    McKay's Bend Recreation Site

So good you’ll want to stay longer

DIRECTIONS: 18 miles east of Lewiston, Idaho at mile post 18.6 on U.S. Highway 12

Flat, quiet, clean, and cheap. 15 RV sites and 3 tent sites. Full hookup, clean and large shower rooms and restrooms.

Camp hosts are great caretakers and quick to greet new guests.

Plenty of trees for shade, easy drivable path down to the river, nice local neighborhood to stroll through. BBQ stands at each site and two large community fire pits. Paved site for RV (any size), concrete pad with table. 2 bars cell signal.

Check the pics for accepted passes that drop the prices by 1/2.

At 18 dollars I was skeptical before l arrived. Getting everything for 9 dollars is unbelievable but true.

    Hells Canyon Resort

    Right on the river

Campground right on the river and surrounded by businesses but no noise issues.

Pull through site was paved and level. You do need a water pressure regulator. Office does suggest the route to take for easier pull in. Some of the long term campers have multiple cars and large add-ons, so was tricky getting out.

Showers were nice and plenty of room. Sign on indoor pool stated it was closed.

Check in was easy, they do offer food items for sale but the beverage coolers were pretty sparse.

Premier RV Resort at Granite Lake

    Nice Weekend Stay

Very friendly staff that keeps the facilities clean. Full hookups with lots of pull through spaces if needed. We fully utilized the bike path along the river each day for nice long rides into Idaho and back to Washington. Would stay again.

Premier RV Resort at Granite Lake

Quiet, Clean, well maintained RV Campground

This is an all paved rv campground on the Snake River and bordering Lewiston, ID. It has all the amenities of the Premier RV Resort affiliation. It has all the hook-ups and all sites are well manicured. A lot of the sites have longer term rv's from seasonal workers and such, it is not like a long term trailer park though. The management works to make sure your needs are taken care of. There is a paved walking trail alongside the park that follows the river with pet statiions located at intervals and is maitained by the municipality. There are Snake river boat tours nearby and plenty of shopping close and throughout the community. Fishing is a big activity on the rivers.

    City of Bovill RV Park

Looking for a all season RV Park? This is your spot! Bring the marshmallows too!

This is an all season RV Park. There’s a nice patch of grass in the center during warm months.

Sometimes we have a hard time finding all season parks.

They do allow pets! They have all the amenities you hope a RV Park has. We came up here to gem hunt. But I know other forms of hunting are also popular here 😉.

You also don’t loose the camping feels here. How? Fire rings.

Camping is just not the same without the ability to have a fire. Even when camping in an RV for local attractions over the “camping experience” it’s always a HUGE plus (to me anyways) to be able to watch flames for a few hours while having a few drinks.

Also visit the Pie Safe! You won’t regret it.

    Fields Spring State Park Campground

    Small, quiet state park

We dreaded dealing with crowds over the 4th of July weekend and back in March, this was one of the few state parks where I could get reservations in this area. Keep in mind that "this area" is about 40 minutes from Clarkston, the nearest town so make sure you stock up and don't count on cell service (except for the top of Puffer Butte!) The campground is small - only 20 sites but even on July 3, there were still a handful of empty sites. It was very quiet. Some sites are pull through and some are larger than others (mostly the ones on the outside of the loop) Site 16 was large and could accommodate several vehicles and tents. One restroom that was very clean with my three necessities: soap, hand dryers, and garbage. Coin-operated shower but make sure you have quarters because there is not always a staff person to give you change. Firewood is on the honor system at $5 per bundle. There is an actual spring that the park is named for but it was still turned off (didn't know you could turn a spring on/off?) There are teepees, cabins, and shelters and it appears to be a popular place in the winter for cross country skiing and tubing. The 2+ mile roundtrip hike to the Puffer Butte is a must as the three state view (WA, ID, OR) is sweeping and gorgeous. Other than that, we enjoyed a quiet two nights at this state park

    Winchester Lake State Park Campground

    Great Park, Great Fishing

We pulled our 40ft RV up here and had a great time! Not full hookups but lots of fishing we caught: blue gill, trout, bass, crappie, perch, cat fish and had a small Tiger Muskie on the line but lost it. We were there for two weeks and they did have electricity and water hookups just no dump so we showered and used the bathroom facilities which were very well kept! So we didn’t mind. There is a dump station just in town at the gas station there. Overall great experience and nice to be off the grid for a bit!

Premier RV Resort at Granite Lake

Clean, well-run RV place in a small city

This “RV resort” is within the city of Clarkston and a stone’s throw from a Costco, a WalMart and an Albertson’s. It’s highly manicured and very clean. Staff members are on top of every little thing, friendly and respectful. The waterfront sites overlook Granite Lake, a reservoir on the Snake River. There’s not a whole heck of a lot to do in Clarkston and environs, but it’s a super friendly city and the RV resort is pretty pleasant, featuring a dog park, lots of well-tended lawns, shared propane fire pits and grills and sparkling restrooms.

What to do

Riverfront biking trails: Premier RV Resort at Granite Lake features access to paved biking paths along the Snake River. "Great biking trails and was able to easily bike to and from work. Definitely would recommend," notes one camper at Premier RV Resort.

Salmon River views: Swiftwater RV Park provides waterfront camping along the scenic Salmon River. A visitor explains, "Surprising Gem Right On The Salmon River... quiet and shaded spot right overlooking the Salmon River (we were in #18) with water and power hookup and a very clean bathroom, shower, washer & drier, ice, grill & outdoor area to hang out."

Explore local cities: Many RV parks offer convenient access to nearby towns. From Bear Den RV Resort, "Campground is located a mile outside of town. Friendly staff and nicely maintained campground. There are a few small trees but mostly in the sun. Sites are close together."

What campers like

Quiet locations: Despite urban proximity, some parks maintain peaceful surroundings. A visitor to Premier RV Resort shared, "Enjoyed the quiet of the park as it is tucked away behind Costco with no busy roads around it. Beautiful riverfront spots."

Clean facilities: Swiftwater RV Park receives praise for exceptional cleanliness. One camper states, "Cleanest bathrooms and showers I have ever been in at a park I think. I was so thankful for their help and kindness since we were in tents and it could have potentially been a very miserable night for us but it was not."

Convenient road access: Seubert RV Park offers straightforward highway access for travelers. "Just a tiny bit off the highway, easy to access pull-through sites, and very affordable! Super clean and well kept," reports a Seubert RV Park & Guesthouse visitor.

What you should know

Hookup variations: RV parks near Winchester provide different utility connections. At Clearwater River Casino RV Park, a recent visitor noted, "We paid $30 for 1 night, full hook-ups, pool, some shade, bathroom/shower, and walking distance to the casino."

Site layouts affect pet areas: Some parks have limitations for pet owners. A camper at Clearwater River Casino RV Park observed, "Easy access RV park. All paved parking spots and easy to access! Only downside is having to walk the dogs across the parking lot to go to the bathroom in the grass, but it's nice to have the grass!"

Age restrictions exist: Some rv parks in the Winchester region maintain adult-focused environments. A Hillview RV Park visitor warned, "The manager does NOT allow kids although this is not advertised or posted anywhere! We were lucky to have only made contact with the assistants which were great but the manager not so much!"

Tips for camping with families

Seek parks with recreational amenities: Some parks offer family-friendly facilities. According to a Swiftwater RV Park visitor, "The owners are on site and went way out of their way to make us comfortable. They were very friendly and welcoming and the whole place was just neat as a pin and very cute."

Consider fairground options: Latah County Fairgrounds provides basic RV camping with playground access. A camper mentions, "There is a nice playground and it's walking distance from Safeway. If your here to see a game or experience a local event, then it will suit your needs."

Look for special events: Some parks create activities specifically for families. One Premier RV Resort visitor shared, "The owners have fun with the residents... 'Sweet Saturday' with homemade goodies in the office and then Sunday Sundaes for $1 you can have an ice cream sundae with toppings in the office! The kids LOVED it!"

Tips from RVers

Check Wi-Fi reliability: Connectivity varies widely across the region's RV parks. A Bear Den RV Resort visitor mentioned, "The park and facilities are extremely clean and have good amenities, like laundry and showers. Sunsets are great from this location! On the highway, but not much road noise. The WiFi and cell service was not the best."

Consider noise factors: Highway and railway proximity affects some parks. At Clearwater Crossing RV Park, a camper warns, "Well, if you like to camp between the railroad tracks and highway, this is the spot for you! Redeeming quality—river runs right next to parking spots for your RV."

Verify after-hours procedures: Some parks lack clear protocols for late arrivals. A Bear Den visitor noted, "I would've rated it a five, but the office was closed the entire time and there were no instructions left for us with the code to the clubhouse and laundry, which we wanted to use."
