All the amenities

I was really looking forward to staying here but left disappointed. Let's start with the good. The river is spectacular! We spent hours hanging in our tubes and swimming. There are showers, flush toilets and all the hookups you need. There are also cute cabins, which I wish we would have done. Now the bad. We pulled into an open spot and decided to go look at the river to decide if we wanted to stay. We couldn't have been down there 10 minutes, only to return to a note on our car from the campground host to pay immediately. And the family across from us wanted to know when we'd be leaving. A very rude and awkward way to start our time there. Let's just say they were not the friendliest neighbors. The camp filled up quickly and there was lots of activity among other campers at night, which made it hard to sleep. So if you are looking for peaceful and secluded this is not the spot. It caters to RV's, families and people that think they're "camping." I don't think we'd return. We would prefer the dispersed camping a bit down the river.

Good for a pitstop

We were looking for something about halfway between SF and Portland. This was a convenient spot since it's close enough to the Oregon border, located close to Yreka and just far enough off the 1-5 to make you feel like you're off the beaten path. The camp is right on the Klamath! It's a pretty typical campground. Good tree cover but not a lot of privacy between spots. It served the purpose we needed and would consider using it again for pitstops, but nothing so special that I'd go out of my way to spend several days there unless you planned on finding river access to play in the Klamath.

Incredibly beautiful!

Some friends and I reserved the group camp and we had easy access to the river and an entire massive meadow all to ourselves. The spot was enormous, had great tree cover and bathrooms nearby. At night we sat in the meadow and watched for shooting stars. But we spent most of our time walking the trail and find spots to swim and tube down the river. The farther we walked, the fewer people we saw and the views and pools were indescribably stunning. We were there on a busy weekend so there was one area of river that was particularly crowded, but I guess that is to be expected at this type of state park location. We drove through the rest of the campground and it's beautiful but spots seemed a little crowded. It has all the amenities to make it comfortable-flush toilets, showers, wood for sale. But if you want more privacy and a HUGE space and it's within your budget, consider the group site. It was well worth it!

Just ok

Used this spot on my annual Fall color trip in 2020 as it was one of the few spots open (either due to seasonal closures and the fire). Not a lot of privacy between neighbors as there is very little tree cover. But there is a nice creek and it's close to other scenic areas. It was fine for a night, but I wouldn't plan to come back when there are better camps nearby.

Hidden gem

This is a tiny State Park that you can spend a couple hours, a day or a week exploring. Scenic drive is spectacular. Endless red rock formations and slot canyons to explore. I was here end of December, which is considered a popular time to camp here. It was busy. Comfortable camping. One of the campgrounds even has showers. Some really cool spots tucked deep in the rocks. My spot had a level gravel camping pad and a covered picnic table. Evidence of big horn sheep all through camp. Great hiking, views, petroglyphs, dog friendly. Hard to believe it's an hour from Vegas!

The VIEWS!!!

High desert meets Sierra Nevadas in a magical rock playground with views of My Whitney. This spot literally has it all. Right off the 395, you have access to civilization and amenities. It's dispersed camping, but heavily used sites are well established. The deeper into the park you venture, the more primitive and less crowded it becomes. Take a quick drive and you're at Whitney Portal. We lucked out and had 360 degrees of the best views ever! Loads to do here. Popular for rock climbing, hiking, spectacular night sky, wildflowers, photography. Even though it's right off the highway you feel like you're on another planet. No facilities. Pack it in, pack it out. Hands down, one of the best camp spots I've ever had!

Ricardo campground

Such an amazing spot! It was crowded on a holiday/lunar eclipse weekend. The red rock canyons surrounding the campground are reminiscent of Arizona or Utah desert. Great for hiking, photography, star gazing, climbing and off roading. Dog friendly. I'm not a huge fan of being close to fellow campers but some spots are tucked deep enough against the rocks it feels more private. There is a visitor center with Wi-Fi, had limited service from my spot. Safe, clean and really beautiful!

Desert perfection

Super primitive but heavily used campground tucked among red rocks along a wash. I camped here in Spring and the wash was full of wildflowers. We drove back at least a mile in a sedan to set up camp. It's doable without four wheel drive or high clearance, just use caution. Need to bring your own fire pit and pack out coals. No facilities other than a vault toilet near the entrance of the wash. Anza Borrego is a gem. Loved this campground!

Great swimming

The campground is about 30 mins from the highway, in beautiful forest and has easy access to the water. Campground was quiet, clean and empty when we were there. Ate handfuls of wild blackberries and swam in a small, secluded cove with warm water. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. I would stay here again.

I love trees!!!!

Sites were reasonably private and tucked amongst towering redwoods. Right off Avenue of the Giants, this campground is a great location to explore some spectacular old growth redwoods and the Eel river nearby. This area is magical.

Pretty

It's your typical National Park Campground. Sites aren't very private. Great for families, easy access to the lake, general store, flush toilets and showers. It's comfortable camping. We were here in late May/early June and most of the park was still closed due to snow. But it made for fun sliding down the top of a snowy volcano!

Wanted to love it

Pristine water! It is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. I love how primitive and small the campground is, and it would have been perfect but we set up camp and then noticed a massive, fresh bear scat about 15 feet away from our tent. Ok, not the end of the world. Then other campers came by to warn us there was an active bear who destroyed their food and gear the previous night. Ok, not great. We decided to stick it until said bear showed up at dinner time and had ZERO fear of us. He was willing to get way too close after several attempts to chase him off. He wasn't afraid of anything. Not our car horn, not banging pots and pans, not me aggressively yelling and clapping at him. We tried for close too an hour to chase him out of camp but to no avail. We had a toddler and weren't willing to stick around to see how much more friendly he could be. My problem with this campground is the lack of proper bear boxes and trash cans. Clearly, the bears realize it's easy pickings here and all they have to do is rummage through people's gear to find an easy food source. It's not good for the bears. I'm an avid camper and have had bear experiences before but this bear was entirely too comfortable with humans. I hope this park makes it safer for the bears and campers by providing proper food and garbage storage units. I plan on coming back though. The water was so amazing. And pack the bug spray. The mosquitos were more aggressive than the bear.

Stunning falls

The Falls are spectacular and easy to access. The campground is not my style--there is a general store, lots of RV camping and ground workers circling in golf carts. They pulled up at our site as it neared check out time and asked if we were almost done. But with that said, it's clean, family friendly, very comfy camping…if that's your thing.

Perfection!

Camped in late May. Weather was perfect. Not busy. Beautiful views from our campsite and easy access to water. It was super peaceful!

Great for the price!

It's free but donations are welcome. It's more for boondocking your trailer or RV. Spots are huge. Great for motorcycle/snowmobile. I was the only person in a tent. Not great if you're looking for tent camping atmosphere. But close to Mammoth and June Lake Loop. Had a bear visitor. Better for RV camping.

Best campground in the area!

On the Kern River. Some spots with great views of the river. Some spacious and wooded. Right off Highway so can be noisy at night.

Peace and quiet

Camped here in off season in November and it was us and maybe 2 other campers. Feels super remote and primitive. Tucked in a redwood grove. Hikes are awesome. Flush toilets. But aggressive squirrels. But one of my favorite spots in CA.

Amazing spot outside Yosemite!!

Great campground tucked in an aspen grove on Tioga Pass 20 mins from Tuolumne entrance of Yosemite. Spacious spots and the ones on the water are amazing. Gas station/convenient store/food 10 mins drive away. Mono lake and June lake loop close by. Great spot for the Sierras. Got last site during peak season. Only $14 a night. Host was super friendly. Can't wait to go back.

It's ok...

I might have had an unusually bad experience? They cleaned the vault toilets while I was there and I had to physically remove myself from the grounds, the fire station nearby had an alarm going off in the middle of the night, noisy neighbors, lots of flies. But…it was pretty and think it could have been better if I had different neighbors or wasn't downwind of the toilets. Large camp, cute town nearby and decent hikes. Would I be in a rush to go back? Not really.

Sweet spot

Right on the Colorado, spectacular scenery, Arches national park nearby, what's not to love?
