Peaceful but be prepared

This site was very peaceful right on the lake. There were trails that I had a very relaxing morning walk on. The sunrise and sunset was absolutely stunning. The bathrooms were clean. The only bad thing about these sites are that they are quite a walk for someone out of shape or carrying a heavy load of camping supplies. It's up hill from the campsite to the parking lot which gets extremely exhausting. They do have a wheelbarrow for you to use, but it's still a trek. Otherwise a very nice site.

Peaceful with nature all around

This site is so peaceful and gorgeous. The wildlife is all around you and they aren't scared to interact, though you shouldn't encourage them. Cataloochee in itself is a very fun place to visit. My 4th great grandparents are buried in the Hannah cemetery here, as well as a Hannah cabin is on site. The campsite is rustic so there are no showers, and the bathrooms are "upgraded" outhouses. Best idea would be to go in the woods because the smell is unbearable. There are a few sites you can get right on the river, and it is fun exploring through the woods where you can discover the foundations of houses that once were. The elk are a beautiful site to behold in the early mornings. Be careful out there though, a black bear walked through our site while we were fixing dinner. Didn't bother us, but it was a nice little scare.

Beautiful area and fun campground

This was our first camping trip and we loved it. The site we were at was right behind the volleyball net field so we were able to play badminton as much as we wanted. The creek was so soothing, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only things we weren't big on were how close the sites were to each other, (which is normal at a lot of camp sites, just not our cup of tea), and there was a group of young adults that showed up the last two nights we were there and they were extremely loud. Them and their kids were screaming and playing music until around 3am. Otherwise it was a very fun experience. They also have a small store with some supplies and firewood on site. There are so many great places to visit around this campground, it is in a great location. We went to Waterrock Knob for the day and it was a really awesome hike that led to a great view. We also took a trip over to tube on the Tuckasegee River and that was a blast.

Best Camping Spot

We loved our time in Ellijay and this camping spot was amazing. It was right on the lake, surrounded by trees so you had a nice private area to yourself. There wasn't any other campers while we were there. The staff was very friendly, and the wildlife was beautiful. A lot of screaming red foxes though, but it was so nice there. We will definitely be back.
