Starkey Wilderness Preserve — Serenova Tract

Accessible via paved roads with gate-coded entry, this established campground within the Southwest Florida Water Management District requires advance reservations through their online system. The 17-acre Serenova Tract provides spacious tent sites that accommodate both traditional camping and hammock setups, with clean restroom facilities and picnic tables at each location.

Campers consistently note the well-spaced layout that provides privacy between sites. The preserve supports diverse terrain and multiple lakes, creating habitat for deer and wild boar that visitors regularly observe. Hiking and biking trails wind through the property, connecting to the broader trail network. Cell service remains available throughout most of the camping area.

"Sites are very spacious," notes AJ G., who appreciated the clean facilities and wildlife viewing opportunities during his stay. Many campers appreciated the spacious, quiet sites with minimal light pollution and affordable rates. Occasional complaints involved the reservation system and cabin maintenance needs.

Gorgeous Private Spot

I lucked out and stumbled upon this campground late in the afternoon on my way down the west coast.

I did have to reserve a spot online and that provides you with the gate code to access the camping area.

There were a healthy number of sites but all relatively spaced out for privacy.

Also a pit toilet. Just used it for a one night stopover but enjoyed a beautiful sunrise and sunset!

A true Floridian wonderland.

You must reserve a site with Southwest Florida Water Management by website. It is sometimes closed to hunting. There are lakes and multiple varieties of terrain.

Nice place for a quick getaway

Nice place, relatively quiet. Little light pollution. Sites are very spacious. Close and clean facilities. Saw a good bit of wildlife: deer and wild boar. Hiking and biking trials. I regular tent sites (which are also hammock friendly). Also have cabins for rent. Prices are on the lower end, $17 a night for tent sites. Only reason for the 4 start is the reservation system has to be done through the county park and rec sites.
