Best Cabin Camping near Malad City, ID

Malad Summit Guard Station offers rustic cabins 42 miles southeast of Malad City, providing basic accommodations with electric hookups, toilets, and drinking water. The cabin requires advance reservation and provides proximity to outdoor recreation. "This cabin needs to be reserved first and foremost. It is close to the reservoir if you need to cool off and there is also the creek which runs right next to it," notes a visitor. The guard station features picnic areas and is accessible via drive-in, though larger vehicles may face challenges navigating the narrow access road.

Downata Hot Springs in nearby Downey provides several cabin options ranging from small units for couples to larger family accommodations with lofts. The cabins include private bathrooms, microwaves, and some offer full kitchens. Most cabins at Downata Hot Springs are pet-friendly and include amenities like television and DVD players. A recent review noted, "We rented a cabin three times this last winter. Great little cabins with bathrooms the hot pools were 100 feet away and a heated swimming pool." Reservations are essential, particularly during peak summer months when the hot springs and water slides attract families.

Cabin guests should verify what supplies are included with their rental. The smaller cabins typically offer limited kitchen facilities—microwaves and coffee makers—while larger units may include full kitchens with basic cookware. Most provide beds with mattresses, but visitors should bring their own bedding, pillows, and towels. Several campgrounds with cabins operate seasonally between April and October, though some like Cub River Lodge & RV Park remain open year-round. On-site markets at Downata Hot Springs and several KOA locations stock basic provisions, firewood, and snacks, eliminating the need to bring all supplies from home.

    Downata Hot Springs

Great place to stay in the winter

Cold winter months and you need to get away? Wow we rented a cabin three times this last winter. Great little cabins with bathrooms the hot pools were 100 feet away and a heated swimming pool. In the summer time the pool is nice and cold and there are water slides. There is RV and tent sites as well as group sites and 3 small cabins, 3 medium cabins and three large cabins/houses. They also have several yurts. This year they also have covered wagons you can stay in(cute idea on a tent cabin). The staff is friendly and courteous. There is a small cafe and store. There is a restaurant that has a great sirloin dinner if you call ahead to make dinner reservations. Over all a great place to camp summer or winter.

    Sun Outdoors Garden City Utah

    On the beach!

This campground seems like it is one of the closer campgrounds to the water. It's pet-friendly, has full hookups, picnic tables, and wifi. The nice thing about this campground is it does have a beach as well as water/lake access. Not as many amenities as the KOA (Bear Lake/Marina Side).

The bathhouse was very clean. Did seem less busy than the KOA (Bear Lake/Marina Side).

    Conestoga Ranch

    Total Glamping experience

Conestoga Ranch is a destination that gives luxury a down home feel.

Located in Garden City, Utah on the beautiful Bear Lake Conestoga Ranch offers luxury tents and a chance to stay in a covered wagon.

I stayed in a larger, more luxurious site because my wife and I were on our Anniversary weekend.

The tent had a king bed, shower, and deep claw foot tub. The decor is charmingly rustic with log furnishings and tin and raw pipe for plumbing and accessories, this is all intentional and makes the experience even better.

Onsite, there are clean shower rooms and rest rooms, laundry facilities, an arcade, and a very fine restaurant and lounge.

Upon check in, you park by the office and a attendant takes you and your gear up to your site, later on a fire concierge will come and start your fire as you relax and take in all the beauty around you.

Bear Lake offers so much opportunity for recreation, from boating, to side x side rentals to beaches, mountain biking and some shopping.

This luxury comes at a price...a pretty steep price for camping, rates vary, but staying before memorial day gave us the better rate.

I do think that the price is worth the wonderful experiences that we had at this fun little place.

    Have a great time.

    Downata Hot Springs

    2nd Cabin Only Bigger

We had returned but had got a cabin with a loft. There are only 3 loft cabins. They are super cozy, and come with a full kitchen. The loft above had 2 twin beds, the main floor had a full size bed, futon, closet, full kitchen and a bathroom with both shower and tub. Close walking distance to the hot pools and restaurant. The 3 of us were comfortable and not felt like we were in a tiny space.

    Blacksmith Fork Guard Station

    Everything you need is there!

We have stayed at this campsite for a few years in a row and plan to keep coming back. The guard station comes fully equipped with cooking utensils and dishes and cleaning supplies. It also includes a propane refrigerator and stove. There are plenty of hiking and biking trails nearby. It does get busy, and you do hear the ATVs going up and down the road all day. There is also a river/stream that runs behind the cabin that is great for fishing. The cabin itself is clean and well maintained. Its the perfect mix of outdoors (no running water, no wi-fi) with some comforts with the stove and beds in the cabin. Great for families who want a little less remote camping experience.

    Family fun

The people, bathrooms, and showers are all awesome. There is some road noise but not more than you’d get anywhere else. LOTS of shade, right next to the river, pet friendly, and cabins are also able to be rented! Would definitely come here again.

    Hyrum State Park Campground

    Small peaceful state park

We love state parks and decided to try Hyrum Stare Park for a couple of nights as we were heading south. This state park is basically in the middle of a neighborhood of a small community. Locals seem to love it but it’s not crowded at all.. It’s right on a small lake with a boat ramp and a small beach. The campground is small… about 8 or 9 sites with w/e and about a dozen sites with dry camping. All the sites are paved (even the dry camping sites) and level. Grassy and shady on most sites. Two bathhouses and a dump on site. Picnic tables and fire rings at each site. They also have a couple of cabins available. No store but there is a few things close by to get ice and a few things. It is totally fenced and gated. The gates close at 10pm and open at 6am. Very peaceful and enjoyable!

    Egan Basin Guard Station

    Peaceful, Remote and Beautiful

For $30 a night this camping site is a real deal! The site is well maintained, and the A-frame cabin on the site was perfect for our family of 5. The cabin and campsite has no electricity and no water, so you need to pack it all in. Its nice to have a chance to get away from technology and enjoy the outdoors. It is about an hour + to get somewhere where you can get water or other supplies, so you will need to plan accordingly.

Pros: remote, peaceful, quiet. Some nice trails nearby for hiking and mountain biking and ATVs. Also there is a stream that runs along the road to the cabin that is available for fishing. Also, although there are other campsites along the road to the guard station, once at the cabin (about 1/4 off the main forest road), you don't even know there are other people around.

Cons: When we were there LOTS of mosquitos, the forest service road to the guard station gate is a little rough in some places. For those without AWD or 4WD might have a hard time in places.

    Lava Hot Springs East KOA

T1 Campsite is A Hidden Oasis

We had scouted T1 campsite at the KOA Holiday in Lava Hot Springs. This campground runs along the creek and is directly across from Mary’s Campground. Site T1 is for a family of 2 maybe 3 but it’s large enough for 2 medium size tents and 1 large one and our canopy. The site itself is surrounded by water and even has a small water fall that you could sit in as if it were a small hot tub size. This KOA is clean and friendly staff. They do have a store for some basic supplies and sell firewood. Not only are there tent sites but also have RV sites, cabins camp and large family size cabins. They have bathrooms/showers and a large playground for young kids. This KOA is within walking distance to Lava Hot Springs Main Street which has places to eat, hot pools, stores, ice cream place and more. Definitely would stay at this KOA again and again.
