Not open/Seasonal only

Would be great for filters to have the ability to show dispersed areas that are closed seasonally. Got the whole way up a rough dirt road to a gate and had to do a turn around with everyone else to work our way back down the mountain and find another place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit for dispersed camping at Piney Lake?

Dispersed camping at Piney Lake typically doesn't require a specific permit, but follows standard Forest Service regulations for dispersed camping. Always practice Leave No Trace principles while camping in this area. Due to seasonal closures that may affect access, it's highly recommended to contact the local Forest Service office before planning your trip to confirm current permit requirements and accessibility status.

Where is dispersed camping allowed at Piney Lake?

Dispersed camping at Piney Lake is available in designated areas accessed via a dirt road leading to the lake. However, access can be limited by seasonal closures that involve a gate blocking the road. The area offers beautiful mountain views for those who can access it when open. For specific dispersed camping locations, it's advisable to check with the local Forest Service office that manages the Piney Lake area before making the journey up the mountain road.

What amenities are available for dispersed camping near Piney Lake?

Dispersed camping near Piney Lake offers a primitive outdoor experience with minimal amenities. Don't expect facilities like restrooms, potable water, or trash services. Campers should come fully prepared with all necessary supplies including plenty of water, food, and waste disposal bags. The remote nature of this location means you'll need to pack out all trash and be self-sufficient during your stay.

What is the best time of year for dispersed camping at Piney Lake?

The best time for dispersed camping at Piney Lake is during summer and early fall when the access road is most likely to be open. The area experiences seasonal closures with a gate blocking road access during off-seasons, particularly in winter and spring when snow or muddy conditions make the rough dirt road impassable. Always verify the current status with local Forest Service officials before attempting the drive up, as the road conditions and seasonal closures can change.
