Best Campgrounds near Camden, AL

Camden's riverside and lake-oriented camping areas encompass a mix of state and federal facilities primarily positioned along Alabama River waters. The Alabama River Lakes system includes multiple campgrounds with Millers Ferry Campground and Roland Cooper State Park providing the most developed facilities. These areas mainly accommodate both tent and RV camping, with Roland Cooper also offering cabin options. Corps of Engineers manages several campgrounds in the region including Chilatchee Creek and Prairie Creek campgrounds, creating a system of mixed-use campgrounds suitable for various camping styles.

Access to campgrounds varies widely, with some locations requiring navigation on rough dirt roads that can become challenging after rainfall. Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though amenities and services may be limited during winter months. "I thought I was lost I had traveled so far off the beaten path. Suddenly I see a sign!" noted one visitor about reaching Chilatchee Creek Campground. The remote nature of many sites means limited cell service in parts of the region, particularly at sites like Elm Bluff and Chilatchee Creek. Water access drives much of the camping activity, with fishing and boating being primary attractions at most developed campgrounds, many of which include boat ramps.

The waterfront camping experience defines this region's appeal, with most campgrounds positioned along lakes or the Alabama River. Several Corps of Engineers developed campgrounds feature concrete or gravel pads with water and electric hookups, making them suitable for both recreational vehicles and tent camping. Despite their development level, many maintain a natural setting with good site spacing. A visitor to Millers Ferry observed that the campground offers "large, well-kept sites" with plenty of privacy between campsites. Bathhouse facilities vary significantly between properties, with some receiving praise for cleanliness while others are described as functional but outdated. Wildlife viewing opportunities include birds, turtles, and occasional alligator sightings, particularly at the more secluded camping areas like Chilatchee Creek.

COE Alabama River Lakes Chilatchee Creek Campground

    Weekend trip

Wonderful remote campground. Definitely has that out of the way, secluded vibe. It was very peaceful. The sites are nice level concrete and gravel pads, many of which have beautiful water front views. There are provisions for fishing as well. The camp host is very helpful. The bathhouses are minimal and outdated, but very clean. Would definitely come back.

COE Demopolis Lake Foscue Creek Campground

    Peacefull and Cheap

As an advid RVer its always hard to meet the title requirements. The park is easy to access off Hwy 80 and we chose a pill through {site 17} the site was clean and free of leaves, the park host even called us the morning of and let us know the site was open, she asked for a 1 hour heads up to be ready for our check in, all was ready when we arrived, she checked our senior pass and received a great deal at $12 per night. We had plenty of T-mobile service and streamed to our TV with no problem. Be prepared fro some mosquito action at around 5PM, so streaming TV will come in handy. Will book again this park, very pleased.

    Claiborne Lake Damsite West Bank

    Quite and Relaxing

The camp ground has two areas along the access Road. Both areas are first come first served. These are sites without power or water hookups, or self contained rustic camping. Sites would allow car, van or larger campers/RV’s. No running water, but toilet facilities. Near dam and lock on ALABAMA river.

    Claiborne Lake Damsite West Bank

Not well cared for but convenient to get to

There was a lot of trash while I was here, there are bins but people didn’t use them? Or they did and nobody has come to get the trash bags? At least a truck beds worth of trash right now. However I am incredibly grateful for this spot, It’s raining and it is a paved easy road to get down in this land of low lying dirt roads, that was clutch. There’s a really nasty vault toilet down the hill, surprisingly there was toilet paper and what looks to be some trails but since it’s raining I probably will not partake.

Cool dam to watch if you drive down the hill too where the bathrooms are. It’s a shame that those who have used it have abused it, I’m going to clean it up the best I can, it could be a really pretty place.

There was nobody here in December on a rainy day. There are 2 loops - 1 for tents and smaller rigs and 1 that anything could fit. I wonder if this place gets busy, it is well used.

COE Alabama River Lakes Chilatchee Creek Campground

    Piece of nature heaven!

Level gavel site! Lots of trees So cool to see lighting bugs at night! Lot of sites on the water not ours though. Trails and nature for walking dogs. Nice playground. Laundry and bathroom needs updated, but clean.Fire~ring, picnic table, and water & electric at each sight. Not a good signal with T-Mobile. Thought we were lost because the dirt road to get to the campground was very narrow and rough. Once arrived near the campground it was fine!

    Millers Ferry Campground

    Great RV Lakeside Park

Third time at Millers Ferry! Water & electric hook ups . Good water pressure, dump station on property. Our site was paved and easily accommodated our 40 ft Rv/ fifth wheel & Dooley. Each site has a fire ring/with top grate to grill, picnic table, shepherd hook.Bathroom clean another one under construction. Nice playground. $1 for washer and dryer. Lots of sites are gravel as well, but level. Lots of people fish-parking for trucks & trailers at water ramp on property. No dog park, but lots of nature walks and paved roads to walk on. Oh yes, Lots of mosquitoes & ants, bring bug spray for a more pleasant stay! Shopping in town about 15-20 minutes away. Several good restaurants. There is a Piggly Wiggly, True Value Hardware, and Dollar stores. Approx 20-30 min to Walmart, next town over. Public lake for swimming, on site, with playground!

    Isaac Creek

    Awesome Campground

The campground is surrounded by creeks, rivers, and hunting land owned by the Army Corps of Engineers. I had a wonderful experience there along with friendly staff. They kept the bathrooms and showers clean.

Access to many campgrounds varies by season, with some facilities like Chilatchee Creek operating from March through September. Year-round options include Millers Ferry and Roland Cooper State Park. The road conditions can be challenging at certain locations, particularly after rain. "Don't let the partial dirt road fool you. What a find. Secluded, quiet, plenty of wildlife and great fishing," noted one visitor about Chilatchee Creek Campground. Many campgrounds provide water and electric hookups, though sewer connections are limited. Bathroom facilities vary widely across locations, from well-maintained to basic. Summer temperatures can be quite hot, making waterfront camping especially desirable for cooling breezes.
