The Fishing Camp Tackle & RV Park

    Eh...

We stayed here for one night while passing through. It's basically a gravel lot with concrete pads and hook ups behind a gas station and restaurant with what appears to be a good amount of full-timers. That's fine - we don't need anything fancy for one night stays, just a safe place to park with hookups. What bothered us was two things. First, there was a camper at the back of the park with a poor dog in a small fenced in area next to their rig that was left outside the entire time we were there, including overnight when it got cold (28°). The poor thing kept barking every time we would come outside. I felt so bad for that dog. The park's rules (upon confirmation of our reservation) state that pets should always be on a leash and attended to, which was obviously not enforced. It was heartbreaking - the dog was cold and obviously wanted some attention. The other thing we noticed was a ton of black glass on the ground outside our rig. It looked like busted camper glass, spread everywhere. It got tracked into our camper, which I hopefully got all swept out so we don't step on it. There was also no formal check in upon arrival, which was confusing. We went in the gas station and they said there was no need to check in (not a big deal, just a head's up to those considering a stay). The saving graces were the cost ($25/night) and the restaurant which, despite a nearly hour long wait (understandable - it was Friday night), was delicious. We tried boudin for the first time (the eggrolls), and they were heavenly. This park may be better for full timers who don't mind being witness to neglected animals. 🤷‍♀️

    Lake Chicot State Park Campground

    Beautiful lakeside sites. Friendly staff.

This is a beautiful campground on Lake Chicot in Arkansas.   The lakeside sites on so nice.  You can watch the sun sets on the lake.  There are cypress trees at the lake's edge all around the lake.  The nearby town is small, but does have groceries and a few good restaurants.

Staff in the office are very helpful and pleasant.  We have stayed here twice now and there are generally sites available to choose from.  There are some maintenance issues but they are working on upgrades in the campground.

    Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area

    Worst WMA Land Ever Visited

This WMA land is the worst that I have ever stayed at. If you stay here and don’t need to leave your vehicle your probably safe. We ended up staying here on our drive from Texas to Alabama and thought it was a great spot on the map to stop as its close to the highway(Historic Highway 80). The location was great due to the proximity to the highway and there was very minimal road noise. Since we got their late at night we were unable to really get a full lay of the land. We pulled in and used the turnaround and setup camp. After an incident that night with our dog rolling in human feces we knew we wouldn’t like the site of the camp in the morning. After we cleaned him(thank goodness we had lots of water and dog shampoo) we went to bed only to hear barking of stray dogs. The next morning we kept our dogs on a tight leash and were in disarray with the amount of garbage and trash around the camping area. Overall don’t stay here unless you absolutely have to. The road in is Gravel and.05 miles from a paved road. Russell Sage WMA is open Year round. There are 1-5 campsites at this location and the maximum RV length is 25 feet. You may stay 14 days at Russell Sage WMA.

    Cheniere Lake Park

    Very pretty and quiet location

Very convenient to I-20. Approximately 3 miles south of the interstate but you feel like you are a world away. Some of the campsites are very pretty overlooking the lake and the cypress trees. The scenery is unique and beautiful. Great if you’re attending a function at the lodge. Literally steps away from the event location. Nice playground for the children. Sheriff’s department is nearby and they patrol frequently so you feel very safe. You can hear the firing range in the distance. All in all a nice experience. Very easy to access I20. Also convenient to a Pilot Travel Center and a propane place both on the right if you take the Well Road exit off the interstate to get here.

Landry Vineyards Grape Escape RV Sites

    A fabulous overnight!

We spent the night here in our 36-foot motorhome along with our two yellow Labs. From pulling up to the tasting room, where we were warmly greeted, to the wine we enjoyed on the patio, to the lovely evening outside, and our early start in the morning, everything was perfect!

We did a wine tasting of six wines, then shared a bottle of Sangiovese and took a bottle of Mouvedre for the road. Emily was so helpful to me as I selected wines based on what we know we already like.

Overlooking the vineyards -- what a beautiful view! And the grounds are excellent for walking dogs and admiring the scenery. We were very pleased with the setting and hospitality.

Lake D'Arbonne State Park — New Lake D'arbonne State Park

    Resort like State Park

Lots of amenities. Tennis courses, disc golf course, hiking/biking trails, swimming pool, cabins, lodges, several playgrounds, picnic areas, pavilions & WiFi. Very reasonable sites for $23/night unless you’re in the lakeside premium sites which are more. Laundry room next to the bath house and playground. I will definitely be back.

    Pecan Grove RV Park

    Overnighter

We stayed here one night on our way to Arkansas. $37.50 per night which was high for what you get. Sites were level enough that we didn’t unhook. Stayed here in a 29’ travel trailer. FHU.

Guide to Crossett

Camping near Crossett, Arkansas centers around several waterway connections, with the Saline and Ouachita rivers creating a network of fishing and boating opportunities. Summer temperatures typically reach 90°F with high humidity, while winter camping sees mild 50-60°F days and occasionally freezing nights. Most campgrounds in this region provide full utility hookups due to the area's popularity with RV campers.

What to do

Kayaking on Chemin-A-Haut Creek: Chemin-A-Haut State Park features ancient cypress trees accessible by water. "Rent a kayak or canoe to paddle to them," recommends Nicki M., who noted the "1000 year old Cypress trees scattered throughout" the creek.

Wildlife observation: While camping at Crossett RV Park, watch for native species in their natural habitat. "Quiet and secluded with nice roomy sites, and plenty of wildlife such as deer, hogs, and turkey," reports Steve S., who described the experience as "a beautiful surprise like a hidden gem."

Disc golf course: Lake D'Arbonne State Park maintains a full course for disc golf enthusiasts of all skill levels. "Lots of amenities. Tennis courses, disc golf course, hiking/biking trails, swimming pool," shares Cheri H., who called it a "Resort like State Park."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Moro Bay State Park Campground maintains exceptionally clean restrooms. "Bathrooms are right across the street very well kept," notes Steve S., while another camper, Melody F., agreed: "Restrooms were very clean."

Peaceful atmosphere: For campers seeking quiet surroundings, select the right location at Moro Bay. "Quiet if you get a stop in the back area. Drove the other side and was close to highway so not sure on noise," advises James T., highlighting location-specific considerations.

Fishing access: Union County Grand Marais Campground offers direct lake access for anglers. Aleia B. noted it was a "Great location for fishing," though she mentioned it's "very far out from town," which provides additional isolation.

What you should know

Seasonal water level changes: Water conditions affect accessibility in several parks. Pam G. from Chemin-A-Haut State Park shared: "Water has been high for a few months so its ugly and not so useable. There's supposed to be a route by canoe to old growth trees but water is too high."

Limited cell service: Some parks have connectivity challenges. Heath H. explained that at Chemin-A-Haut, "Cellular service isn't great but they do have Wi-Fi."

Off-trail hiking difficulties: While marked trails exist, venturing off them can be challenging. "We went trial hiking but this was a little difficult as the walking trails aren't really maintained (the horse trails are maintained and clearly marked)," reports Zack M. about Chemin-A-Haut State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Multiple playground options: Lake D'Arbonne State Park offers family-friendly recreation areas. "Park hosts were very nice. Walking trails were very clean around lake with TentRR glamping being added," shares Bruce F., who also mentioned the park has "two playgrounds and kids trail."

Overnight safety: Families concerned about security should consider Moro Bay State Park. "I needed a place to come in late that was safe and quiet. This spot is perfect. Expensive but worth it for the cleanliness and safety," explains Tiffany Ann G.

Pool access: During summer months, Lake D'Arbonne offers swimming facilities. "Nice hilly trails for hiking, huge/nice pool, nice cabins, fishing piers, plenty of tent and RV spots," states Zack M., though be aware that seasonal closures may occur.

Tips from RVers

Level pads availability: Corney Lake South Shore Campground provides varying degrees of level camping areas. "Sites in the middle of the campground are level; others slope down a little toward the lake," advises Fred S., who adds that "Sites are grass surfaces. No tent pads. No RV driveways to individual sites."

Site selection for larger rigs: Corney Lake has limited large vehicle capacity. Lea B. notes, "There are only a couple of sites big enough for large rigs, but my 30' motorhome fit easy enough."

Hookup configurations: For pet friendly camping near Crossett, Arkansas, verify hookup positions match your RV setup. At Landry Vineyards Grape Escape RV Sites, Jamie R. discovered, "It was very easy to get into and out of with our 45' 5th wheel," while another camper mentioned, "Originally, our site said it was set up for motorized RVs with the hookups set to drive into the site. However, when we arrived (with our 30 foot TT) we found hookups on BOTH sides of the site, making it that much easier for us to hook up."
