East Maroon Portal Picnic Site

White River National Forest manages this walk-in picnic site that requires hikers to carry gear from the parking area. East Maroon Portal Picnic Site sits in forested terrain with creek access, though the approach involves rough conditions that may challenge some visitors. The US Forest Service accepts reservations for this established site.

Winter camping brings solitude after evening hours, with wildlife sightings including coyotes that typically pass through without incident. Campers seeking developed amenities with vehicle access can find campgrounds near Snowmass Village or check Maroon Bells Amphitheatre just half a mile southwest.

Great Little Stop on the way to the bells

Winter Camped here right by the bench. Great little spot, saw a couple coyotes but they were just curious and walked by. Loves this location, granted it was the winter so there was no traffic after 5 pm and before 10 am
