Savannah South KOA's fenced dog park provides pets with a dedicated exercise area while camping in Richmond Hill. The campground welcomes pets on leash at all times, with sites ranging from tent spaces to full-hookup RV sites and cabins. Fort McAllister State Park Campground and Skidaway Island State Park also accommodate pets in all accommodation types, including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and yurts. Most campgrounds enforce standard leash requirements, with designated pet areas for off-leash play. The sandy dog park at Savannah South KOA needs maintenance, as some visitors note their dogs avoid retrieving toys due to the loose, airy dirt coating everything.

River's End Campground & RV Park

      Week at the beach

Great camping area with dog parks close by. The campground is a little narrow if you are wide but all in all enough room to get through. All the amenities were clean and well kept. The local cat population is standoffish except ol 3 legs he was kind and loved the petting. The grounds are only a few blocks from the beach and it's beautiful! Had no problems here at all, everyone was so friendly!

      Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks

      More greed than hospitality

My biggest regret is that I didn't read the reviews before booking. I'm usually very tolerant of small issues and I feel that hospitality goes a long way. Unfortunately, the issues weren't small and the hospitality was non-existent. But when we arrived at Spacious Skies RV park in Savannah we were made to feel unwelcome from the very beginning. We arrived at 11:15 am and were told we could only enter the park after 12:00pm after paying a$10 early check in fee. There were several empty sites but we were refused entry and told to go away and come back after noon. Our site#67 was a very small dirt and gravel spot just steps away from a busy highway. Honestly, we would have been better off at an interstate rest area. This is consistent with some of the reviews I've seen on their own website. Here's a summary of what I found: REVIEWS* Unreasonable refund policies.* Little or no flexibility for early or late check-ins* Some guests refused check-in after 8pm, even in cases out of their control, such as heavy traffic. Don't bother calling, they offer no exceptions.* Excessive fees and rules* Claims of racism* No sleeping in hammocks, even on a freestanding frame* Small, dirty and noisy sites too close to the highway.*Cockroaches*Turned away because RVs were not"factory made"*Dirty facilities. POLICIES AND FEES:* No check-in before noon, or after 8pm.(This is enforced, but not on the agreement you must docusign upon booking)* For an extra fee($10?) you can"lock-in" your chosen site.*$10 fee for guests who may wish to visit.*$10 fee for fishing.*$25 per pet per reservation* Retractable leashes MUST be less than 6 feet in length.* Pets must have a tag on their collar with the owner's phone number.* Golf carts(electric only) must be registered and inspected. Factory made golf carts only.* Prohibited Items: include, but are not limited to, flags, stickers, garden displays or site decor that are political in nature...* Apparently, there are some similar restrictions on speech. But they do encourage"...flags, stickers, garden displays or site decor that are meant to celebrate personal identity in a non-aggressive manner."* When you sign the agreement, you're also agreeing to allow them to use your photo in their advertisements. As long as they can extract as much money from you as possible, they will tolerate your presence. Due to their draconian refund policies, we wound up forfeiting all of the money we paid. In the end I don't regret it. We went about a mile down the road to Creekfire RV park where we were warmly greeted and immediately given a last-minute reservation for a lakeside spot with a wonderful view. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy all of their amenities, such a pool with a lazy river and a lakeside restaurant. There's also a KOA in Richmond Hill just a few miles to the south with friendly staff, lakeside sites and several restaurants.

      Stay Here

This is by far the best camp ground I have ever stayed at. Clean and spacious sites. The Bath house and private shower area were 5-star hotel quality. Great dog park very clean with separate areas for large and small pets. The pool, lazy river, Tiki Bar and restaurant area was top quality, providing plenty of lounge chairs, tables/w umbrellas, and free pool floats for the lazy river experience. The are plenty cabana setups throughout the pool complex. They were quite expensive and frankly mostly empty for the week I stayed there.(August). Food was outstanding and consistent throughout our stay. My family highly recommends a stay. We will be back.

Best of the best of everything!

This place has it all & it’s all amazing!! First of all, ALL of the staff are so incredibly kind & hospitable. 2nd, the sites are very large & have every hookup you could want including cable. The park is surrounded by a beautiful walking trail that cuts thru the woods & several areas of the campground. There’s a great, big dog park & an indoor, air conditioned dog spa with several really nice dog wash stationed with temp controlled water, not just cold. The bars are great, yummy drinks & great food. The pool….so nice. There’s a big spray fountain & an awesome lazy river. There’s also a tiki bar at the pool & you can rent cabanas. The clubhouse shop has everything you could ever want & such cute souvenirs. Stuff for the pets too. Most sites are woods views but one area has great water & golf course views. Oh, the golf course, stunning!! I’m sure I’m missing so many things but all I can say is I booked my next visit on the 1st day I was here. 10/10

      Lake Jasper RV Park

      Loved it!!!

We stayed here for two nights on our way back home from Florida to Virginia. We had a pull thru full hookup gravel site. Our two dogs had a blast at the dog park! It is located next to a city park with walking trails. And only a short 30 min drive to Savannah. Will stay again! Clean, well kept, friendly. Close to freeway.

    Guide to Richmond Hill

Fort McAllister State Park Campground serves as a hub for pet-friendly camping near Richmond Hill, Georgia, with sites located along the Ogeechee River. The campground sits approximately 20 minutes southwest of Savannah in a coastal environment characterized by maritime forests, salt marshes, and historic Civil War earthworks. Winter temperatures typically range from 40-60°F while summer months can reach 90°F with high humidity, creating unique considerations for campers with pets.

    What to do

Historical exploration: Fort McAllister State Park Campground offers access to a Civil War-era earthen fort with guided tours. "The Visitor Center was really interesting and the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful," notes one camper. The fort played a significant role during the Civil War as the final battle in General Sherman's March to the Sea.

Fishing opportunities: CreekFire RV Resort provides a stocked lake for fishing. "Has a lake with fishing. Beautiful pool area," reports one visitor. The resort is located about 15 minutes from Richmond Hill and permits pets throughout the property.

Nature trails: Skidaway Island State Park Campground features several walking paths through maritime forest. "Lots of great hiking within walking distance of the campsite," mentions a reviewer. The trails wind through oak forests draped with Spanish moss and over salt marshes with observation platforms.

    What campers like

Spacious campsites: Fort McAllister campers appreciate the room to spread out. "The sites were spacious and easy to maneuver around. Bathroom and showers were very clean and well kept," reports one visitor. Most sites provide enough distance between neighbors for privacy.

Clean facilities: Red Gate Farms - RV Resort maintains well-kept grounds and amenities. "The campground is quiet and everything is well taken care of. We enjoyed visiting the horses and goats," notes a camper. This peaceful setting creates an ideal environment for pets and their owners.

Wildlife viewing: Campers enjoy observing local animals at dog-friendly campgrounds near Richmond Hill. "Beautiful park! Great hikes. Very close to a Publix and two convenience stores. My kids loved the playground and the fort tour!!" shares a Fort McAllister visitor. Morning walks often reveal deer, various bird species, and occasionally river otters.

    What you should know

Limited shade at some sites: Several campgrounds have exposed areas with little tree cover. "The only con I have is no shade," mentions a CreekFire RV Resort visitor. Consider bringing portable shade structures during summer months when temperatures frequently exceed 85°F.

Wildlife precautions: Local wildlife can disrupt camping if proper food storage isn't practiced. "Do NOT leave food or trash unattended or they will ransack your campsite," warns a Fort McAllister camper about raccoons. Secure all food items in sealed containers or vehicles overnight.

Seasonal insect activity: Mosquitoes and biting flies can be problematic depending on season. "When I was here in April the flies were awful but they went away when the sun went down," reports a camper. Bring insect repellent, especially during warmer months when insects are most active.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: River's End Campground & RV Park offers recreation areas for children. "Great campground with lots of shady oaks draped in Spanish moss. Large pool and a nice laundry/shower area," shares a visitor. The campground is approximately 30 minutes from Richmond Hill on Tybee Island.

Pet-friendly beach trips: Tybee Island beaches have specific rules for dogs. "Close to beach. Many sites with shade. Could be tight for big rigs," notes a River's End camper. Dogs are allowed on certain sections of Tybee Beach before 9am and after 6pm when leashed.

Educational opportunities: Fort McAllister offers historical programs suitable for children and pets. "Great hikes. Very close to a Publix and two convenience stores. My kids loved the playground and the fort tour!!" reports a visitor. The visitor center features exhibits about coastal ecology and Civil War history.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose interior sites at Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks for less road noise. "Nice and quiet. We had a great shaded spot. Bathhouses were clean. Nice area to walk. Only draw back for us was the closeness of the sites," shares a reviewer. Sites further from Highway 17 provide a quieter experience for pets.

Water hookup considerations: Water pressure varies significantly between campgrounds. "Sites are level and spacious. One thing we didn't expect, even in Savannah in December, was mosquitoes," notes a Fort McAllister visitor. Consider using a pressure regulator when connecting to water hookups.

Reservation timing: Book well in advance for winter months. "We spent 3 days here. Gave 4 stars since we didn't use most of the things available. But laundry area is clean and works great. Nice area to camp in, level spots as well," reports a visitor to CreekFire RV Resort. The January-March period sees high occupancy with snowbirds seeking warmer winter conditions.
