Did not use any facilities. Nice level , spacious sites. Verizon & ATT had zut coverage but Starlink worked great
$12 ( or $6 for Senior pass)
It was a great place to stop after navigating winding roads on the Taylor highway. Nicely wooded spots
Owner, Tim was awesome. Very friendly and works hard every day to make sure this is a successful campground.
They have wifi, bathhouse, level camp spots, laundry, a dog play area, store and cafe with breakfast, lunch and dinner!. Breakfast has their famous sourdough pancakes...
They do a pancake toss every night which is a fun little thing. Winner gets $10 toward breakfast. Lots of fun. We had a great time here!!
The RV park is clean, well organized, and able to accommodate tents to class a’s. Full hookup available with bath house if required. The staff was very friendly and provided local recommendations within walking distance.
I stayed here in July 2019 and had a great place. Vanessa is an impeccable host who really cares about those who stay at her place. She has an eclectic collection of campsites/cabins. I personally stayed in the ambulance and was quite comfortable after a long ride. Also, the sauna is a welcome respite for tired bones. Everytime i go to Alaska, I will be staying at Thompson's Eagle Claw.
Beautiful campground, just make sure you park on the far side by the river if you are a light sleeper. You can see the highway from the campground. FYI bathrooms have no hand sanitizer
Just like everything that’s been ever said about anywhere that they’ve like, this place was amazing and just great at everything they do definitely a must place to visit
Rv park and cabins great food great place to visit use it as vase camp for the adventure that lies ahead
Gateway was a greAt place to hang up the boots for a few days, will definitely look forward to coming back through here at a later date. Friendly service from the staff and great conversation.
Amazing place, amazing service and a great place to stop by and check out, a definitely must see
Loved the cleanliness and near perfect beds, the showers were amazing also especially after weeks of being on the road.. total recommendation
This place stuck out as beautiful place, felt like this is what you would see on tv shows like alone.. totally recommend the drive
Although the state currently lists the campground as open, visiting there in mid-June I found that it looked essentially abandoned. There was no fee collection, the toilets were locked, and the fire ring in the site I chose apparently had no fires since last year, as it was covered in dried leaves. Other sites were similar. Nobody else camped there the night I stayed. Overall it was a slightly creepy experience.
That said, it's a lovely location with heavy foliage providing substantial privacy between sites, and several sites are adjacent to the creek (which was running a bit high and fast for decent fishing the night I was there). The sites were large, with picnic tables and fire rings at each one. The mosquito situation was about normal for that part of Alaska (bring bug dope). Water is available, but boil before using.
Not sure what the heck is going on with its status but I would guess it's pretty nice when it's being maintained. That said, I'm not sure I'll be back - it's about 40 miles from the Eagle Trail SRS, which is really nice.
This is by far a very nice and fun campground. Family running business. They do everything to you to feel good. Olso, they organize competition...fun, fun, fun....!
Well kept, lots of options for campsites. Just be aware, there are restrooms right by the front entrance, so if you camp close to the entrance you may be woken up by people passing through in the night to use the restroom.
Stayed one night in June 2019. Owners were very friendly and engaged with everyone. There is a fun nightly “World Famous” pancake toss that everyone is encouraged to participate in. Sink a pancake in the bucket and win free breakfast. Breakfast in the restaurant was fantastic. Campground is in the woods. Full hookups available as well as a dump station, RV/car was station, hot showers, group fire pit, and market. Close proximity to fuel in town. Overall great place
This campground isn't directly on the West Fork of the Dennison, but it's an easy 1/4 mile walk. The campsites each have picnic tables and fire rings and you'll need to bring your own firewood. There are individual campsites in the upper part of the campground, and there's a parking area for RVs, with an accessible pit toilet, just below. It's probably a little far from Chicken for people looking for tourist activities but it's a lovely place to stay a few days.
Because I was there as early as I was, the grayling fishing was okay but not spectacular. The fish were skinny (winters up here are very long) and you had to fish pretty deep to find them.
I was there in May, and weather blows through the 40-Mile country very quickly - it can be a bit unpredictable. We had snow at one point. Parts of the Taylor Highway can be a bit sketchy, particularly early and late in the season, but the section between the Alcan and Chicken tends to be in good shape and highly driveable.
Very spacious campsite next to a creek. Plenty of area to explore. You can even find various garnets and interesting rocks within the creek.
Popular campsite about 30 min from Tok. Spacious enough to have some privacy but usually a very busy spot during the summers.
Excellent campsite along the Alaska highway and especially a great place to stop on your way into or out of Canada.
