Beautiful quiet camping

We were there during off peak and leaf peeping season. Well maintained, quiet, and peaceful site at our time of stay. Camp host was welcoming. Restrooms are what you expect from vault toilets. Some spots are better than others for travel trailers. Do your map research. We will be back.

Buffalo Springs

This site is off by itself. You don't even see the other campsites. Nice views of a meadow. There is a little road noise. I can see how the site might flood around fire pit but is a very large site.

Old style pit toilets are stinky and dirty. Trash overflowing and low on TP.

Nice campground on the edge of beautiful Southpark

This is a neat little campground that sits on the edge of beautiful Southpark in San Isabel National Forest. It's nestled in the trees, so most all of the sites are shaded. Longer rigs, beware, because most of the sites have short parking areas even though they are spaced nicely apart from each other. There a nice trails for hiking, the grounds are well-kept and it's a 15 minute drive from the little town of Fairplay.

Quiet Get-A-Way

Large, non-electric sites with picnic table and fire pit. Most sites are tucked in the trees and well shaded. If shade is important, check the campground map before booking. We went for a nice walk down the forest road towards Weston Pass. Beautiful views.

Wooded and Wonderful

Located a short drive off of 285, this campground has well dispersed sites with trees and privacy. Sites are large and offer views of nearby mountain ranges. We had site 18 which is massive, but the “pull through” was more of a problem than anticipated. There is a water pump available and access to hiking. From site 18 you can hear 285, but less so deeper into the campground. Quick drive to Fairplay, and wonderful national forest road to walk, bike or whatever down. We took wonderful walks with the dogs and found areas where additional campsites and recreation activities once existed. Site 18 is great for large groups and if you want or be away from other camps. The pull in from 285 is a bit rough, so be prepared and use GPS so you have a warning of where to turn. The road is closed January to June.

Quiet Campground Tucked in Trees

Spaces are a fair distance apart from each other, making for a quiet atmosphere. The hosts were polite and graciously delivered firewood to my campsite.

The campground is central to many hiking trails and the town of Fairplay. Cell service was spotty in the campground, but a quick jaunt to the main road got me back to full service (AT&T).

Rustic Setting

Very rustic campground. No hook ups, Vault toilets available. ATV trails nearby. Some sites have zero shade, others are well shaded - I suggest getting satellite view to find well shaded spot. Sites are not very level and we had a heck of a time getting our 26' Travel Trailer level here - so bring lots of blocks/boards. Beautiful pine and there was always a great breeze. Small campground and pretty remote so come well prepared as there is no nearby ammenities if you forget something or need medical attention.
