Best RV Parks & Resorts near Thebes, IL

Several RV campgrounds serve the Thebes, Illinois area, with options spanning from basic to full-service facilities. Cape Camping & RV Park in Cape Girardeau provides full hookups including 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on gravel sites that accommodate larger rigs. The Landing Point RV Park, also in Cape Girardeau, offers year-round access with pull-through sites suitable for big rigs. "Sites are pretty much gravel and dirt. At $40 per night, the price felt a bit high for the amenities offered," one camper shared about a nearby facility. Horseshoe Lake Alexander County campground in Miller City features electric hookups, drinking water, and accommodates RVs with both 30-amp service and sanitary dump facilities.

Full hookup availability varies significantly between parks, with Hinton RV Park in Sikeston offering 50-amp service, water hookups, and sewer connections for overnight travelers. Many campgrounds in the region require some leveling due to uneven terrain. According to feedback on The Dyrt, "Our sites both times were in the gravel pull-through area, which seems to be intended for short stays. Even though we were close to the neighbors the sites are angled, so we had a beautiful view." Interstate noise affects some properties, particularly those situated along I-57. Most RV parks welcome pets but maintain specific pet areas or restrictions. Cell service strength fluctuates throughout the region, with Verizon generally providing more consistent coverage than other carriers. Dump stations are available at most established campgrounds, though not all sites offer sewer hookups at individual spots.

    Magnolia Campground & Country Store

    Highlights

    🌳 Highlights

Welcome & Hospitality Newly opened in October 2020 and family-run by Rick & Glenda Wilson, guests often highlight their warm, friendly service . One reviewer said:

    > “Owners and staff all super friendly, engaging and kind.”

Campground Quality Features include full hookups (30/50 amp, water, sewer), gravel pull-through sites for big rigs (up to ~43 ft), free WiFi, dump station, propane fill, fire pits, picnic tables, laundry, and a shower house .

On‑site Country Store & Deli A notable perk is the store with fresh deli items and daily lunch specials—particularly Friday catfish dinners—plus occasional breakfast on Saturdays .

    ⭐ Guest Reviews Snapshot

    Mick & Karla (30 Mar 2025)

Booked same-day, chose pull-through site, enjoyed 40 psi water, decent WiFi/cell service.

Friendly staff and solid amenities, though gravel/dirt sites got dusty or muddy depending on weather.

Road noise from nearby I‑57 noted. Felt $40/night was a bit high.

    CatTrailzz (24 Jul 2024)

Quiet despite being near the freeway. Loves the deli (noting salads and pulled pork).

    Clean facilities, new shower room.

    Plans to stay again.

    QueenMartell (16 Mar 2024)

    Friendly check-in, excellent service.

Accommodated a 43 ft fifth wheel with ease.

Highly recommends, loves the Friday catfish.

Other reviewers (Kitty, Kyla D, Tergeo)

Consistently mention friendly owners, clean/gravel sites, good common areas, and a strong likelihood to return .

    Pros & Cons

    👍 Pros 👎 Cons

Warm, personal service Sites are gravel/dirt—can be dusty or muddy Full hookups and big‑rig friendly Road noise from I‑57 On-site deli with fresh food & catfish dinners Wi-Fi and cell coverage are serviceable but not exceptional Clean shower/laundry facilities Price (~$39–40/night) might be a bit high for basic amenities

    Summary

Magnolia Campground is a great overnight or short-term stop if you’re looking for friendly hospitality, solid basic RV hookups, and the novelty of a country store with good food in southeast Missouri. It’s particularly suited for large RVs, travelers who enjoy a welcoming vibe, and those who appreciate a Friday catfish dinner. It’s not a destination resort, so if you're seeking plush amenities or a quiet nature getaway, plan accordingly.

    Bottom Line

If you're rolling through with an RV and want a hassle-free, friendly, quick stay with full hookups and good food, Magnolia is a solid choice. For longer stays, be prepared for gravel underfoot and some road noise—but clean facilities and warm hosts might still make it worth it.

    Magnolia Campground & Country Store

    Very Good Customer Service

This review is based on a short stay rather than a destination campground (CG) experience. We found this CG while looking for options near Sikeston, MO, and decided to try it based on positive online reviews. Booking was easy with a same-day reservation, and we received an email with directions, the WiFi password, and instructions to pick any site between 8 and 13, designated for big rigs and short-term stays, as most of the other sites were occupied by longer-term residents. We chose pull-through site #11 with full hookups (FHU) due to its convenient angle. All of the sites, including the shorter back-ins, offer FHU. Our site accommodated our 40’ fifth wheel and F450 truck comfortably, with centrally located utilities and 40 psi water pressure. The WiFi was sufficient for checking emails and general browsing, while cell service was limited to 1 bar on Verizon and 3 bars on T-Mobile. With few trees, satellite reception wouldn’t be an issue. During our stay, we were the only short-term guests. Some sites had picnic tables and fire pits, and while ours did not, we could have moved them if desired. The CG has a nice shower house and laundry facility, but the real draw is the country store, which operates more like a restaurant. The owner and staff were exceptionally friendly, and the food was good. The sites are pretty much gravel and dirt. At $40 per night, the price felt a bit high for the amenities offered. We were there during dusty conditions, and friends came through a week later in the rain, and the CG was muddy. Along with the country store with a restaurant, there’s a dump station, plus they sell ice and propane. Being located along a frontage road off I-57, road noise was noticeable. Overall, we had a pleasant overnight stay and appreciated their hospitality.

    Riverview Campground

    Beautiful Views

Riverview campground is a clean, quiet, family friendly campground. It overlooks the Ohio River and provides amazing views at sunset. The stargazing is also great. There are 30 amp and 50 amp sites with water, and a dump station is on site. Firewood is also provided. This was the perfect place to spend the weekend!

    Cypress Creek RV Park

    Great for the Night

If you are traveling on I 57 or I 55 this is a great over night stay.  Beautiful Campground but not to many amenities.  IT does have the best internet we have had in 3 months.  Love the trees and nice level sites.  It has a few run down long term campers, but they don't over run the place.

    Redman Creek Recreation Area

    Best place to camp

This is a Army Corps of Engineers campground. We love it because it is quite and peaceful. The sites are well maintained with asphalted pads, fire pit, grill, camp light pole and picnic table. Best of all it is full hook up. Redman West traditionally has older campers (sites 1-40)but Redman east usually has more kids (sites 41-109) (currently under remodel 2023 season). Both sides are family friendly. We camp Redman West March to November.

    Fern Lake Campground

    Clean, close to Highway

We stopped here overnight twice because it was close to the highway and had pull-through sites to accommodate our 43’ fifth wheel. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was, and you couldn’t even hear the Highway. Our sites both times were in the gravel pull-through area, which seems to be intended for short stays. Even though we were close to the neighbors the sites are angled, so we had a beautiful view of a grassy area with trees out our living room windows. The longer stay sites had gravel and then grass in between the sites, and views of a lake. Very serene, pretty and clean campground.

    Shawnee Forest Campground

    EV Car Camping

I’m a novice car camper, sleeping in my Tesla Model 3. This campground is quiet and clean. The host is very friendly and knowledgeable. Each site has 50 amp electric service (so you can charge your EV with a NEMA 14-50 plug), fresh water, fire pits, and picnic tables. A nice stop to visit the Shawnee National Forest.

    Redman Creek Recreation Area

Nice COE park, but not as nice as some others

On the smaller side for COE parks, and generally pretty nice. Not many real level sites. Bring plenty of blocks. Some sites are pretty close to each other. Water & electric at sites, although our faucet leaked a lot. ATT & Verizon both worked weakly but got out. Shower house was clean, used, but clean. Roads were easy to navigate & several big rigs had no issues. Right off the hiway, so easy in & out.

    Fern Lake Campground

    Camping Quilter

Located on the edge of Paducah, Kentucky this is the perfect place to stay if you are going to the quilt shows or visiting the National Quilt Museum. Supplies are just walking distance away and there is a good 24 hour restaurant across the street.

There are shady pull through sites with full hook ups or tent sites. There is a small stocked lake to fish in. The bathrooms are clean, as is the entire well maintained park.

Guide to Thebes

RV campgrounds near Thebes, Illinois offer a range of seasonal experiences with varied terrain from the Mississippi River floodplains to wooded areas. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F, while winters can drop below freezing. Many campgrounds remain open year-round, though water systems at some parks are winterized from November through March.

What to do

Fishing access points: Horseshoe Lake Alexander County campground provides direct access to cypress-lined waters. "Gorgeous place big beautiful cypress and tupelo trees. Shaded spots and laid back atmosphere," notes one camper at Horseshoe Lake Alexander County.

Walking trails: Several RV parks feature connected trail systems. Perryville RV Resort includes a hiking path around the lake, with one visitor noting, "Campground has a trail to a hike around lake. Playground was fun and safe. Lake for fishing."

Local exploration: The region offers historical sites within driving distance. "There is not much around in the way of stores. We managed to find one small grocery store. The town of Cairo is a ghost town but Ft. Defiance is worth seeing," shares a camper about their stay at Horseshoe Lake.

What campers like

Shade coverage: The mature trees at Perryville RV Resort By Rjourney provide natural cooling. "Very well kept and clean campground. Great big trees, very shaded, great store," mentions one reviewer who appreciated the environment.

Concrete pads: The Landing Point RV Park features level sites for easier setup. "Large sites with level concrete. Staff is helpful and friendly," reports a visitor appreciating the stability.

Quiet atmosphere: Many campers value the peaceful settings. "Beautiful and peaceful. We had a quiet RV site with electric. Many of the sites also have water but not ours. Shaded area," writes a reviewer about The Landing Point RV Park.

What you should know

Highway noise levels: Interstate proximity affects several Thebes area campgrounds. A Perryville camper notes: "The highway is also extremely close and can be heard at all times," while another mentions it's "right off from the interstate, so there is some noise."

Water fluctuations: Seasonal changes impact water availability. "In late October there was no water, but several sites have full hookups," reports a camper at Horseshoe Lake Alexander County.

Site spacing variations: Campgrounds differ in how tightly packed sites are. "Spots are intermingled in the trees and it is spectacular in the morning," writes one visitor about Perryville Campground, while another mentions, "Spots are tight (wouldn't want to be here when the park is full)."

Tips for camping with families

Recreational amenities: Some campgrounds offer kid-friendly features. "The pool is better than most hotels and the giant trampoline looked like it would be my daughters favorite thing if she were with us," notes a camper at Perryville.

Short-term vs. long-term: Consider the campground's primary audience. At Cape Camping & RV Park, a camper observed: "This is a campground that is not great for camping. The sites are close together, no shade, mostly cement. If you want a place to get off the highway for the night and then jump back on... this is for you."

Pet-friendly spaces: Many Thebes area RV parks have designated pet areas. The Landing Point RV Park was noted for having "a nice fenced in area for dogs to run and play at" by one reviewer who appreciated this amenity.

Tips from RVers

Cellular service quality: Connection strength varies between providers. At Hinton RV Park, visitors report "WiFi was way above normal. We got 3 bars each on Verizon and AT&T," making it suitable for digital nomads.

Access considerations: Some parks offer easier navigation than others. "Easy to find just off the interstate. Nice level sites, friendly staff," shares one RVer about Hinton RV Park.

Overnight vs. destination: Evaluate parks based on your travel needs. A Cape Camping visitor advises: "Nice place to pull off I-55 and rest, or stay if you are in the area for sports or other events. Not alot of recreation."
