Best RV Parks & Resorts near Truckee, CA

Several RV parks near Truckee accommodate various motorhome sizes and travel trailer needs. Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort in Verdi offers full hookup sites with both pull-through and back-in options, operating year-round with 50-amp service. Tahoe Valley Campground in South Lake Tahoe provides electric, sewer, and water hookups on sites that can handle larger rigs. "The sites are long enough for the larger rigs, and are wide enough for all of the slides, even on both sides, and for awnings to go out," noted one camper about Sparks Marina RV Park, which features concrete pads with artificial turf areas. Bordertown Casino RV Resort has pull-through sites with full hookups, though some travelers mention challenges with the sewer connections being recessed in concrete bowls.

Mountain driving conditions affect RV access to some parks during winter months. Most RV parks in the region offer sanitary dump stations, with Sparks Marina providing on-site dumping and Washoe Lake State Park offering a convenient credit card pay system at their dump station. Cell service varies significantly by location, with AT&T coverage ranging from fair to excellent depending on proximity to major highways. A review mentioned that "internal roads are a little narrow, although not too bad, but some of the turns are rather tight" at Bordertown Casino RV Resort. Pet policies differ between facilities, with designated dog areas available at several parks including Shamrock RV Park and Bordertown. Propane refill services can be found at Silver City RV Resort and nearby gas stations, particularly important during colder seasons when overnight temperatures drop below freezing.

    Silver City RV Resort

    Convenient location with great amenities

Great location if you want to be near Costco and the capital city.  Great views of the Sierras and the Carson valley.  Sites are narrow, about twice the width of your RV, and separated by chain link fencing.  But all sites are perfectly flat, paved pull-throughs; easy in, easy out parking.  Also electric, water, sewer hookup, cable and strong wifi and cell service.  Sites are gravel, but the campground has nice grassy dog parks, clean bathrooms and laundry, and well-stocked store with propane refill.  Pool and fishing pond were closed but looked great.  We were there in early April 2021; with our binoculars we could see skiers at the top of Heavenly Mountain ski area!

    Clio's Rivers Edge RV Park

    Great RV Park

Impressed with clean sites and tall pine trees. A very clean RV park and friendly staff. Call for reservations as its popular. Some lower sites had concrete pads for the provided table. Several seasonal private modular homes among the RVer. Secured large dog area with running creek within walking distance. A number of lower RV spaces within walking pathways to creek. Most were 30 amps and upper level had some 50 amps. Lots of back ends and pull throughs. Visitors must walk to the trash designated area fenced in with recycling bins. Only one bathroom building that housed laundry room. Shower stall in women’s area .50cent for 20 minutes and 2 toilet stalls that the door hits your knees a very weird old bathroom. We enjoyed the park and plan to return again.

    Sparks Marina RV Park

    Nice place to visit

Nice level concrete pads for travel trailers, they also have pull through sites for diesel pushers. Both 30 and 50 amp sites along with cable on the pedestals, make sure you bring your own cable to connect to the pet store or they’ll charge you $4.95 for a cable cord. Large clean bathrooms, with a laundry facility that is open 24 hours a day. Upon checking in, staff will guide you to your site and assist you in backing in to your campsite or guide you through the pull through site. They explain all the rules which are typical and show you the location of your pedestal and your sewer hook ups. Wi-Fi is strong and if there are not a lot of people at the campsite you can stream to a television which is the first time in a long time. Unfortunately when the weekends come in the campsite gets full Wi-Fi signal does degrade quite significantly. The bathrooms are well-maintained and constantly cleaned, staff is very friendly and they have a small camp in store for you to pick up small supplies. If you need anything larger there is RV country which is located basically across the street at legends which is a rather large shopping mall area. There are plenty of places to go out and eat if you would like such as outback steakhouse, Olive Garden, BJ’s and of course there is a plethora of fast food restaurants available in the area as well. The campsites are flat and level and have a picnic table with artificial turf next to your campsite. I’ll just say that the sites are very cozy. Very quiet camp area staff is very friendly and helpful

    Sparks Marina RV Park

Great Urban RV Park, best in Reno Area

The Reno area is our home base, we are full time RVers in a 35 foot long fifth wheel.  We come to Sparks Marina RV Park whenever we are in town visiting family, and we typically stay for at least a month or sometimes two months.  We have visited ALL of the RV parks in the vicinity, and in Carson City to the south.  By far this is the best place in the area.  The sites are not at all outdoorsy, it is more of an urban feel, with a concrete pad and fake grass, but each site has a tree which is nice for shade in the hot summers.  The circulation works well and if you have a pull through you have two parking options for your tower/toad vehicle.  The spaces are long enough for the larger rigs, and are wide enough for all of the slides, even on both sides, and for awnings to go out.  Staff here is EXCELLENT.  We are always treated well, and we like how they are always there to help.  The office has some supplies for sale, and the laundry room and bathrooms are the CLEANEST we have ever seen.  Facilities are modern.  Rec room has ping pong, and pool, a large screen tv as well.  There is a small pool and hot tub, which gets a lot of use when open.  They do not allow tents.  They have a pretty robust WiFi system, and all cellular options are available in the area, so internet is not a problem.  Prices are higher than other options but the location is excellent, staff is excellent and they do a good job of security as well.  We feel safe here, and it is always clean.

    River Rest Resort

    Supe Nice and Easy

This is a great campsite, with lots of amenities. Super family friendly. Lots of kids at this site.

I came here in early August, 2020! It gets warm during the day and many spots have trees, which provide partial shade at some point in the day. I do recommend bringing a pop up structure for the moments when shade is not available.

We stayed at campsite 24, which is right on the river and next to the main river pool access. Lots of people coming by but everyone is respectful and there is some privacy from small trees planted along the path.

At the other end of the site is a river access that’s smaller and allows dogs (the main one does not). Since I do not have kids but do have a dog, I will probably try for the sites closer to the dog access next time.

The main river pool gets busy, lots of kids, families etc. but in the early evening and morning it is pretty empty and was a great time to relax. The dog access river pool was a lot less crowded. You can also float from the dog access pool down river to the main pool site which was a lot of fun.

The property has great bathrooms with showers. They take quarters for the showers, $.25 for 2 minutes. They have a small store onsite for the last minute essentials. They have a air pump to fill up rafts to float in the river. They also have wood delivery to your site if you order by 7pm. Each site has a picnic table and small fire pit with a grate if you want to cook on that! They also have a larger communal areas with BBQ and sink for those wanted to have a group meal. Each campsite has water, electricity and full RV hookups. So lots of RV’s at this location.

Very dog friendly and kid friendly.

Staff was super helpful and always present. They made rounds emptying trash cans, cleaning the bathrooms and just monitoring the area so that’s is super well maintained. You can tell they really love the place and want to keep it clean. They also were super nice when enforcing the rules, not mean but were not afraid to remind people to follow the camp rules (which were super reasonable).

No cell service, which was great. But you can drive up the hill 10 minutes to park at the vista and get a signal.

All in all we had a great time and will be back!

    Crystal Springs Campground

Camping under giant sequoias! What more could you want?

Beautiful, wild forest camping under huge sequoia trees in a well maintained campground with fairly well separated sites. Flush toilets and garbage disposal but no dump station or electrical or water hookups. Definitely not for big rigs and I have a teardrop trailer and my Outback which are almost 30 ft and it was quite a challenge

    Zephyr Cove Resort

    Family fun for all ages

Excellent spot for the whole family. Beware, if you are pulling a trailer brush up on your backing up skills. Very tight and narrow. Best time to get in the park is during the day. Not much difference between back in sites versus pull through sites. Very clean facilities. Close to everything. Everyone is nice and friendly. #162 is a good level site for RV.

    Bordertown Casino RV Resort

Well maintained, clean CG, friendly helpful staff

We are full-timers and have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. Since we had been boondocking for a while, we stayed for 3 nights in site 41 in mid May as a waypoint and an opportunity to dump, fill, do laundry, etc., as well as visit the casino. The CG is medium size, with a narrow strip of nice grass and a table(no chairs) between the sites, which are quite close- slides out, about 8-10. The CG is quiet, except for some road noise on US 365. The internal roads are a little narrow, although not too bad, but some of the turns are rather tight. All but a couple of sites are pull-throughs. AT&T service was fair with 2-3 bars of 5G and speeds up to about 20 MB/s. The CG WiFi was just ok, depending on your needs, with speeds up to 0.5 MB/s. Starlink had speeds up to 20 MB/s. We had DISH coverage on all of the western satellites. We didn’t try any OTA channels with our fixed omni antenna. As mentioned by others in their reviews, the sewer connections are slightly recessed, centered in concrete bowls; it was a challenge to get a good connection with a right-angle connector.

Guide to Truckee

RV camping options around Truckee, California extend beyond the immediate town into nearby areas of Nevada and California. Located at 5,800 feet elevation in the Sierra Nevada mountains, this region experiences extreme temperature fluctuations between seasons with summer highs averaging in the 80s and winter lows frequently dropping below freezing. Winter access often requires snow chains or 4WD vehicles, particularly at higher elevations where campgrounds may close completely.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: French Meadows Reservoir offers trout fishing in a mountain setting. "Bear country be advised. Extreme fire danger the summer months and closed due to snow in winter," notes reviewer Toby R. about French Meadows.

Water activities: Lake access is available at multiple locations. "We came into south lake to visit family. This campground is right in town but there's enough space and trees to give it a natural setting... there's a dog park, pool and trails," shared Sarah R. about Tahoe Valley Campground.

Hiking trails: Several campgrounds connect to regional trail systems. "There is access to a hiking/mountain biking path, but I did not explore it since it had rained heavily the day we arrived, and it was muddy," mentioned Lee D. at Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Restroom cleanliness varies by location. "The bathrooms were very clean," reported Jacki L. about her stay at Sparks Marina RV Park, an important consideration for longer stays.

Family activities: Organized social events are available at some locations. "They put on a ton of events like karaoke nights, live music, and smores nights. Hot showers and well lit clean bathrooms," reported Dani P. about Tahoe Valley Campground.

Affordable options: Pricing varies significantly by season and amenity level. "We appreciated reduced winter rates after October 2 ($40 for a back-in site)," noted Lee D. about Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort.

Level sites: Site grading impacts comfort, particularly for larger RVs. "All sites are full hookup, with wifi, and cable tv. Clean bathrooms, showers, and laundry. We would stay here again if in the area," noted Steve about Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Many campgrounds close during winter months. "We ended up camping in a truck camper at Tahoe Valley Campground after being caught in a snow storm... we weren't able to connect to water because of freezing temperatures," shared Basia M.

Wildlife concerns: Bears are active in the region, requiring proper food storage. "We arrived late on Friday, so went to buy wood on Saturday morning (around 8 am). No firewood available for purchase left," noted Anastasia P. about French Meadows.

Campsite selection: The quality of sites can vary significantly within the same campground. "WARNING- two thirds of the campsites were on a slope with no where to setup a tent on level ground," cautioned Graham K. about French Meadows.

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds may be challenging. "French Meadows is definitely off the beaten path. The road is long and windy and dangerous if you are not creeping around the corners. 1.5 hours from Auburn," reported Graham K.

Tips for camping with families

Family-friendly amenities: Some parks offer specific facilities for children. "Super busy campground with kids running around and riding bikes. They put on a ton of events like karaoke nights, live music, and smores nights," wrote Dani P. about Tahoe Valley.

Noise levels: Quiet hour enforcement varies by location. "Nicely kept campground but no night enforcement for quiet hours. Had several rowdy groups keeping us up til 2am. A few air horns, car alarms going off. No camp hosts or ground keepers around," reported Cassidy R. about Tahoe Valley.

Age restrictions: Some facilities limit activities by age. "The only negative part was my children and I could not enjoy the amenities. Kids must be 18 to enjoy the spa even if accompanied by adults, had a great club house with a pool table but kids must be 14 to play," noted Mar about Sparks Marina RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Hookup quality: Sewer connection design varies by location. "As mentioned by others in their reviews, the sewer connections are slightly recessed, centered in concrete bowls; it was a challenge to get a good connection with a right-angle connector," reported Ray & Terri F. about Bordertown Casino RV Resort.

RV park policies: Age restrictions on RVs exist at some parks. "There is NO mention of an age restriction on their website... But they WILL take the reservation online, take your money, then call to check the age of your rig. If you are honest, you are screwed," warned Leah T. about Sparks Marina RV Park.

Site amenities: Concrete pads and artificial turf are common at commercial RV parks. "Paved sites and picnic areas," noted Lai La L. about Bordertown Casino RV Resort, which provides a cleaner camping experience during wet weather.
