Rough access roads lead to this Forest Service campground in Apache National Forest, where no pets are allowed and seasonal operations run from May through October. The forested setting sits near both creek and lake features, providing drinking water, restrooms, and picnic tables for campers willing to navigate the challenging approach. Sites accommodate those seeking a more remote experience away from heavily trafficked areas.
For campers wanting easier access, Deer Creek Campground sits just northeast with similar forest surroundings. Additional options include campgrounds near Alpine for those preferring more developed facilities.
Description
Racoon Campground was developed to replace some campsites that were located too close to the creek. The East Fork meanders through the forested valley shaded by tall ponderosa pines and bordered by grasses, alders, and streamside hardwoods.
