Best Cabin Camping near Boonville, CA

Rustic cabins pepper the woodlands near Boonville, offering retreaters a blend of forest immersion and basic comforts. Hendy Woods State Park Campground maintains cabins set among towering redwoods with electricity and basic furnishings. "We stayed at Hendy Woods for one night in early October. What a beautiful campground nestled under a redwood forest with great running/hiking trails in the park," noted one visitor. Nearby, Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA provides more developed cabin accommodations with electricity, water hookups, and indoor facilities. The Narrows Lodge Resort and Thousand Trails Russian River also feature cabin rentals with varying levels of amenities, from basic sleeping quarters to units with full bathrooms.

Depending on the specific property, cabins range from rustic one-room structures to more comprehensive accommodations with separate sleeping areas. Cloverdale/Healdsburg Campground offers cabin options with picnic tables and fire rings outside, while maintaining access to communal bathrooms and showers. Most cabin sites allow pets on leash with additional fees. Reservations are strongly recommended, particularly during summer months when the Anderson Valley wine region sees increased tourism. According to feedback on The Dyrt, "Hendy Woods is a gem, and will always occupy a fond place in my memories. It's not quite what you experience in Humboldt County, but it's about 100 miles closer to the Bay Area and it's a magical place."

Most cabins provide beds with mattresses but require visitors to bring their own linens, pillows, and blankets. Kitchen facilities vary significantly—some cabins offer mini-refrigerators and microwaves while others provide only outdoor cooking options at designated fire rings. Basic supplies can be purchased at the Navarro General Store or Lemmons Market as mentioned by campers in reviews. Campground markets at locations like Manchester Beach KOA stock essential items, though selection is limited. Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort and Pine Acres Blue Lake Resort maintain on-site stores for forgotten items. Firewood is available for purchase at most cabin locations, with bundle prices typically ranging from $6-8.

Westport Beach RV Park and Campground

    Great beach access.

We were lucky to get a site right next to the beach for our class B RV. This is a beautiful site along Highway 1.

PS if this site is full, there is a dry camp about a mile north on Highway one. It is right next to the remains of old Highway One and it’s called Oyster Point. It is a rustic grass lot with space between sites, but not much privacy.. There are picnic tables and fire rings. A couple of pit toilets are located around the site. There are about 45 campsites here. Sites here are on a first come basis and self registering. The photos included here are for oyster point.

    Hendy Woods State Park Campground

    Family Freindly Redwood Camping

Spacious sites with fire pit, wooden food box and picnic table. Potable water available at spigots along the roads every 3-4 campgrounds. The campground has restrooms with sinks (bring your own soap), flush toilets, coin operated showers. Campground ha easy access to hiking, swimming in the river, and wine tasting just up the road. There a local produce stands just up the road where you can expect to buy tasty Gravenstien apples if you visit in August! Mosquitoes are present so bring bug spray! If you forget anything, there is a Mom and Pop store up the road that sells almost everything you need including batteries, tableclothes, butane, ice and firewood for about $6 a bundle. The campground host sells firewood for $8 a bundle. Campsites are for 8 people maximum. Even with 8 people, we didn't feel cramped. Sites come with 2 parking passes. If you have more than two cars in your party, you can pay for additional parking passes. Dog friendly! I was the only person in my group to have cell service here and I have Verizon.

Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA

Delightful, quiet campground in the pines not far from Mendocino

Normally I wouldn't think of myself as a KOA sort of camper. This campground is enough to change my mind! There are some weekends you need to get away, but there's no time to pack the long list of stuff needed for camping. So we tried out one of these little cedar cabins. It was fantastic!!

We loved the quiet, laidback campground, with lovely old pines giving a sense of being in the forest -- even while being walking distance from the water. You're literally close enough to hear the surf, and see the Point Arena lighthouse.

It's dog friendly, with pool, hot tub, hot showers, full bathrooms, and also extensive Camp Kitchen facilities with sho-nuff gas grills.

    We absolutely plan to return!

    Jughandle Creek Farm

Perfectly secluded and right next to the beach.

Jughandle is a beautiful area between Mendocino and Fort Bragg. It contains excellent hiking, a beautiful beach, and even a Pygmy Redwood Forest. I booked it through Hipcamp and you could tell that was the majority of their campers.

We were able to score a site that was very secluded at the end of the road before the private property line. It was the perfect spot to set up two(or more) tents. There was a great fire ring and picnic table at the site.

A short less than a minute walk to the porta potty bathroom that is at the edge of a big field. In the field are two more sites on either side of the road and a large communal cooking area with a water source.

There is also a large fire ring with stump seats in case you want to have a gathering. The sites were pretty quiet even when they were all full and you were able to get to your site without distracting others too much.

There is a hiking path that takes you down to Jughandle Beach where you will find all kinds of tourists, animals, and great sand to play in or up to the pygmy redwood forest.

Guide to Boonville

Cabin rentals near Boonville, California provide year-round lodging options throughout the Anderson Valley region. Located approximately 125 miles north of San Francisco, this area experiences mild Mediterranean climate with summer temperatures typically ranging from 65-85°F and winter lows around 40°F. Fall is particularly busy as visitors arrive for wine harvest festivals and changing foliage, making advance cabin reservations essential during September and October.

What to do

Fishing access points: The Navarro River offers seasonal fishing spots within walking distance of several cabin sites. At Kelsey Creek Campground, "There is a cute apple orchard with an honor system mini outdoor shop where they sell apples, cider, etc. They offer cider tastings every once and a while too!" according to one visitor at Hendy Woods State Park Campground.

Wine tasting routes: Cabins situated in the Anderson Valley provide easy access to multiple wineries. "Great campground in the Anderson Valley. Anderson Valley is a Pinot Noir region so wineries surround the campground. Booneville is a cute nearby town with kid friendly Anderson Valley Brewery and Pennyroyal Cheese Farm," notes a visitor from Hendy Woods.

Beach excursions: Cabins along Highway 1 offer coastal access. A visitor at Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA shares, "Perfect location to set up and use as a base of operations while you explore up and down the mendocino coast." Their cabins provide heated accommodations for exploring coastal areas during cooler months.

What campers like

Cell service availability: Unlike more remote areas, many cabins maintain reliable connectivity. One visitor at Hendy Woods mentioned, "I always have a little bit of service (Verizon) at the campground." Another camper noted, "I managed to get enough cell signal to work from my trailer. Even a video Zoom conference on at&t hotspot!"

Cabin heating systems: Most rental cabins offer temperature control for year-round comfort. At Cloverdale/Healdsburg Campground, cabins provide climate-controlled environments, while a Manchester Beach KOA visitor notes "The cabins have heaters which is definitely nice."

Community kitchens: Several properties offer shared cooking spaces beyond individual cabins. "This KOA has large tent sites and a HUGE kitchen with 3 electric stoves and several sinks and microwaves for camper use," reports a visitor to Manchester Beach KOA.

What you should know

Limited winter services: During off-season, many facilities reduce operations. At Thousand Trails Russian River, "There's no laundry room you have to go to a laundromat they have washer and dryers outside of the bathrooms but they're not very convenient," according to a recent visitor.

Cabin furnishing variations: Bed configurations differ significantly between properties. A visitor to Manchester Beach KOA advises, "The cabins have beds, but the beds are really uncomfortable, it's just a pad on top of a slat wood frame, remember to bring a foam topper."

Reservation windows: Most cabin properties open bookings 6-12 months in advance. Peak season weekends fill quickly, especially at Hendy Woods where a camper observed, "We were lucky enough to camp on a Monday when everyone had gone home so we had the place almost all to ourselves."

Tips for camping with families

Age-appropriate properties: Some cabin locations specifically cater to families with younger children. At Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort, "Designed for families, this KOA a lot. A petting zoo, water play, pool, arcade and events. We were there for movie night. They had a big screen and showed a film for the kiddos."

Educational programs: Several properties offer structured activities for children. At Hendy Woods, "The junior ranger program and nightly events for families helped keep the kids engaged in the camping experience. Park rangers hosted guided hikes, nighttime stargazing (with telescopes), and nightly campfires."

Weather preparedness: Coastal cabin locations experience significant temperature changes. A visitor to Mendocino Coast notes, "Being so close to the beach though, it gets COLD at night." Pack layered clothing and additional blankets even during summer stays.

Tips from RVers

Interior cabin accessibility: Many cabin sites accommodate accessibility needs. At Narrows Lodge Resort, "We rented a camping yurt and we were so surprised how big it is! We received a key to our own bathroom and shower!"

Off-season availability: Winter months offer greater cabin selection and reduced rates. A traveler at Thousand Trails Russian River reported, "We stayed for 10 days which we felt was WAY too long," suggesting shorter bookings during off-peak times.

Firewood regulations: Policy on fires varies by property and season. While most cabin sites sell firewood bundles year-round, Thousand Trails Russian River specifically prohibits wood fires, requiring campers to bring propane fire pits if desired.
