Near Santa Claus, Indiana, glamping options sit within the rolling hills of southern Indiana where elevations range between 400-500 feet. The area experiences humid continental climate with hot summers and mild winters, making late spring through early fall the prime camping season. Most glamping sites in this region are situated within a 25-mile radius of the town.
What to Do
Water activities at Scales Lake Park: Visitors can enjoy boating, swimming, and fishing just steps from their glamping accommodations. "There is a boat ramp for fishing boats and kayaks. There is also a beach area for swimming with water slide and diving boards," notes Jennifer T. from Scales Lake Park.
Hiking trails for all skill levels: Explore multiple trail networks throughout the region with various difficulty levels. "We spent our time hiking on the Interpretive Trail (1mi) near Celina Lake and Two Rivers Trail (15 mi) which encompasses both Celina and Indian Lake," shares Shelly S. from Hoosier National Forest North Face Loop Campground.
Cycling and outdoor recreation: Several parks offer dedicated biking trails and recreational activities beyond water sports. "They have nice showers and bathrooms that are always clean. If you like boating you can boat or kayak here," explains Catie F. from Celina Recreation Area.
What Campers Like
Privacy between sites: Many glamping locations offer secluded spaces away from neighboring campers. "Each site was spacious and not jammed up against other sites. It is very family oriented with plenty of friendly campers," shares Nancy R. from O'Bannon Woods State Park.
Seasonal camping opportunities: The area transforms throughout the year with unique experiences each season. "We went to Lake Rudolph Campground for their Halloweekends and it is a one of a kind experience. They have so many activities for the kids such as hayrides, a DJ, pumpkin carving, and so many other things throughout the day!" reports Ashley D.
Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention the well-maintained bathrooms and shower houses at local glamping sites. "The bathrooms were very clean, even the vault toilets, and had the best TP in them. The hosts were very nice and friendly," notes Debra W. from Indian-Celina Recreation Area.
What You Should Know
Campsite selection matters: Different loops and camping areas offer varying experiences. "If you're the kind who wanna socialize or in a large group who needs a campground within eyeshot, south loop is more for your taste. There's lots of RVs parked, people chatting, laid back drinking beer just having a good time!" explains Rica Z. from North Face Loop.
Tick prevention essential: Multiple reviewers mention tick issues, particularly in wooded areas. "We enjoyed the trails which is where we spent most of our time, sight seeing and communing with the crazy number of ticks present and hitching rides," warns Shelly S. about Hoosier National Forest South Slope Loop Campground.
Shuttle service information: Transportation to Holiday World is available but varies by location. "We love coming here annually for Mother's Day weekend. This campground has a lot to offer but is focused for seasonal camping. A lot of amenities and the town is fun to sight see," mentions Aaron W. from Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph.
Tips for Camping with Families
Kid-friendly activities: Several parks offer special attractions designed for children. "Park features playground, paved biking and walking trails, disc golf, plenty of shade, lake with boat dock (non-motorized boats only), bath house, and dump station," shares Chelsea B. from Vastwood Co Park.
Unique animal encounters: Some glamping locations offer wildlife experiences. "There is a small petting zoo at the park and in the morning they let the animals out to feed on the grass. So expect to see them in the campground. Harmless and unique," notes Keith P. from Warrick County Park.
Entertainment options beyond water: Look for campgrounds with additional activities for rainy days. "Lake Rudolph is a fun park to visit, you can rent rvs if you don't have your own camper. They also have golf cart rental if you want to cruise around the park. Holiday world is also down the road," suggests Jennifer J.
Tips from RVers
Site layout considerations: RV sites vary significantly across the region's glamping options. "The sites have an asphalt pad that are mostly level. 50,30,20 amp service in one box. There was no water at the site though. Throughout the campground are potable water spigots that you can hook up to and add water to your tank," explains Derek J. from Miles Landing Campground.
Proximity to supplies: Some locations are more isolated than others. "We recently stayed here for the Labor Day weekend. It was a smaller camp ground but that made it very quiet. The sites were very spacious and far enough apart that you had room to spread out," mentions Jacinda L. about Miles Landing Campground.
Rental options available: For those without their own equipment, many glamping sites offer rental accommodations. "Perfect for families. Lots to do, clean facilities, friendly staff. We will be back!" comments Rachel M. about Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph.
