Casini Ranch Family Campground features cabins with electric hookups and access to drinking water. AutoCamp Russian River specializes exclusively in cabin accommodations with electric hookups, drinking water service, and shower facilities. Most cabin locations include shared toilet facilities, trash service, and picnic tables. San Francisco North-Petaluma KOA maintains cabin rentals with modern amenities including electric service. "Very large, clean, well maintained campground. Sites range from tent camping to RV water and electric only to full hookups," notes one review about Casini Ranch.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Porto Bodega Marina & RV Park maintains waterfront cabins with boat access options. Most cabin rentals require advance reservations, especially during summer months when the Russian River becomes a popular destination. Casini Ranch operates a "well stocked store" according to visitor reports, while River Bend Resort and San Francisco North-Petaluma KOA both maintain market facilities on their properties. Cooking facilities vary between locations, with some offering only basic amenities and others providing more complete setups. Properties like Johnson's Beach and AutoCamp Russian River remain particularly popular due to their proximity to water recreation opportunities along the Russian River.

Steep Ravine Campground — Mount Tamalpais State Park

    Beautiful views, lots of space

These cabins are well worth the cost. There is a separate bedroom, you could sleep 2 couples on beds easily with extra floor space and a small individual bunk for larger families. No electricity but the wood burning stove provides some light. Bring candles and lanterns and some fabric for curtains for privacy.

    Quaint

I loved the quaint feel of our campsite. The only downside was that the main road runs alongside the grounds. Our site was small but my eyes were pleased by how it looked. Site had a fire ring, picnic table, and a stone grill. The grounds had running water, flush toilets and quarter showers.

Camped here at night and explored point reyes during the day.

    San Francisco North-Petaluma KOA

    Great camp for the kids

This KOA is pretty big with plenty of options for RV sites. Wide variety of full hook-ups or partial hook-ups. Like most (if not all) KOAs, you can also tent camp or tent cabins. Good size dog park for the pets to run and be free, as well as plenty of fun activities to entertain the kiddos. For us, this is a great spot to shoot down the highway and pull in for a few days to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life! Close to downtown Petaluma with plenty of premium shops and restaurants.

Samuel P. Taylor State Park Campground

    Crowded, but beautiful!

This campground is beautiful, set in the redwoods, with a creek and nature trails. It has all the amenities: flush toilets, showers, fire pits, running water, and grills. The only drawback is the sites are small and close together, affording very little privacy. The campground can be pretty loud at night too. If you're looking for peace, quiet, and seclusion, this might not be the campground for you. We really enjoyed it though because we have a three year old, and with all the other noise in the campground, I didn't have to feel bad when she was being loud. Also, watch out for the raccoons! They stole my bread that I stupidly left out, and then tried to get into our ice chest. There are lockers provided at each campsite. Use them!

Samuel P. Taylor State Park Campground

Nice shady retreat in beautiful redwoods.

We have previously tent camped and car camped here and we really enjoy it. It can get warm in the summer, but the cool moist ocean fog comes in and blankets the area in the evenings, which can really cool it down. On our first visit, there was no running water or showers, but they did have portapotties. On our second visit, water was available, but it was not potable, and the showers and toilets were still not working. Not sure if that is a Covid related issue or a temporary maintenance issue. It’s worth a drive through prior to staying, in order to find a site that fits your needs, they have many different sized sites available, and we like the sites in the high teens (18 & 19), as they seem a bit larger and are right along the creek. The sites appear to be your standard state park equipment with a fire pit, a picnic table and a lockable pantry. The parking area for our site was large enough to accommodate our SUV and another vehicle. There is firewood generally available with the camp host or at the gate. Good cell signal with Verizon. Because of the amazing redwood canopy, it might be hard to get good sun for solar in most of the sites. There are all kinds of trails available, as well as a paved path that runs for at least a mile or so along the creek, that used to be the old railroad line through that area. They have informational signs all over the place providing historical or ecological information. Access to the creek is seasonally restricted for spawning, and I believe that goes from spring to about mid June or July. Also, lots of poison oak in the unmaintained areas and off the trails, so be aware.

Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA

    Safe sound and beautiful

Senior camping at it's best. A heated cabin and pad on bed that was comfortable. Got showers and a family vibe. Great location for scouting Mendocino coastline and Pt Arena. No wifi though so don't bring work.

Samuel P. Taylor State Park Campground

    Group site

The group site was spacious and had a wate spigot, two fire rings, two grills and three picnic tables. There was room for two vehicles and is right next to a bathroom with quarter showers. It's a large campground in a beautiful park. Didn't hike but enjoyed road biking around.

Ritchey Creek Campground — Bothe-Napa Valley State Park

Campground in the heart of wine country

Small, cozy campground located in the heart of wine country. Site contains fire pit, picnic tables, and bear locker. Several prominent wineries located near by as well as a charming town called Calistoga. Sites and bathrooms were well maintained. Good option if you're doing Napa on a budget!

Guide to Bridgehaven

Cabin accommodations along the Russian River corridor provide budget-friendly options for visitors seeking the comforts of home in a natural setting. Located in Sonoma County near Jenner, the region sees cool coastal fog in mornings with daytime temperatures typically ranging 60-75°F during summer months. Most cabin facilities require reservations 3-6 months in advance during peak season from May through September.

What to do

River access options: At Casini Ranch Family Campground, visitors can take advantage of their position on the Russian River. "Casini Ranch is a great campground, right off the river. You can kayak down the river and the campgrounds have a big variety of sizes, some on and off the river," notes Wes R. The campground provides water recreation opportunities without requiring guests to bring their own equipment.

Wine country exploration: Ritchey Creek Campground at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park serves as an affordable base for wine tasting. "If you're a wine drinker, during non-COVID times you can catch a wine bus from here!" shares Peter M. The park's location provides convenient access to neighboring vineyards without the expense of local accommodations.

Fishing opportunities: Porto Bodega Marina & RV Park offers waterfront cabin options with fishing access. "We had a dry spot right on the marina side so the view was nice," reports Jennifer J. The cabins sit within walking distance of the marina where guests can fish or watch local fishermen prepare their boats in early morning hours.

What campers like

Beach access: Johnson's Beach cabins provide convenient river recreation. "Russian River is right out front of the campground. They offer kayaks canoes, and whatever else you want to rent," explains Leafe Z. The campground's location allows guests to transition quickly between cabin comfort and water activities.

Family activities: San Francisco North-Petaluma KOA provides structured recreation for cabin guests. "They have a lot of different areas for the kids. Swimming, giant bounce area, and mild weather. Coffee bar, large play grounds and near shopping for any needs," says Chris B. The organized activities help keep younger visitors entertained throughout their stay.

Scenic views: Porto Bodega Marina & RV Park offers waterfront cabin settings with notable natural features. "You can see the Milky Way at night while listening to the soft foghorn and every now and then a soft bark of a seal," describes Duranne C. These cabins provide sensory experiences beyond standard accommodations.

What you should know

Seasonal bridge access: Cloverdale/Healdsburg Campground cabins require different access routes depending on timing. "Getting to the campground is easier in the summer because there is a bridge that goes over the river, making it a shorter drive. In the winter, the bridge is removed, so you have to go through the town of Cloverdale and back track, adding about 15-20 minutes to your trip," advises April H.

Campground noise levels: Some Casini Ranch Family Campground cabins experience more noise than others. "Thursday a very loud rambunctious crowd showed up. Casini Campground has a ton of rules, one of which is you shouldn't play your music loud enough for your neighbors to hear, we were able to hear the music and the people who were trying to talk over their music," reports Michi P. Site selection can significantly impact experience quality.

Wildlife encounters: Camping cabins near Bridgehaven often include encounters with local fauna. "They have raccoons but don't tell you that, we didn't leave anything out but had muddy footprints all over our table in the morning! Their garbage cans are not raccoon proof so every morning there's garbage scattered around," notes Jennifer J. Proper food storage becomes essential at these properties.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: River Bend Resort provides multiple recreation options for children. "The good: The private beach is great for kids (and adults). Easy swimming without a strong current. Lots of shallows but a deep swimming hole are for adults too. The camp store is cute and there's a brewery next door if you want a meal out. There are several playgrounds which are fun for kids. And an arcade," explains H L.

Pet restrictions: Some cabin facilities limit pet access in certain areas. "If you have a dog, they don't allow the dog on the beach or in the boat with you and they're not allowed to stay behind in the tent, so you're kind of stuck if you have a dog," cautions Leafe Z. Families traveling with pets should research specific restrictions before booking.

Site selection for children: Samuel P. Taylor State Park Campground offers variable experiences based on site location. "Sites 47-44 had no one across the way, more private, set back," recommends Kathleen C. Selecting quieter sites can significantly improve family camping experiences, especially with young children.

Tips from RVers

Bathroom facilities: Duncans Mills Campground (Membership) offers variable hookup options for different camping needs. "Nice sites, although not all sites are full hook up. You can pay to have your Honeywell dumped if not at a full hook up," advises Cathy. Understanding facility options helps campers prepare appropriately for their stay.

Site spacing considerations: San Francisco North-Petaluma KOA layouts vary significantly. "Sites were fairly close together and offered little privacy but overall it was a great place to recharge and get organized," shares Kelsey L. Campers seeking privacy should research specific site options when making reservations.

Water quality variations: Water testing results vary between camping cabin locations. "Tested the water-Water tested as acceptable tap water after running it through an external filter. 21 elements checked, all within range. Dissolved solids were 251...pretty high. The worst water in our 6 week trip," reports Patrick J. RVers may benefit from bringing water filtration systems when using local supplies.
