The campground is known for its stunning views and access to the Big Buffalo Wilderness, making it a fantastic base for hiking and exploring. Visitors have noted the spacious sites, which are perfect for both tents and RVs, although finding a level spot for a tent can be a bit tricky. As one camper put it, “Beautiful - secluded - and an entry path to the north end of Buffalo peak wilderness.”

While there are no electric hookups or showers, the campground does provide clean pit toilets and drinking water, so you can stay refreshed. Just remember to bring your own water for cooking and cleaning, as there are no water hookups available. Great place to visit!

I was really surprised how empty it was. My son and I got there on a Friday afternoon and there were only two other sites taken. By Saturday afternoon I think two more sites were taken but it was great! Didn't have to deal with online reservations and will definitely be coming here again.

Nice trail access

Campground surprisingly full on a Sunday night. Bathrooms simple but clean. No host on-site. Generator hours not followed. Hard to find a level spot for a tent but this seems typical. Many mosquitos at dusk. Good access to Big Buffalo Wilderness

Perfect plan for an unplanned day

Showed up at 3pm on Saturday and there were two other sites being used. Beautiful - secluded - and an entry path to the north end of Buffalo peak wilderness. There is a $15 honor box that is not mentioned in this campgrounds profile.

Mosquito party

You’re outside! It’s pretty! You’re away from other humans! Mostly! However, will every inch of exposed skin be an all-you-can-eat buffet to tiny monster mosquitos? Also yes. Proceed as you will.

Off The Beaten Path

After a day of jeeping I drove out to Weston Pass Campground. Beautiful campground, spacious sites. I was there on Monday so only 2 other campers. Loved it.

Big sites. Quiet. Good for last minute!

The best thing about this campground is the first-come, first-served status. With only 13 sites, this could be scary. We went on Labor Day weekend and had 6 sites to choose from on Friday, two on Saturday night and 10 on Sunday night. Good access to the Rich Creek Trail. Creek runs just yards from camp. Fire rings and tables are in good shape. Older style toilet, but it's okay.

Downside...No water, so bring your own.

And the road is a little rough coming up from Fairplay. I understand it's really rough coming from Leadville.

Rough Road...but worth it...

We arrived at Weston Pass campground around 10am on a Saturday, there are only 14 sites at this campground, but we had about 8 spots to chose from. We selected site 3, big enough for our large tent and close to the restroom, which was just a pit toilet, but was fairly clean. Our vehicle is a compact 4dr Ford Focus and it had trouble navigating the very rocky road to the campground. 11 miles from 285 and it took us almost 40 minutes to go those 11 miles. The seclusion of the campground, along with the beautiful views of Weston Pass made it worth it though.
