Doll Mountain Campground

Beautiful mountain landscape over a calm lake, very quiet and little to no light pollution at night. Lots of trees for shade in the lots and easy access to the lake.

We stayed in a tent on the one tent-only electric site. A lot of the sites have electricity and power. People adhered to the quiet hours. The bath house is about a 5 minute walk from most of the sites, and they are clean and well-maintained (they were better than I expected). 

As for things to do, the campground is a short drive from downtown Ellijay. Within the campground, there's a boat ramp to Carters Lake, and the lake is beautiful. Most of the sites overlook the lake, although the views are partly blocked by trees. 

The sites are private and not on top of each other, which is nice. The website will say that the tent needs to be of a certain dimension to be on the wooden platform, but you can also set up the tent on the gravel area in front of the wooden platform.

We paid $24/night, with water and electricity.

Highly recommend site 25 if you enjoy seclusion (like we do). We had no neighbors on either side of us and we had an obstructed view of the lake.

The parking pads are gravel and great for campers of just about any size (ours is 25 feet), and we saw many big rigs here.

Roads are steep and a little narrow, so take your time.

Great boat ramp and clean showers/bathhouses.

AT&T phone service = 2-3 bars consistently Verizon phone service = 1-2 bars

Not much to do here except boating, but it was a great place to relax for a few days before our next stop.

I really enjoyed myself at Doll Mtn. My site #38 had no sites on either side and a nice tent platform overlooking Carters lake. The bathrooms were clean but old and right across from my site. No access to the lake is the only drawback.

Site 11 was paved and nice and level. It has a trail from site 11 down to the lake (fairly steep trail but not too bad) so I was able to carry the paddleboard down and just access the lake from there, which was nice. I just tied up my board and left it there all weekend. The lake is beautiful! There are so many mountain bike trails within 20-45 mins from this location, so we tried out several different trails. AT&T service was decent, one bar but still able to watch football.
Camp hosts are so nice, they do not sell firewood, but the host let us have some of theirs, which was so kind.

The good: Campsites are 2nd to none, perfectly level concrete pads with separate paved area for parking your vehicle. Sites have picnic table charcoal grills and fire rings as well as gravel area for any accessories or toys you bring along.

Bathouses: Clean and well maintained, showers are hot with good pressure.

Roads in the campground are impeccably maintained.

Bad/inconvenient Be 100% positive in your ability to handle your rig and you have the correct vehicle to pull your rig. This campground has severe grades and hard switch backs. Roads are smooth as glass though.

No camp store. Stock up on supplies and wood before you arrive, closest location is 25 minutes away.

After looking at all sites, we would strongly recommend sites 9-13!

We just returned from a 4 day camping trip at Doll Mountain, Carter’s Lake. We stayed at a campsite that had water and electric. However, there was a septic dump site leaving the campground. At Doll Mountain there are all types of campsites. We have a RV and the site where we stayed was overlooking Carter’s Lake. We were in walking distance to the lake, dumpsters and boat ramp. Many campers brought their boats to use while camping. My husband hiked down a short path from our campsite to the lake to fish. There is so much to do in a beautiful area. Well worth camping at Doll Mountain.

The site was really spacious. There is a nice railing around the site. The campground is really hard to navigate around. The campground is not marked well and we went past the entrance…by a decent amount. Campground said it had a laundry room, but it did not. Bathrooms were pretty old. No real privacy when showering.

Very bad hilly and winding roads. Really not suitable for a 38 foot motorhome. Small campground sign, with a name of a development on! Very confusing. They even admitted it. Tight fit on our site, with huge drop off. Beautiful site with large deck, but extremely worrisome in and out.

This campsite has clean bathrooms & clean campsites. It’s very secure and safe. There are also even hookups & water access at each site. Showers are also hot! One of our all time favorite campsites, very nice all around.

Beautiful campground. Very clean and spacious. This campground is called Doll Mountain Campground. It is a COE campground. It appears that this campground has been duplicated in The Dyrt because of the name originator used.

Located on a peninsula, you have access to the lake from almost all campsites. Some sites are on a hill so the walk to the water can be challenging. Camp sites were wooded and well spaced out. Boat ramp and trailer parking onsite.

Beautiful campground! The sites are secluded and spread out. Great for social distancing! Some sites have water access while others are on cliffs high above the water. Sites with water access are nice but others still have a nice view.

If you don't mind a little hike campsite 20 is the best you will find. It was right off the water. Don't underestimate the walk from the parking lot though it is no joke. If you are the type to bring a lot of stuff maybe choose a different number. Also there is a lot of boat activity on the water (well past midnight). Would definitely go back.

The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The bathhouses were clean and plenty of hot water for the shower. Our campsite was large with a fire ring, BBQ grill and picnic table. Also, had a lantern post. We stayed at site A which was down a steep slope but, we had a nice view of the lake and even went for a swim right from our campsite.

This place has a nice camping spot with plenty of shade.

Had a great time at Doll Mtn Campground. The sites are tucked into the trees, lots of great spots for your hammock! We stayed at a walk-in site, but were still close to a pit toilet and our car. A really nice fully functional bathhouse was just down the road. A short walk from our site we could take a trail down to Carters lake. We ended up driving about 45 to hike in a nearby park, although I think next time I go there I’d like to just stay around the lake and take in the area.

No campsites directly on the lake, it is a mountain so it’s steep terrain

We loved our time in Ellijay and this camping spot was amazing. It was right on the lake, surrounded by trees so you had a nice private area to yourself. There wasn't any other campers while we were there. The staff was very friendly, and the wildlife was beautiful. A lot of screaming red foxes though, but it was so nice there. We will definitely be back.

Second time here, and this is a great campground. Bathhouses are clean and well maintained.
