Best RV Parks & Resorts near Anacoco, LA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks surround the Anacoco area with varying amenities and settings. Shady Lake RV Park in Leesville provides water, sewer, and electric hookups with 50-amp service for larger motorhomes, while Arlington RV Park offers similar full hookup sites with big rig access along Lake Charles Highway. "Arlington RV park is right off the road, and you can hear cars going by easily from anywhere in the rv park," notes one camper, highlighting the roadside location that prioritizes convenience over seclusion. Pecan Acres RV Park features level sites with full hookups and receives positive feedback for its well-maintained grounds, accommodating both short-term travelers and extended stays near Fort Polk.

For RV travelers planning routes through western Louisiana, most parks near Anacoco remain open year-round but often fill with long-term residents connected to nearby military installations. Many parks in this region have paved roads with gravel or concrete pads and typically provide trash service, though laundry facilities are less common. Cellular service remains consistent throughout the area, with WiFi available at select locations like Pecan Acres. Pet policies vary between properties, with both Arlington and Pecan Acres allowing pets, though some restrictions may apply. RV storage options are limited, and travelers should note that while sanitary dump stations exist at several parks, not all facilities offer this service.

    Grand Ecore RV Park

Corps of Engineer/Red River Waterway Commission RV Park

A few miles from Natchitoches, LA and the nicest RV park in the area. Well spaced concrete pad level RV Sites with gated access. Combination pull through sand back in that accommodated our 45 ft. motorhome and Jeep towed. Rich with grassy areas and trees. Each site has a fire pit/BBQ and picnic tables. Next to boat launch that takes you to the Red River. Nice activity center available to all campers. Very organized concrete surrounded hookups next to pads. Playground and activity building with full kitchen open to all campers.

    Midway RV Park & Marina

Has everything I need including privacy

I was looking for a Louisiana location for an extended stay, I wanted to find a riverside, quiet location with large sites. A place where there was room for my travel trailer, boat, and truck. I found that and much more at Jones' Riverside Marina & RV Park.

It is in the country but not that far from the charming city of Natchitoches. The staff members are always friendly and helpful. There is a well-stocked store along with a carry-out restaurant (sit down part is closed due to covid-19). They have a free boat ramp and docks (very handy for me). The fishing is always good from the bank or a boat. My travel trailer is small but this facility is big rig friendly. I like the laid-back atmosphere and southern hospitality that is present here. This is not a huge, fancy, "resort", but those are not for me. I don't care for the crowds, noise, price, and many restrictions of those places. This RV Park emulates the real Louisiana!

COE Sam Rayburn Reservoir San Augustine Park

Clean, quiet, spacious, and great lake views

1/26/23-1/30/23- This is a great COE campsite that is spacious, clean, quiet, and site#63 has lake views on 3 sides. A picnic table, fire-pit, lantern post, 30A electric, and water are provided. This is a back-in site that slopes significantly to the rear(lake side) though. I needed to lower the front of my 34’ fifth wheel trailer 16” to level it; L/R leveling was reasonable needing 1/2” on the right side. The grassy area around the site would be great for outdoor games and the water access would be great to fish from shore, boat access to the site, or swimming. The staff were very congenial and the dump station is conveniently located on the right side just before exiting the campground. Verizon 4G was 4-bars with 20Mbps download and 2Mbps upload speeds. I paid$13/night with my Interagency Senior Pass. Too bad that it was rainy most of the weekend and we didn’t have nicer weather.

South Toledo Bend State Park Campground

    ALMOST PERFECT

This was my first time at this beautiful state park. I will definitely come back! 3 days was not long enough to do everything! Our camper site was #46. It had a very large well kept wooden deck with a picnic table. The camper pad was long and concrete. It was slightly uneven, we used 3 blocks to level it off..There was also a large sand pad if you preferred a tent. A firepit was also there. Many of the other sites also had decks, with the same things available. It had water and electricity, a dump station, and very clean shower/restrooms . Also available were primitive camping sites with amazing views. Oh, did I mention that our site had a very short walk to a dock overlooking the beautiful lake. This dock had room for four boats! There are beautiful biking, and hiking trails, both concrete and dirt. Several play areas for the kids! There was a beach and swimming area, a nature center,, and playgrounds. The camp hosts were amazing and very helpful. The park was super clean, family and pet friendly, and a great price at 28 dollars a night. Happy camping!!

    Hidden Treasure RV Resort

    Great location

This campground is located on the Cotile lake in Boyce, Louisiana. And it's only about 8 or 10 minutes from I-49, but well worth the time. There is a small boat launch/fishing area. A couple of the guests are long term, but it is very quiet here. No matter what site you are in, you will need to level your rv. We are in site #17 and it overlooks the lake. Owners are fantastic. Highly recommend.

    Indian Mounds Recreation Area

    Quiet place to camp

Indian Mounds Campground is located in East Texas near the Texas-Louisiana border in the Sabine National Forest. It is a quiet and peaceful location to camp.

RV and tent campsites come with a fire ring, a picnic table, and potable water. Good views of the lake and situated in forest area. Nearby hiking, biking, swimming, and fishing. Not many campers in campground and that made for a great stay!

    Shady Lake RV Park

Feels like a Trailer Park rather than a Campground

I was out looking for a place to camp. I drove around the park. Some RV’s had dug in their sewer hoses for a more permanent living arrangement. There were other clues that verified some were living here very long term. You could tell some sites were set up like the people had been living there longer than a year.

While the owner was very nice and friendly, I just would not feel comfortable camping around people who live there long term.

I have since found out that this happens around Military Bases frequently. The reason is because it makes more financial sense for Military Personnel to not stay in base housing. Permanent Base Housing sucks their housing allowance away quickly. However, purchasing an RV and getting into a campground enables them to keep more of that money in their pockets.

This campground is near Fort Polk. I was told by one of the Army People that works there, this is what is happening with all of the RV resorts/campgrounds in the area. I understand what’s happening better now.

However, camping in a campground around a majority of the people that live in a place long term is more like moving into an old neighborhood. It’s equivalent to going to camp in a residential trailer park. That’s not camping. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Guide to Anacoco

RV parks surrounding Anacoco, Louisiana offer accommodations mainly concentrated around Leesville and near Toledo Bend Reservoir, one of America's premier bass fishing destinations. The area sits at approximately 230 feet above sea level in western Louisiana's pine forests, where summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F between June and September. Most camping facilities in this region primarily serve military personnel stationed at nearby Fort Polk.

What to do

Fishing access: Toledo Bend Recreation Site provides excellent fishing opportunities on one of the top bass lakes in the country. "The Army Recreation sight managed by MWR is a very well run campground and boat launch. Making a reservation was easy, and the lady i made the reservation with initially even called to follow up when the weather turned ugly," notes Conrad V.

Water recreation: The region offers swimming options during warmer months. At Wildwood RV Resort, visitors can enjoy amenities with additional water attractions nearby. "There's also a water park right next door," reports Noah F., making this a practical option for cooling off during Louisiana's hot summers.

Animal viewing: Several campgrounds maintain small collections of animals that provide entertainment without leaving the property. "Animals were awesome. They had exotic waterfowl, emus, cows, peacocks, donkeys, miniature horses, and more," notes a visitor to Wildwood RV Resort, offering an unexpected activity option during your stay.

What campers like

Waterfront locations: Lost Frontier RV Park receives praise for its lakeside setting. A camper highlights the "Incomparable beauty located on a tranquil harbor off of Toledo Bend Reservoir, one of the top 5 bass fishing lakes in the US. Cabins and lakeview RV sites on a bay surrounded by beautiful unscarred National Forest."

Clean facilities: Natchitoches Pecan Orchard RV Park maintains well-kept grounds with concrete pads. "We stayed 3 nights and it was a peaceful visit. There were plenty of sites to choose from, all on clean concrete pads," reports Lea B., highlighting the importance of site quality for campers in this region.

On-site amenities: Many campers appreciate when parks offer additional services. "We liked having laundry on site, clean and affordable," notes Casey L. about Natchitoches Pecan Orchard RV Park, adding convenience for longer stays without leaving the grounds.

What you should know

Military population impact: Many RV parks near Anacoco primarily serve military personnel from Fort Polk. One camper at Magnolia Hill RV Park notes, "Nice location with a beautiful view of the hills. There is full hookups with a Bathhouse and free WiFi." This park offers an alternative to the military-focused accommodations closer to the base.

Long-term vs. short-term balance: Most RV parks in this region maintain a mix of permanent and temporary residents. "This is a true rv park, but was fairly clean and maintained compared to others in the area. This is not a place to go if you are looking to have a nice relaxing camping experience," explains one reviewer about parks in the Leesville area.

Variable quality between properties: Campground standards differ significantly within short distances. Some properties struggle with maintenance issues, as one camper notes about JD's RV Park: "The property is just a field and could use some improvements. The road needs gravel and trash was piled up."

Tips for camping with families

Look for recreational amenities: Fin & Feather Resort offers multiple family-friendly features. "The resort has cabins and rooms for rent, a marina with boat launches, a nice little store, and a great restaurant with good eats," reports Brandon A., providing important diversions for children during your stay.

Consider seasonal attractions: Winter camping offers unique regional experiences. As one Magnolia Hill RV Park camper notes, Natchitoches is "Not far from Natchitoches, LA. There is a big Christmas festival there late November and December with lots of lights," providing a seasonal attraction for family trips.

Pet policies vary: While most area campgrounds allow pets, restrictions may apply. Bring appropriate containment and cleanup supplies, and inquire about specific rules when booking. At Toledo Bend Recreation Site, "be aware, there is a one time pet fee when staying in the cabins and yurts," advises a visitor.

Tips from RVers

Concrete pad availability: Look for campgrounds with level, improved sites. As Casey L. points out, "Nice large pull through sites with easy hook ups" make Natchitoches Pecan Orchard RV Park more comfortable for larger vehicles.

Access considerations: Some campgrounds present challenges for larger rigs. While discussing Magnolia Hill RV Park, one RVer cautions, "Entrance road is gravel and very steep but I was able to drive my 34' motor home up pulling my jeep no problem."

Service expectations: Mobile connectivity varies throughout the region. Jess&Tony at Magnolia Hill RV Park report it's "In the wild so expect bugs but nothing that made our stay uncomfortable. 3 gas stations right up the road-2 of which are RV friendly," highlighting the importance of checking nearby fuel access for larger vehicles.
