    Midway RV Park & Marina

Has everything I need including privacy

I was looking for a Louisiana location for an extended stay, I wanted to find a riverside, quiet location with large sites. A place where there was room for my travel trailer, boat, and truck. I found that and much more at Jones' Riverside Marina & RV Park.

It is in the country but not that far from the charming city of Natchitoches. The staff members are always friendly and helpful. There is a well-stocked store along with a carry-out restaurant (sit down part is closed due to covid-19). They have a free boat ramp and docks (very handy for me). The fishing is always good from the bank or a boat. My travel trailer is small but this facility is big rig friendly. I like the laid-back atmosphere and southern hospitality that is present here. This is not a huge, fancy, "resort", but those are not for me. I don't care for the crowds, noise, price, and many restrictions of those places. This RV Park emulates the real Louisiana!

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

    ALMOST PERFECT

This was my first time at this beautiful state park. I will definitely come back! 3 days was not long enough to do everything! Our camper site was #46. It had a very large well kept wooden deck with a picnic table. The camper pad was long and concrete. It was slightly uneven, we used 3 blocks to level it off..There was also a large sand pad if you preferred a tent. A firepit was also there. Many of the other sites also had decks, with the same things available. It had water and electricity, a dump station, and very clean shower/restrooms . Also available were primitive camping sites with amazing views. Oh, did I mention that our site had a very short walk to a dock overlooking the beautiful lake. This dock had room for four boats! There are beautiful biking, and hiking trails, both concrete and dirt. Several play areas for the kids! There was a beach and swimming area, a nature center,, and playgrounds. The camp hosts were amazing and very helpful. The park was super clean, family and pet friendly, and a great price at 28 dollars a night. Happy camping!!

    Indian Mounds Recreation Area

    Quiet place to camp

Indian Mounds Campground is located in East Texas near the Texas-Louisiana border in the Sabine National Forest. It is a quiet and peaceful location to camp.

RV and tent campsites come with a fire ring, a picnic table, and potable water. Good views of the lake and situated in forest area. Nearby hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing. Not many campers in campground and that made for a great stay!

    Hidden Treasure RV Resort

    Great location

This campground is located on the Cotile lake in Boyce, Louisiana. And it's only about 8 or 10 minutes from I-49, but well worth the time. There is a small boat launch/fishing area. A couple of the guests are long term, but it is very quiet here. No matter what site you are in, you will need to level your rv. We are in site #17 and it overlooks the lake. Owners are fantastic. Highly recommend.

    Shady Lake RV Park

Feels like a Trailer Park rather than a Campground

I was out looking for a place to camp. I drove around the park. Some RV’s had dug in their sewer hoses for a more permanent living arrangement. There were other clues that verified some were living here very long term. You could tell some sites were set up like the people had been living there longer than a year.

While the owner was very nice and friendly, I just would not feel comfortable camping around people who live there long term.

I have since found out that this happens around Military Bases frequently. The reason is because it makes more financial sense for Military Personnel to not stay in base housing. Permanent Base Housing sucks their housing allowance away quickly. However, purchasing an RV and getting into a campground enables them to keep more of that money in their pockets.

This campground is near Fort Polk. I was told by one of the Army People that works there, this is what is happening with all of the RV resorts/campgrounds in the area. I understand what’s happening better now.

However, camping in a campground around a majority of the people that live in a place long term is more like moving into an old neighborhood. It’s equivalent to going to camp in a residential trailer park. That’s not camping. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Grand Bayou Resort

    Friendly and Quiet

I stayed at site 29 and the site was clean and level enough for my small camper. I went to plug in the power and the box was very old and no 30 amp plug. It only had a 50 amp and 110v plug. I have a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter but for some reason it was not in my box. I did have a 30 amp to 110v adapter so I had to go that route. There is a nice laundry, men and women’s bathroom with showers. On the men’s side of the 4 toilets 2 were out of service. The showers the water trickles out with little pressure but there was hot water. The showers along the walls need cleaning as there was mildew and maybe mold. The rest of the park was clean. The beach area and peers were very nice. There was dozens of people that are clearly living out here in the campground. Lots of them are really junked up. I paid $32 per night. You can tell this campground is minimally maintained given the broken toilets and unclean showers. The folks I met out here were super nice and very friendly. Fishing is really good and the swimming beach seemed very nice. They do have locked gates with security that makes rounds.

Guide to Provencal

RV campgrounds near Provencal, Louisiana offer campers access to the diverse Kisatchie National Forest ecosystem with elevations ranging from 80 to 400 feet. Most Provencal area campgrounds experience mild winters with occasional freezing temperatures and hot, humid summers that regularly exceed 90°F. Seasonal considerations impact availability, with fall offering cooler temperatures and less crowded conditions at most facilities.

What to do

Boat access to Red River: The Colfax Recreation Area RV Park & Campground provides direct river access with boat launch facilities. "This is a quiet park right on the Red River. Sunsets are amazing over the river," notes Gary G. The park includes docks and a dedicated fish cleaning area for anglers.

Water activities for children: Nearby water recreation extends beyond standard camping. "We like to let the kids kayak in the oxbow at the landing. Nice place to go for a short weekend trip to get out the house and on the water," shares Jessica B. about her family visits to Colfax Recreation Area.

Farm animal experiences: Wildwood RV Resort offers unique animal interactions not commonly found at standard campgrounds. "Animals were awesome. They had exotic waterfowl, emus, cows, peacocks, donkeys, miniature horses, and more," reports Noah F. This resort combines traditional camping with farm-style experiences, making it suitable for families seeking animal encounters.

What campers like

Concrete pad sites: Grand Ecore RV Park earns consistent praise for well-maintained level sites. "Very spacious with some shady spots and lots of green grass. Roads are easy to navigate and concrete pads," reports James R., noting the park's accessibility for larger vehicles.

Lakefront positioning: Lakeview Mobile Home and RV Park offers waterfront sites that campers specifically seek out. "Country, peaceful, Lakefront RV spots Short or Long term," states Gary A., highlighting the tranquil setting that appeals to both temporary and extended-stay campers.

Fishing opportunities: Bass fishing enthusiasts can access quality waters at various locations surrounding Provencal. "Toledo Bend Reservoir, one of the top 5 bass fishing lakes in the US," notes Stephen B. regarding the fishing potential near Lost Frontier RV Park. Multiple campgrounds within 30 miles of Provencal provide access to productive fishing waters.

What you should know

Long-term residents vs. travelers: Some parks in the Provencal region function primarily as semi-permanent communities rather than traditional campgrounds. "Some RV's had dug in their sewer hoses for a more permanent living arrangement. There were other clues that verified some were living here very long term," observes Granny C. about Shady Lake RV Park. This reviewer notes that military personnel from nearby Fort Polk often use local RV parks as housing alternatives.

Cell service variations: While most major carriers maintain coverage between Natchitoches and Provencal, signal strength can vary significantly outside town centers. Reception generally decreases in forested areas and valleys within Kisatchie National Forest. Campers planning remote work should verify connectivity options before arrival.

Limited propane services: Few campgrounds in immediate Provencal vicinity offer on-site propane refill stations. Most RVers need to travel to larger communities for refills. Call ahead to confirm current propane availability if this service is essential to your camping needs.

Tips for camping with families

Christmas festival access: Magnolia Hill RV Park provides strategic positioning for seasonal celebrations. "Not far from Natchitoches, LA. There is a big Christmas festival there late November and December with lots of lights," mentions Mark J. Families planning holiday-season visits should reserve sites several months in advance.

Playground facilities: Dedicated play areas enhance family camping experiences at select locations. "We especially liked the big playground and the floating dock," Josh B. shares about Grand Ecore. Families with young children should prioritize campgrounds with developed recreation areas during summer months when outdoor activities center around water features and playgrounds.

Swimming options: Multiple swimming opportunities exist within 20 miles of Provencal. "Kids love the swimming pool and splash deck and nearby jungle gym," notes Stephen B. about amenities at Lost Frontier RV Park. During peak summer temperatures, water features become essential for family comfort.

Tips from RVers

Size accommodation realities: The Provencal area includes campgrounds suitable for various RV sizes. "I was able to park my 44 foot motorhome with a towed Jeep without unhooking," shares James R. about Grand Ecore. Larger rigs should verify specific site dimensions and entrance road conditions before booking.

Entry road considerations: Terrain around Provencal includes hills that can challenge some RVs. "Entrance road is gravel and very steep but I was able to drive my 34' motor home up pulling my jeep no problem," reports Mark J. about Magnolia Hill RV Park. Drivers of larger Class A motorhomes should call ahead for current road conditions, especially after heavy rainfall.

Spacing between sites: Natchitoches Pecan Orchard RV Park offers roomier arrangements than many alternatives. "Nice large pull through sites with easy hook ups," notes Casey L. RVers seeking privacy consistently recommend sites at campgrounds with adequate space between neighboring units.
