South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

    ALMOST PERFECT

This was my first time at this beautiful state park. I will definitely come back! 3 days was not long enough to do everything! Our camper site was #46. It had a very large well kept wooden deck with a picnic table. The camper pad was long and concrete. It was slightly uneven, we used 3 blocks to level it off..There was also a large sand pad if you preferred a tent. A firepit was also there. Many of the other sites also had decks, with the same things available. It had water and electricity, a dump station, and very clean shower/restrooms . Also available were primitive camping sites with amazing views. Oh, did I mention that our site had a very short walk to a dock overlooking the beautiful lake. This dock had room for four boats! There are beautiful biking, and hiking trails, both concrete and dirt. Several play areas for the kids! There was a beach and swimming area, a nature center,, and playgrounds. The camp hosts were amazing and very helpful. The park was super clean, family and pet friendly, and a great price at 28 dollars a night. Happy camping!!

Toledo Bend Recreation Site - MILITARY

    Family Friendly, prime fishing location.

The Army Recreation sight managed by MWR is a very well run campground and boat launch. Making a reservation was easy, and the lady i made the reservation with initially even called to follow up when the weather turned ugly.

Our stay was in one of their Yurts. Though they do have cabins as well as primitive camping options. The yurt was supplied with two bunks, the bottoms being a a full size with the top bunks being twins. Amenities included heating and air conditioning as well as a mini fridge, keurig, and a couple of small drawers and a lamp. The only real complaint i can say i had was some of the linoleum tile was loose inside. Other than that, the yurt was an interesting cross between cabin and tent.

Fishing is also very available, as well as playground, boat launch, boat rentals and R.V. accommodations as well.

We may just go back and try a cabin next time as the temperatures have been getting cold here.

Also be aware, there is a one time pet fee when staying in the cabins and yurts.

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

Camping, canoeing & kayaking, at S. Toledo Bend State Park, west Louisiana

Nice state park on western boundary of Louisiana along Toledo Bend Reservoir. Camping here is usually quite nice from late Oct through late April. Only (5) undeveloped campsites are available for tents/hammocks only. They have a great view looking out over the huge lake. Each has a picnic table and a fire ring w/ steel grill rack. On weekends you must reserve campsites/cabins for a minimum of two nights when doing online reservations. There is a large number of improved campsites that have water and electrical hook-ups, and quite a few cabins that can be rented, some of which also have a nice view of the lake. Bathhouse was fairly clean whenever I have been there, and has showers, sinks, and flush toilets. I would have given this park's camping area a 5-star rating, but there was no hot water left to take a nice warm shower during my last visit. Toledo Bend Reservoir is the #1 bass fishing lake in America 2 years in a row. Clean water and a few sandy beaches along the two small nearby islands are great for hanging out on when canoeing/kayaking/ boating. Bald Eagles are often seen during late Fall, Winter months, and early Spring. Please note that the raccoons are professional thieves at this state park, so you need to put your food away at night.

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

    Excellent Primitive Experience

Primitive campsites are clean, include a picnic table and fire pit, and are nestled on a bluff overlooking Toledo Bend. The park offers a comfort station within walking distance of the primitive sites that includes air-conditioned bathrooms and showers, coin-operated laundry, and water fountains. Multiple trails, a boat launch, fish cleaning station, swimming area, and more! We had a great experience and plan to return as often as we can. I couldn’t expect any more for less than $20/night.

    BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS

We stayed at site #3, which was pretty much full sun. But, it was on the water with access to the water. Full hookups, concrete pads. Very clean, but dated restrooms. Laundry room was available. Boat launch, fishing, beautiful playground, gorgeous flower beds. No grocery on grounds. The grounds people were busy putting out Christmas decorations! Seems that they have a huge beautiful display every year.

    Lotus Camp

    Tree roots and trails

Isnide the Kisatchie National Forest, Kisatchie District Lotus campground offers water, flush toilets and easy access to the Sandstone Trail. Each campsite has a fire ring, picnic table and lots of tree roots. This campground is designated for off road vehicle campers as opposed to horse campers. A bit scary when it started raining and we were under those big beautiful trees, but we made it through. Again, the campgrounds in this area are so well marked and easy to find. There is a $3 per night fee to camp here and a $5 trail use fee.

    Cypress Bend State Rec Area

Peaceful Lakeside Getaway with Great Amenities 🌲🎣

We had a fantastic stay at Cypress Bend State Recreation Area! The park is beautifully maintained and set on the edge of Toledo Bend Lake, offering some truly scenic views, especially at sunset. We stayed at one of the RV sites—super convenient with full hookups(water, sewer, and electric), and the grounds were quiet and peaceful. The waterfront cabins also looked very cozy and well-equipped—definitely planning to try one next time. Highlights for us were the renovated beach area, clean restrooms, and the lighted fishing pier, which made evening fishing a treat. There's also a playground and volleyball court, which is great if you're bringing kids. The$2 entrance fee is more than reasonable, and the staff was friendly and helpful, especially with late arrival check-in info. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing nature escape, whether you're camping, fishing, or just looking to unwind by the lake! https://scriptbaldeball.com/

Guide to Provencal

Cabins near Provencal, Louisiana offer visitors access to Toledo Bend Reservoir, the largest man-made body of water in the southern United States spanning 185,000 acres along the Louisiana-Texas border. The area sits within Kisatchie National Forest, characterized by longleaf pine forests and sandstone outcroppings with elevations ranging from 80 to 300 feet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, making lakefront accommodations particularly desirable during peak season.

What to do

Fishing from boat docks: At San Miguel Park - SRA, visitors can fish directly from the lakefront. "This campground is known for its beautiful views right on the lake, making it a perfect backdrop for your camping adventures," notes one camper.

Wildlife viewing: Wildwood RV Resort offers unique animal encounters beyond typical forest wildlife. "They had exotic waterfowl, emus, cows, peacocks, donkeys, miniature horses, and more," reports a visitor who stayed in one of their cabin accommodations.

Trail hiking: Within Lotus Camp in Kisatchie National Forest, campers can access the Sandstone Trail. "Isnide the Kisatchie National Forest, Kisatchie District Lotus campground offers water, flush toilets and easy access to the Sandstone Trail," writes one reviewer who paid the $5 trail use fee.

"The park has a renovated beach area, playground, volleyball court, covered pavilions with picnic tables, restrooms, and a 6-lane paved boat ramp," notes a visitor describing the recreation options at Cypress Bend.

What campers like

Lakefront sites: Campers consistently mention the value of waterfront views. At North Toledo Bend State Park Campground, guests report excellent vistas: "Loved our stay here. We have camped several Texas parks and this one is nicer than any we've found so far. Nice clean upgraded bath houses. Great Lake views. Spotted an eagle out our window."

Fish cleaning stations: Anglers appreciate dedicated facilities for processing their catch. "Great fishing and nice fish cleaning station," notes a visitor to North Toledo Bend who stayed during winter months.

Cabin proximity to water: Toledo Bend cabin rentals with direct lake access receive consistently positive feedback. "We stayed at site #3, which was pretty much full sun. But, it was on the water with access to the water," mentions one Cypress Bend Park visitor.

What you should know

Limited supplies: Grocery options near cabin rentals in the Provencal area are scarce. One camper at South Toledo Bend State Park Campground notes: "Roads need some work getting in there and the closest store (gas station) with any necessities is about a 20min drive each way."

Road conditions: Several campgrounds have challenging access roads. "The biggest problem with this park is the roads. I'm used to potholes living in Louisiana but it isn't ideal for narrow roads with a large camper," cautions a South Toledo Bend visitor.

Hookup variations: Cabin and camping facilities offer inconsistent utility connections. "I went to plug in the power and the box was very old and no 30 amp plug. It only had a 50 amp and 110v plug," reports one Grand Bayou Resort camper who had to use adapters.

Wildlife awareness: Raccoons are particularly active at certain Toledo Bend cabin areas. "Please note that the raccoons are professional thieves at this state park, so you need to put your food away at night," warns a camper about South Toledo Bend.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple Toledo Bend cabin rentals include play equipment. "This camp ground is well kept. There is a nice beach and really nice fishing pears and dock," shares a Grand Bayou Resort visitor who returns annually.

Wildlife education: Families particularly enjoy Wildwood's animal collection. "The staff was friendly and helpful. There's a small gift shop that has all that you need if you left something," explains a visitor who appreciated these amenities with children.

Off-season visits: Consider winter cabin stays to avoid summer heat. "Stayed a month so escape northern winter; will come back!" reports one North Toledo Bend visitor who found the park "well maintained" with "tidied grounds."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Toledo Bend cabin and RV sites often feature uneven terrain. "Site are humped on pull Thur sites so long rigs will have trouble leveling," notes a Grand Bayou visitor.

Power adapter requirements: Bring various electrical adapters for inconsistent hookups. "I have a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter but for some reason it was not in my box. I did have a 30 amp to 110v adapter so I had to go that route," shares a camper who stayed at site 29 in Grand Bayou.

Tree root awareness: At Lotus Camp, sites have natural obstacles. "Each campsite has a fire ring, picnic table and lots of tree roots," cautions a reviewer who still rated their experience positively.

Site selection strategy: Choose interior sites for more privacy at busier times. "Another word of advice, try to skip the sites on the loop around site 31. There's too much traffic and for some reason it looked like there was about 5 cars per camper!" recommends a South Toledo Bend visitor.
