Yellowstone National Park is the home of almost 3,500 square miles of nationally protected lands. From rushing waterfalls, roaring rivers, soaring peaks, and marvels of geology such as Old Faithful, the park has sights not even imagination even conjure. For this reason, hundreds of thousands visit every year. Plan ahead and experience once-in-a-lifetime camping in Wyoming in the process. 


Although abundant, camping in Wyoming is extremely sought after, especially near the park. Twelve campgrounds within Yellowstone National Park provide adventurers with plentiful options, but planning ahead is vital. The Canyon Campground allows easy access to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a picture-perfect waterfall and river vista in the north-central region. Visit Artist’s Point and hike the 300 feet down to the lower falls to feel the rush of the Yellowstone River. 


For a more touristy experience, snag a site in the Madison Campground. Being one of the largest in the park and less than 20 miles from the famous geyser Old Faithful, this area is a go-to for first time visitors. Sitting at an elevation just below 7,000 feet, the crisp mountain air will refresh. This area gets a lot of traffic, so pack in your patience and remember that the parks are for everyone to enjoy. 


Camping in Wyoming also gives the chance to get off the grid. Grand Teton National Park is directly to the south of Yellowstone and allows for some easy-access backpacking. When done right, you can avoid the droves of humanity that flock to the Greater Yellowstone region. 


For an easy trek into the backcountry, get a scenic spot along Leigh Lake or String Lake. These camping sites are often booked months in advance, so get them quick! A hidden gem tucked in the shadow of Mount Moran is Bearpaw Lake and is also relatively accessible from the same trail. Remember your bear spray and enjoy some genuine Wyoming camping!

There are kayaks available for use during your stay at the pond! We also offer fishing with a license present! We ask that what you take in, you take out with you. Please ask about having campfires, we try to protect our landscape by controlling fires when they are not permitted. We are in the beautiful Black Hills of Wyoming, come enjoy a peaceful, relaxing adventure at Kara Creek Ranch!

We are a bit off the beaten path, but if you enjoy nature like we do, Camp Barlow is the perfect spot for you! The campground is nestled in a peaceful meadow draw surrounded by 75 acres of rolling hills and trees - all of which you are free to hike! We built our campsites to be spacious. Each site is fairly level and is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. We currently do not have hookups but we do offer water (shared) to use during your stay.



Our place requires quite a bit of work to keep everything running, but we love to share our little slice of bliss. We are usually around the place and willing to assist when needed, however we do take a hands-off approach running the campground to make it as relaxed as possible. On your arrival date, there is no need to check-in. Simply drive to your campsite and make yourself at home!

Welcome to Wickiup Cabins where adventure or relaxation can go hand in hand.  With 20 modernized rustic cabins located on our property, our cabins have all the amenities of home.  Stocked with towels, linens and even cookware for the kitchen, each cabin also has a full bathroom. We have what you are looking for.  Perhaps, a wedding destination, family reunion, small company retreat or a destination for relaxing while enjoying our mountain streams and quiet peaceful settings under our 80 foot spruce trees.
It is here you can also come for hunting, ATV riding, rock climbing above and below us, mountain biking, fishing, riding the Mickelson Trail, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse or historic Lead Deadwood to name some of our Black Hills offerings. 

We are the destination without the cost of a ticket for every ride you have while with us. 

We are located central to the Northern Black Hills at the top of Spearfish Canyon 10 minutes west of Lead Deadwood on Highway 85.  Wickiup has the monopoly on Spearfish Creek.  Long gone are the cabin camps that once provided memories for children to older folks never to be forgotten.  Warm summer days of tubing, fishing, panning for those gold flakes or just skipping rocks.

Reuter Campground, located on a hillside of Ponderosa pine and grassy understory, offering a peaceful setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in northeastern Wyoming's Black Hills National Forest. The campground is named after Emil Reuter, a German immigrant who made his way into the canyon in 1893 and spent the rest of his life prospecting in the area. Recreation Black Hills National Forest offers a multitude of recreational opportunites throughout all seasons. Hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and riding off-highway vehicles are popular in summer and early autumn. Winter landscapes are ideal for snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling. From this campground, visitors can access the Sundance Trail System from Reuter Trailhead. The secluded trails of this system weave through a network of densely forested canyons and open ridges that form the Bearlodge Mountains. Some ridge tops look out to the Custer Expedition Route, Devils Tower, and the Twin Missouri Buttes. Elk, deer and turkey are some of the more common wildlife seen along the trail. Parts of the trail system have existed since the 1800s. As routes to reliable water and the only access to some parts of the Bearlodge Mountains, they played a key role in the rich mining history of the area. The trail system is maintained for hiking, horseback riding, bicycling and cross-country skiing. Motorized vehicle traffic is not allowed; however, some portions of trails follow existing Forest Service roads open for motorized use. Facilities Reuter Campground has standard sites able to accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. The campground is equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water. Electrical hook-ups are not available. Natural Features Stretching across northeastern Wyoming and western South Dakota, Black Hills National Forest encompasses nearly 1.25 million acres of rugged rock formations, canyons and gulches, open grassland parks, tumbling streams, deep blue lakes, and unique caves. Derived from the Lakota language, the words "Paha Sapa," meaning "hills that are black," honor the dark, pine-covered hills rising several thousand feet above the surrounding prairie. Bighorn sheep navigate mountainous terrain, while elk, deer and pronghorn gather in forests and prairies. Bald eagles, hawks, osprey, peregrine falcon, and hundreds of other bird species can be found in the forest, especially along streams, lakes and rivers. Mountain lions, although rarely seen, also call this area home. Nearby Attractions Warren Peak Lookout Tower, approximately 4 miles north of the campground on Forest Service Road 838, provides a panoramic view of the landscape extending into South Dakota and Wyoming. Devils Tower National Monument is also a great location to visit. Setting up your own campsite away from developed fee sites, also known as dispersed camping, is allowed on most of the Forest for a maximum of 14 days in any 60-day period. However, around developed reservoirs and campgrounds, camping is allowed only in designated areas. Check with the closest Forest Service office for specific information.

General rules:

Camp 100 feet away from any creek or stream and 1/2 mile away from developed recreation sites, including campgrounds and picnic areas.
Motorized vehicles allowed 300 feet off of roads as shown on the Motor Vehicle Use Map (dots) for dispersed camping on the Black Hills National Forest. 
Around developed reservoirs and campgrounds, camping is allowed only in designated campsites.
Can camp for a maximum of 14 days in any 60-day period. 
No open campfires in South Dakota portions of the national forest.
Open campfires are permitted in Wyoming portions of the national forest, unless a special order prohibiting such is in effect. 
Check with the closest Forest Service office for more specific information about dispersed camping.
