Whiskey Point Cabins & RV Park

    Great views and amenities

Our second time staying here. There is an amazing ocean and volcano view off a common ground area with a picnic table and fire pit. Eagles soar overhead. Sites are close together but have water, electricity, a small table and fire pit. We didn’t stay in the cabins but they look nice and the property, general store, and washing facilities seem well maintained. Recommend for a night or two when visiting Homer.

Johnson Lake State Recreation Area Campground

    Johnson Lake: Family Camping

Following the shoreline of Johnson Lake, this tidy little campground makes for a fun summer stop with the family. A boat launch provides water access to anyone looking to play with jet skis, motor boats, or canoes and kayaks. shallow warmer waters provide for good swimming as well.

Stocked by fish and game; the later summer months can provide good fishing for Rainbow Trout. Both shore and boat fishing can provide success to the right angler. Just gotta bring the right set up!

A nicely set up day use area is avaIlable nearby as well. Large awnings cover anywhere from 2 to 4 picnic tables providing dry areas. Fire pits and built in BBQ‘s are close by each awning.

Late June and July finds this campground very busy, especially during hot days when locals are looking to escape the sun. noise levels and lake activity can get pretty high at these times. The rest of the year these issues are less likely.

One of my favorIte campgrounds growing up, I could be found here most summer days with a lIne in the water or swimmIng. Now a days I use the day use area occasionally for gatherIngs wIth friends and some BBQin. I tend to avoid the campgrounds durring the summer months because of the overcrowding, but late season camping and fishing can be peaceful and quiet.

    Need to knows

    • 51 total spaces.
    • Good for both tent and motor home camping.
    • Well water and dumpsters are provided.
    • Bathrooms are available.
    • Excellent Trout fishing in later summer months.
    • Camp hosts can be intrusive.

Whiskey Point Cabins & RV Park

    Outstanding Experience

Traveling south on AK-1 was busy but straightforward, and the campground was easy to access on the right just before Anchor Point. Since we were going to arrive early, we called ahead to see if we could come in at 12:30 PM instead of their 3:00 PM check-in. They said yes, and check-in was a breeze at the small office, which also sold T-shirts, hats, fishing supplies, and a few sundries. We stayed in Site A, a back-in with FHUs (30 AMP). The gravel/sand area in front of Sites A, B, and C was wide enough for easy maneuvering, though because it had been raining we used 4-wheel drive so our 40’ 5th wheel toy hauler wouldn’t leave ruts. The sites were fairly close together, but not uncomfortably so. What made Sites A–C special was the ocean view from the patios. Site C only fit a short rig. Site A, on the end, also bordered a shared common area where guests could gather to enjoy the water views and sunsets from a high hill perch. Utilities were well placed, with water pressure at 35–40 PSI. Verizon service gave us 2 bars of LTE, while T-Mobile was limited to 1 bar roaming. The campground did not have WiFi, but Starlink had a clear shot thanks to the open sky and trees only along the perimeter. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay—especially the ocean view from Site A.

    Baycrest RV Park

    Good Option for the Area

Enjoyed this location and without reservations, glad to get it. Had reservation at spit campground that was in horrible shape, un-level, crowded...so passed and took a risk on this one. Very accommodating folks. As others have said, the campground is a good stop with wonderful views if the weather cooperates (it did when I was there in August). With a truck/camper combo, dropping the camper there and using the truck to get to the spit and Homer was 15-20 min. Place is well maintained and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly with campground and local information. Found lots to do in the area. Campground is full/crowded in the summer, but site was nice, functional albeit a challenge to back in with the width of the road at my site. Just off the highway so some noise but tolerable. Decent washer/dryers and showers behind office but no food/although that wasn't an issue as we grocery shopped and ate out at some great seafood places (must do). Incident: There is only one road in/out of Homer. There was a bad accident that closed the road for 24 hours so we had to wait another day to get out. Homer and the Kenai was a great visit.

    Alaskan Anglers RV Resort

4.5 stars for this RV park. They have everything you need. Laundry/showers/bathrooms. 50/30 amp electric, sewer, water. Small dog run. They have a fish charter service, as well as fish cleaning stations. They also fillet, vacuum pack freeze and ship your catch. We really enjoyed ourselves here.

Whiskey Point Cabins & RV Park

    Awesome view

This is a great little RV campground that also has a few cabins that are awesome. Two of the cabins overlook the bluff and Cook Inlet. HaLee, the owner, was very friendly and attentive.

Guide to Homer

Cabin rentals near Homer, Alaska provide waterfront accommodations with options ranging from off-grid public use cabins to fully-furnished vacation homes. Winter availability varies significantly between properties, with some cabins operating only during summer months while others remain open year-round. Alaska's Kenai Peninsula offers notable temperature variations throughout the year, with summer averages of 55-65°F and winter temperatures regularly dropping below freezing.

What to do

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Homer cabin accommodations offer prime locations for wildlife spotting. At Glamping Adventures in Alaska, guests can observe local wildlife from their accommodations before exploring the area's hiking trails. The property features both cabins and glamping setups, with amenities including drinking water, firewood, and outdoor picnic tables.

Explore Kachemak Bay: Kachemak Bay State Park cabins provide electric hookups, water connections, and sewer facilities despite their remote setting. The Sea Star Cove Public Use Cabin and neighboring cabins offer water access, with guests able to arrange boat transportation to reach these facilities. The park requires advance reservations for all cabin stays.

Fishing excursions: Cabin properties often serve as convenient bases for fishing trips. The waterfront location at Whiskey Point Cabins & RV Park makes it popular with anglers. "This is a great little RV campground that also has a few cabins that are awesome. Two of the cabins overlook the bluff and Cook Inlet," notes Michael H. The on-site store stocks fishing supplies for guests.

What campers like

Convenient Homer access: Properties offer varying proximity to Homer's attractions. "About 20 min drive from Homer spit. Sites are a little tight but the views are amazing!" reports Brad H. about Baycrest RV Park, which operates seasonally from May through mid-September with cabin options available alongside RV sites.

Ocean views: Waterfront cabin locations provide scenic vantages. Jennifer G. describes Whiskey Point: "There is an amazing ocean and volcano view off a common ground area with a picnic table and fire pit. Eagles soar overhead." The property maintains both cabins and RV sites with shared access to viewing areas.

Clean facilities: Cabin maintenance standards receive consistent praise in reviews. At Alaska Adventure Cabins, THE A. reports having "the most magical experience" during their stay, while the property earns recognition for cleanliness and maintenance standards. The cabins include drinking water and electric hookups, with showers available on-site.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Advance bookings are essential during peak summer months (May-September), particularly for waterfront properties. At Baycrest RV Park, Connor D. notes: "The view was the best part, but it felt cramped. Decent location, only about a 15 minute drive to the spit." The park accommodates both cabins and RVs, with standard hookups available.

Seasonal operations: Many cabin operations close during winter months. Whiskey Point runs May through September, while Baycrest operates from early May to mid-September. Kachemak Bay State Park cabins remain accessible year-round but require different transportation arrangements during winter months when water access may be complicated by weather conditions.

Supply considerations: Cabin renters should confirm what supplies they need to bring. Rural properties particularly require planning. Michael H. mentions that Whiskey Point's owner was "very friendly and attentive," providing information about necessary supplies. Cabin rentals at Bear Paw Adventure properties typically require guests to bring most supplies as they operate in more remote settings.

Tips for camping with families

Space requirements: Family groups should evaluate cabin size when booking. Bear Den Vacation Home @ Bear Paw Adventure offers larger accommodations suitable for families. Joe C. reports: "Bear paw adventure terrific time to enjoy with the family nice weather made it enjoyable." Smaller cabins may accommodate 2-3 people while vacation homes can sleep larger groups.

Access to town: Consider proximity to grocery stores and supplies when booking cabins with children. Steve C. notes about Baycrest RV Park: "Found lots to do in the area. Campground is full/crowded in the summer, but site was nice, functional albeit a challenge to back in with the width of the road at my site." The property's location approximately 15-20 minutes from Homer's main attractions allows for supply runs.

Bathroom facilities: Cabin bathroom accommodations vary widely between properties. Some include private facilities while others utilize shared campground restrooms. At Whiskey Point, Name reports: "Whiskey Point is a small, full hookup, amazing camp ground with the nicest caretakers." The property maintains toilet facilities for cabin guests who don't have private bathrooms.

Tips from RVers

Site positioning: RVers utilizing cabins as additional accommodations should consider site layout. MickandKarla W. detail their experience at Whiskey Point Cabins & RV Park: "The gravel/sand area in front of Sites A, B, and C was wide enough for easy maneuvering, though because it had been raining we used 4-wheel drive so our 40' 5th wheel toy hauler wouldn't leave ruts." They recommend Site A for its ocean views and extra space.

Road access considerations: The single road access to Homer can impact travel plans during emergencies. Steve C. recounts: "There is only one road in/out of Homer. There was a bad accident that closed the road for 24 hours so we had to wait another day to get out." Travelers should build flexibility into their schedules when visiting the area, particularly when towing or driving large vehicles.
