    Overview

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge guarantees breathtaking scenery and an unforgettable experience for visitors staying in one of the 14 rustic cabins located in Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Getting to the cabin can be a thrilling adventure in itself, as most of them require the use of boats, aircraft, hiking or skiing. The grudging withdrawal of the Harding Ice Field has helped to make the lands of the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge a "miniature Alaska." Today, the refuge includes examples of every major Alaska habitat type. The refuge is an Alaska in miniature in its diversity of wildlife, as well.

    Recreation

Eager anglers can pursue chinook, sockeye, coho and pink salmon; as well as Dolly Varden char, rainbow trout, and arctic grayling. The refuge is also home to brown and black bears, caribou, Dall sheep, mountain goats, wolves, lynx, wolverines, eagles and thousands of shorebirds and waterfowl, not to mention the mighty Alaska-Yukon moose that the refuge was originally established (as the Kenai National Moose Range) to protect.

    Natural Features

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge spans 1.9 million acres along the western Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. The region includes the western slopes of the Kenai Mountains, forested lowlands along Cook Inlet, rivers, lakes and wetlands. To the east is Chugach National Forest and southeast is Kenai Fjords National Park.

        Alaskan Anglers RV Resort

4.5 stars for this RV park. They have everything you need. Laundry/showers/bathrooms. 50/30 amp electric, sewer, water. Small dog run. They have a fish charter service, as well as fish cleaning stations. They also fillet, vacuum pack freeze and ship your catch. We really enjoyed ourselves here.

        Johnson Lake State Recreation Area

        Campground right on the pond.

Used to party at this lake as a local in the late 90’s early 2000’s.

Nice little tent camping campground. There used to have spots big enough for RV’s but no hook ups.

        Right by the river

Have stairs and have access to river to fish. Showers are coin operated and $1.50 for 7 minutes. Toilets are available. No standard picnic tables expect for deluxe sites. Campsite is right across Soldotna visitor center. Not very scenic but location is great!

        Not really our thing

We’re not big rv park people so it wasn’t really our thing but as far as rv parks it was nice. The restaurant being right there was great we were able to enjoy cocktails and dinner on the deck

        Great views and amenities

Our second time staying here. There is an amazing ocean and volcano view off a common ground area with a picnic table and fire pit. Eagles soar overhead. Sites are close together but have water, electricity, a small table and fire pit. We didn’t stay in the cabins but they look nice and the property, general store, and washing facilities seem well maintained. Recommend for a night or two when visiting Homer.

Campground is well maintained. About 20 min drive from Homer spit. Sites are a little tight but the views are amazing!

        Amazing

Whiskey Point is a small, full hookup, amazing camp ground with the nicest caretakers. The view is spectacular and we had the entire campground to ourselves.

        Good Option for the Area

Enjoyed this location and without reservations, glad to get it. Had reservation at spit campground that was in horrible shape, un-level, crowded...so passed and took a risk on this one. Very accommodating folks. As others have said, the campground is a good stop with wonderful views if the weather cooperates (it did when I was there in August). With a truck/camper combo, dropping the camper there and using the truck to get to the spit and Homer was 15-20 min. Place is well maintained and the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly with campground and local information. Found lots to do in the area. Campground is full/crowded in the summer, but site was nice, functional albeit a challenge to back in with the width of the road at my site. Just off the highway so some noise but tolerable. Decent washer/dryers and showers behind office but no food/although that wasn't an issue as we grocery shopped and ate out at some great seafood places (must do). Incident: There is only one road in/out of Homer. There was a bad accident that closed the road for 24 hours so we had to wait another day to get out. Homer and the Kenai was a great visit.

        Inlet View

Great for a quick stay, full hook ups, beautiful view when the weather cooperates, but it’s 9 miles from town, so if you’re in a motor home you’ll need a tow vehicle

        Great view but tight squeeze

The view was the best part, but it felt cramped. Decent location, only about a 15 minute drive to the spit.

Camping with a good fishing problem

A good place just to rest. It’s not a well maintained place; There is a porta-john on-site, no toilets or showers. Not many electric hooks ups. It looks like 110v no water or sewer. Coffee and restaurant gets an Alaskan 5 stars

        Awesome view

This is a great little RV campground that also has a few cabins that are awesome. Two of the cabins overlook the bluff and Cook Inlet. HaLee, the owner, was very friendly and attentive.

Fun place with restaurant, bar, store, liquor, to-go foods.

Great base location in the central Kenai Peninsula. Easy commute to Seward, Kenai, Sterling, (1 hour) or Homer (2 hours). Many excellent trails all around the mountain and Kenai and Russian River area where Gwins Lodge and Roadhouse is located. Primitive only. Porta-John. Bring water. Fire wood for sale as well as liquor, beer and wine on-site. MJ 420 store 1 mile east. Fun place with restaurant, bar, store, liquor, to-go foods.

I don’t hate this RV Park which is saying a lot. There are 60 sites and this RV park is open from May 15 until Labor Day. You can reserve RV and tent sites online but you must call for cabin rentals.. This is right in the heart of Soldotna and close to anything you might have forgotten.
