The park operates year-round with spacious pull-through sites down the middle and equally roomy back-in spots along both sides. Gristmill Farms RV Park, located nearby, features electric hookups with both 30 and 50 amp service options, along with sewer and water connections. Reservations are recommended for most RV campgrounds in the area, especially during peak seasons. Come Back Ranch Animal Sanctuary RV Parking offers just five sites but includes amenities like 50 amp electrical service and sewer hookups for self-contained units. Most RV parks in the area welcome pets, though specific rules vary by location. Dump stations are limited in the immediate Springerville area, with Bear Paw RV Park being one of the few offering this service. For RV campers seeking more amenities, Hon-Dah RV Park in Pinetop (about an hour's drive west) provides full hookups, a dump station, and access to a market. Winter travelers should note that water connections at some parks use underground insulated boxes with blankets to prevent freezing in the colder months.

    Ponderosa RV Resort

Adult Oriented CG In The Pines

We spent 5-nights here (July 1-6, 2022). Ponderosa is a reasonably quiet (“home improvement” construction next door to us), adult oriented, RV park in the pines(we had apple trees) of Pinetop. I wouldn’t call Ponderosa a RV Resort as it’s more a trailer park with the vast majority of occupants being long term tenants. It is a relatively easy access CG with back-in and pull through (8?) gravel sites. It is a good base camp to visit the area. There are plenty local attractions: lakes, rivers and streams, wilderness and national forests. Activities include: fishing, biking (wish I brought my mtn bike), hiking/walking and ATV trails. We did not make use of the laundry, bathrooms or showers. The WiFi was good as was cell phone reception. We might stay here again.

    Springerville RV Park

No local TV, only online, poor wifi

The Springville RV Park is well spread out very nice pull through down the middle and equally spacious back in on both sides of the pull through spots. Full hookups 30amp 50amp and 20amp power poll. The water spickets are in an under ground, green lawn sprinklers control box with an insulation blankets. Because this place does get snow in the winters. Don't want the water pipes to freeze. Don't think there is a decated dump station. But every campsite does have its own dump station. The whole campground is graded level with fresh gravel each spring. Which makes it nice to park and to get leavel you just have to raise or lower your tongue jack as the case may be! There are young trees which will make for some shade when they get bigger. They are making improvements with each year. There are not Picnic tables in every site. But after talking to Don the camp host you could get a spot with one at checkin or one if one is available at a nearby spot move to your spot. There is laundry room with a books and DVD to borrow or exchang system. We pickout two DVD to watch tonight. Tried to do an over air scan with our TV, but no stations found. So you will need to bring your own Satellite system system are your own DVD's or movies to watch. As with most campgrounds this place has a very limited WiFi. Writing this with it. But our Fire TV can't connect enough to watch. Was able to cast from my phone to watch a Netflix show using a patch cord till phone battery was use up. Over all this is a very nice campground. There is a Safeway Grocery store about a 5 minute drive down the road in town. The what you could say is a negative point. No play grounds for kids, (there is the very big flat oval drive way around the pull through area the kids could ride their bikes around, have seen a few doing that). It is a nice flat place to walk your dogs. There is no fenced in dog run areas. No bathroom or showers. It is on the list of improvements to come. There is not a Credit cards reader for payments. You can pay with a check, but to use your card. The Camp host takes a picture of it. Then sends it to the owner to run the card. After she has the info, she has the hose deleted it. The way I would recommend is to call her at check in to give here the information directly. She does not take a reservation fee when making your reservation. Still runs on your hand shake is your word you will be here and she will have spot saved for you. So if delay or need to cancel be a person of your word to let them know.

Nice But Sites a Little Tricky

This is really a Park Model Resort that has about 25% of their sites set aside for RVs. The RV sites are scattered throughout the park but they have tried to group them together as much as possible. The sites are pretty level, really wide, and fairly deep. There is a concrete patio with each site. Sites are covered in cinders which are a bit of a pain. They present a somewhat soft surface which is like walking in about 6 inches of soft sand. Almost all the sites have a tree planted right at the front next to the road. Some of the trees are a bit wide which really makes getting into the site difficult. Even though the sites are wide the RV parking area is between the patio and the sewer connection which is about 11ft wide. When you combine that with landscaping and patio covers on some of the park models and getting in some sites can be real challenging for a larger rig. We have a 40ft motorhome and have been to this park probably 8 times. So far we have made it in and out but with some new scratches and a bit of maneuvering. Cell service is pretty bad here. We have Verizon cell phones which usually worked for phone service but sometimes cut out. We have Verizon and AT&T hotspots. AT&T worked the best but not fast enough to stream anything most of the time. There is Wi-Fi offered for a fee but we have not tried that. They also offer cable TV which I believe is free. They have a couple of dog parks, nice common areas, laundry, and a small gym. They have some other clubs and activity rooms but all of those have been closed due to Covid.

    Coronado Trail RV Park 55+

Quiet Adult Oriented CG In The Pines

We spent 8-nights here (June 7-15, 2022). CTRV is a quiet, adult oriented, RV park in the pines of Alpine. This is a very nice, easy access CG with level back-in gravel sites. It is a great base camp to visit the area. There are plenty local attractions: lakes, rivers and streams, wilderness and national forests. Activities include: fishing, biking (wish I brought my mtn bike), hiking/walking and ATV trails. The elk herds out number the cattle– a morning and evening spectacle! We did not make use of the laundry, bathrooms or showers. The WiFi was good as was cell phone reception (we lost both for 2-1/2 days due to a fiber optic cable break near Show Low/Springerville).

The owners, Sherrie and Paul, are awesome! We would definitely stay here again.

(Side note: Coronado Trails Cabins is NOT affiliated with CTRV)

    Alpine Divide Campground

    Camp amid tall ponderosa pines

Wooded wonderland. Fire rings, picnic tables, potable water access and toilets. Elk were bugling at dusk! Large pull in spots fit our 36' class A with slide out just fine. Downside is that it's just off 191 so road noise until 9pm and as of 7am, but not bad.

This is an RV Resort, not a camp ground. The lots are average size and fairly easy to get in to. I’m glad I had a spotter. They have nice amenities including cable TV. There is free WiFi, but only at the office. Dog friendly. It has many park models and seems to be a retirement community. The people were nice. Great place to spend the summer months in Arizona. A bit expensive, but I was here for work so it was paid for.

    Hon-Dah RV Park

Very large CG, mostly full timers

Very large CG with full hookups, level sites, flush toilets and showers. Casino and its restaurants next door. Wild horses venture through the camp in the evening! Spots are pretty close together, it is very full and mostly full timer/long term campers. Staff was helpful and courteous. We did not have a reservation until that morning. It is very busy so advance reservations are the norm. casino offers first timers a players pass with $6 for food and $5 casino credit.

    Apache Creek Campground

    Perfect secluded free stopover

Lovely area in western NM. Many spaces to set up and hunker down for a night or two. The general lack of amenities probably precludes a long term stay for most. Access to the rest of the forest and great hiking on a dirt road headed south. Lower elevation than other areas nearby so it stays snow free through the winter for the most part.

The general store nearby is also a nice plus. No T-Mobile cell service anywhere in the area though.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many RV parks in the region provide ample room between sites. At Springerville RV Park, guests appreciate that "The spots are big and spread out. Clean laundry, clean grounds. Good electricity and water pressure."

Winter preparations: Campgrounds in this high-elevation area take specific measures for cold weather. One reviewer noted at Springerville RV Park: "The water spickets are in an under ground, green lawn sprinklers control box with an insulation blankets. Because this place does get snow in the winters."

Fresh facilities: Several newer parks in the area offer updated amenities. A camper at Gristmill Farms RV Park appreciated that the park was "New and clean. They're still putting the place together but all hookups are ready to go. Great online reservation system. Even same day."

What you should know

Cell service considerations: Connectivity varies by location and provider. At Springerville RV Park, one camper reported "Verizon 5G is strong but slowish. Close to town. Right on the highway but it was quiet at night."

Limited amenities at some sites: Not all parks offer full facilities. At Come Back Ranch Animal Sanctuary RV Parking, there are only five sites available for RVs, though they do offer 50-amp electrical service and sewer hookups.

Seasonal variations: Visitor experiences change dramatically with the seasons. "Temps are warm in June and then cool down significantly after the Monsoon rains begin," notes a reviewer from Venture In RV Resort in Show Low, approximately 40 minutes from Springerville.

Tips for camping with families

Look for parks with room for activities: Some parks offer open spaces where children can play safely. At Springerville RV Park, one camper observed there's "the very big flat oval drive way around the pull through area the kids could ride their bikes around, have seen a few doing that."

Check for playground availability: Many parks in the region lack dedicated play areas. A Springerville RV Park guest mentioned, "A playground would have gotten the 5 star," indicating this amenity is desired but not always available at area campgrounds.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling requirements: Many parks in the region have gravel pads that require minimal leveling. At Springerville RV Park, "The whole campground is graded level with fresh gravel each spring. Which makes it nice to park and to get leavel you just have to raise or lower your tongue jack as the case may be!"

Plan for larger rigs: Several parks accommodate big rigs, but entry can sometimes be challenging. One experienced RVer at Venture In noted: "Even though the sites are wide the RV parking area is between the patio and the sewer connection which is about 11ft wide. When you combine that with landscaping and patio covers on some of the park models and getting in some sites can be real challenging for a larger rig."

Consider a pull-through site: For easier parking, select a pull-through when available. "Just an overnighter, very quiet, looks to very new. Good internet reception. Very level site, we didn't have to unhook," reports a camper who stayed at Springerville RV Park.
