Accessible via Interstate 8 at milepost 147.5, this free BLM dispersed camping area requires extreme caution when exiting the highway due to the lack of designated off-ramps or warning signs. The two-track access road passes through a gate and demands high-clearance vehicles, making it unsuitable for RVs or travel trailers. Road #8042a provides the best surface conditions with gravel extending 1.2 miles to an abandoned windmill and tank area, where campers find sites positioned behind a ridge that reduces highway truck noise. The area includes a rock borrow pit along the route and an information kiosk at the entrance. No water is available on-site, and the isolated location sees little traffic compared to other camping spots outside Stanfield. Solo camping is not recommended due to security concerns in this remote corridor.
