Accessed via a rough dirt and gravel road off Highway 67, Forest Road 611 sits within Kaibab National Forest north of the Grand Canyon's North Rim, offering free dispersed camping with no reservations required. The road runs about six miles from the turnoff, and the drive takes 30 to 40 minutes depending on your vehicle. A vault toilet is available near the Kaibab trailhead roughly halfway down, but there are no other facilities at the camping areas themselves.
Sites are distributed along the road in two distinct settings: some sit in the forest with tree cover, while others open onto the canyon rim with direct sightlines over the Grand Canyon and surrounding valley. Spots on the right side of the road, heading in, face the overlook. The area near the road's end requires high clearance and four-wheel drive, and those sites draw the most competition. Most spots can accommodate travel trailers, though big rig options are more limited. Cell service is inconsistent, with AT&T reported as spotty to absent, and one reviewer noted two bars of LTE, suggesting results vary by carrier and location.
Firewood is not hard to come by. Sandra W. noted "plenty of fallen limbs and trees for firewood" throughout the area. Mosquitoes can be active from late afternoon into the evening during summer months, so insect repellent is worth packing. Campers planning a longer stay around the North Rim area can browse camping near North Rim for additional options. Kaibab NF Dispersed off NF-611A is located just to the west for those who want a nearby alternative.
