Reuter Campground, located on a hillside of Ponderosa pine and grassy understory, offering a peaceful setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in northeastern Wyoming's Black Hills National Forest. The campground is named after Emil Reuter, a German immigrant who made his way into the canyon in 1893 and spent the rest of his life prospecting in the area. Recreation Black Hills National Forest offers a multitude of recreational opportunites throughout all seasons. Hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and riding off-highway vehicles are popular in summer and early autumn. Winter landscapes are ideal for snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling. From this campground, visitors can access the Sundance Trail System from Reuter Trailhead. The secluded trails of this system weave through a network of densely forested canyons and open ridges that form the Bearlodge Mountains. Some ridge tops look out to the Custer Expedition Route, Devils Tower, and the Twin Missouri Buttes. Elk, deer and turkey are some of the more common wildlife seen along the trail. Parts of the trail system have existed since the 1800s. As routes to reliable water and the only access to some parts of the Bearlodge Mountains, they played a key role in the rich mining history of the area. The trail system is maintained for hiking, horseback riding, bicycling and cross-country skiing. Motorized vehicle traffic is not allowed; however, some portions of trails follow existing Forest Service roads open for motorized use. Facilities Reuter Campground has standard sites able to accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. The campground is equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water. Natural Features Stretching across northeastern Wyoming and western South Dakota, Black Hills National Forest encompasses nearly 1.25 million acres of rugged rock formations, canyons and gulches, open grassland parks, tumbling streams, deep blue lakes, and unique caves. Derived from the Lakota language, the words "Paha Sapa," meaning "hills that are black," honor the dark, pine-covered hills rising several thousand feet above the surrounding prairie. Bighorn sheep navigate mountainous terrain, while elk, deer and pronghorn gather in forests and prairies. Reuter Campground

Iron Creek Lake is located in an untouched area of the pristine Black Hills west of scenic Spearfish Canyon. While it is off the beaten tourism path, a trip to the lake is just a 20-minute excursion south of Spearfish on a well-maintained gravel road. The lake was created through a WPA project to create jobs in the mid 1930s and to provide a recreation site in Lawrence County. The trail circling the lake is just about one mile in length, making the lake small enough to prohibit wakes and high-speed watercraft. The atmosphere is quiet and oriented towards families.

Iron Creek Lake offers tent and RV camping with some electrical hookups available. The cost is $17 per night for a tent site for up to 4 people in the same immediate family, $5 extra per person above four. Campers/RVs cost $20 per site for up to 4 family members plus $5 extra per person above four. Electricity is $5 more per night, is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and may require extension cords depending on the site. Dogs are welcome but also cost $5 extra per dog per night in the campground. Dogs must be leashed at all times and are not permitted on the beach or in the swimming area. Some sites can also be rented on a monthly basis for a special rate.

Explore the great outdoors with your own private pond! We offer one spot for either tents or campers on a private pond. You will be off the grid, with no hookups available. There are kayaks available for use during your stay at the pond! We also offer fishing with a license present! We ask that what you take in, you take out with you. Please ask about having campfires, we try to protect our landscape by controlling fires when they are not permitted. We are in the beautiful Black Hills of Wyoming, come enjoy a peaceful, relaxing adventure at Kara Creek Ranch!

It is here you can also come for hunting, ATV riding, rock climbing above and below us, mountain biking, fishing, riding the Mickelson Trail, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse or historic Lead Deadwood to name some of our Black Hills offerings. 

We are the destination without the cost of a ticket for every ride you have while with us. 

We are located central to the Northern Black Hills at the top of Spearfish Canyon 10 minutes west of Lead Deadwood on Highway 85.  Wickiup has the monopoly on Spearfish Creek.  Long gone are the cabin camps that once provided memories for children to older folks never to be forgotten.  Warm summer days of tubing, fishing, panning for those gold flakes or just skipping rocks.

## Overview

Dutchman Campground, located in a shady Ponderosa pine forested area on the northeast edge of Deerfield Reservoir at 5,000 feet. This camp is an ideal setting for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in Black Hills National Forest.   
  
Sites in the campground are widely spaced, and a few offer wide views of the lake. Of the 3 campgrounds in the Deerfield Recreation Area, this one is the most RV-friendly.

## Recreation

Black Hills National Forest offers recreational opportunities for all ages. Guests can take advantage of opportunities for hiking, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, and riding off-highway vehicles (OHVs) on moderate terrain.  
  
Open to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders, the 10-mile Deerfield Lake Loop Trail encircles Deerfield Lake, traversing the forested shoreline. It offers fantastic views and opportunities for birding and picnicking.  
  
Across the lake, Deerfield Trail connects Deerfield Lake with Rapid Creek and Pactola Reservoir. Sites including a log flume, cabins, mines, tunnels and railroad grades provide visitors with a glimpse into the area's history.  
  
Deerfield Reservoir is an ideal spot for fishing and boating. The lake supports populations of stocked rainbow and native brown trout.

## Facilities

Dutchman Campground has sites able to accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. The campground has picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, and drinking water; however, electrical hook-ups are not available. Lake access is within walking distance. Deerfield Lake is a no wake lake.

Located in western South Dakota and northeastern Wyoming, Black Hills National Forest encompasses nearly 1.25 million acres of rugged rock formations, canyons and gulches, open grassland parks, tumbling streams, deep blue lakes, and unique caves.

Although abundant, camping in Wyoming is extremely sought after, especially near the park. Twelve campgrounds within Yellowstone National Park provide adventurers with plentiful options, but planning ahead is vital. The Canyon Campground allows easy access to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a picture-perfect waterfall and river vista in the north-central region. Visit Artist’s Point and hike the 300 feet down to the lower falls to feel the rush of the Yellowstone River. 


For a more touristy experience, snag a site in the Madison Campground. Being one of the largest in the park and less than 20 miles from the famous geyser Old Faithful, this area is a go-to for first time visitors. Sitting at an elevation just below 7,000 feet, the crisp mountain air will refresh. This area gets a lot of traffic, so pack in your patience and remember that the parks are for everyone to enjoy. 


Camping in Wyoming also gives the chance to get off the grid. Grand Teton National Park is directly to the south of Yellowstone and allows for some easy-access backpacking. When done right, you can avoid the droves of humanity that flock to the Greater Yellowstone region. 


For an easy trek into the backcountry, get a scenic spot along Leigh Lake or String Lake. These camping sites are often booked months in advance, so get them quick! A hidden gem tucked in the shadow of Mount Moran is Bearpaw Lake and is also relatively accessible from the same trail. Remember your bear spray and enjoy some genuine Wyoming camping!

This is an owned lot that is available for rent on a limited basis for small campers and RV's. This lot is perfect for a safe place to overnight park. Pets welcome but must be on leash and cleaned up after. This lot is on a gravel packed road, directly off the highway. You do have to back up, so smaller rigs are a better fit. Total of 7 people welcome with each reservation. Class C RV's that are the size of a grey hound bus not going to work due to having to back into lot and maneuvering. If you have a large 5th wheel this may not be the lot for you If you do not have good backing skills. 50/30/20 Amp service. No Water. No Sewer. You will be on your own and being quiet is a must. No trailers with ATV's. One RV or camper is allowed per reservation.



Safe Overnight on Ginty Ct in Lead SD 

Looking for seclusion? Redbank Springs Campground is located off the beaten path and offers limited sites for those wanting to be surrounded by the sounds of nature. Situated west of Deerfield Lake along Road #294, this campground only has four sites. This lesser-known location is rustic and is tucked away in a beautiful spot in the Black Hills. Sites are available first-come, first serve.

NOTE: Redbank Springs Campground Opens Memorial Weekend 2023. Campers at this location are advised that garbage services are not available in 2023 and this campground will be open with limited services at this time as the forest is in the process of getting toilets decommissioned/replaced. Campers will need to follow pack it in and pack it out procedures. Forest officials ask that campers be respectful of the campground, surrounding area, and leave it in good condition for the next user(s). If conditions create unsafe or unsanitary situations, the campground will be closed. Forest Recreation Management (FRM) – campground concessionaire - is not providing any operational services to Redbank Springs Campground in 2023. Hell Canyon Ranger District will be serving as the point of contact for any operational needs, management actions, or concerns related to this campground.  District staff can be reached by calling (605) 673-9200.

We are a bit off the beaten path, but if you enjoy nature like we do, Camp Barlow is the perfect spot for you! The campground is nestled in a peaceful meadow draw surrounded by 75 acres of rolling hills and trees - all of which you are free to hike! We built our campsites to be spacious. Each site is fairly level and is equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. We currently do not have hookups but we do offer water (shared) to use during your stay.



Our place requires quite a bit of work to keep everything running, but we love to share our little slice of bliss. We are usually around the place and willing to assist when needed, however we do take a hands-off approach running the campground to make it as relaxed as possible. On your arrival date, there is no need to check-in. Simply drive to your campsite and make yourself at home!



Camp Barlow

Our campground is located at the East end of Custer SD. Our property features French creek which has a couple of wide pools. The rest of the creek is fairly narrow with slow-moving water. Lots of water fowl frequent the area as well as deer in the evening. Kids will have a great time exploring the lower acreage. We plan to add new features & amenities to the park every year. We love being near so many scenic spots in South Dakota. We are looking forward to hearing about your adventures during your stay.

Setting up your own campsite away from developed fee sites, also known as dispersed camping, is allowed on most of the Forest for a maximum of 14 days in any 60-day period. However, around developed reservoirs and campgrounds, camping is allowed only in designated areas. Check with the closest Forest Service office for specific information.

General rules:

Camp 100 feet away from any creek or stream and 1/2 mile away from developed recreation sites, including campgrounds and picnic areas.
Motorized vehicles allowed 300 feet off of roads as shown on the Motor Vehicle Use Map (dots) for dispersed camping on the Black Hills National Forest. 
Around developed reservoirs and campgrounds, camping is allowed only in designated campsites.
Can camp for a maximum of 14 days in any 60-day period. 
No open campfires in South Dakota portions of the national forest.
Open campfires are permitted in Wyoming portions of the national forest, unless a special order prohibiting such is in effect. 
Check with the closest Forest Service office for more specific information about dispersed camping.
