic table that was moveable. Metal fire pit with cooking grate," details Napunani.
Utility considerations: Check what hookups are available before booking. "D Loop is for RVs, A, B, C& E are tents only. AT&T 5 MB/s w/o booster(1 bar), 8 MB/s with it(2 bars). There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was descent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi."
Access limitations: Not all sites accommodate larger rigs. "We stayed at site 18, one of the ones with power. This is not a gated campground so anyone can come through and have a tour. Park Police patrol the campground 2 times a day."
