The Louis Lake Campground has nine campsites around Louis Lake and the outlet of Louis Creek. The area around the inlet is very marshy and home to abundant wildlife. No trailers over 24 feet. Amenities include two vault toilet, picnic tables, and cook grates. Potable water is not available. The nearby Louis Lake Boating and Picnic Site includes a boat ramp, vault toilet, picnic tables, and cook grates.

The Atlantic City Campground is in the South Pass area. It features 18 campsites, fire rings, garbage collection, water (weather permitting), picnic tables, vault toilets and can accommodate large recreational vehicles. The site is ADA Accessible. There are seasonal closures and occasionally there is a host on site. Be aware, this is bear country! This is a fee site. Typical use season is June 1 - October 31.

Atlantic City Campground

Big Atlantic Gulch Campground is in the South Pass area. It features 10 campsites, fire rings, garbage collection, water (weather permitting), picnic tables, vault toilets and can accommodate medium sized recreational vehicles. The site is ADA Accessible. There are seasonal closures and occasionally there is a host on site. Be aware, this is bear country! This is a fee site and typical use season is June 1 - October 31.

Big Atlantic Gulch Campground

The Cottonwood Campground is a developed camping site an semi-alpine setting. The site features 18 campsites, fire rings, water, picnic tables, vault toilets, garbage collection, and can accommodate large recreational vehicles. Season of use runs June 1 to October 31. The Green Mountain Loop Road above the campground is open June 15 - December 1.

Wild Iris is one of the most beautiful sport climbing areas in the U.S. It's hard to beat a warm summer day spent climbing the white limestone pockets of Wild Iris. And to top it off, you'll belay comfortably beneath a peaceful canopy of aspen trees. Sublime.

The climbs are mostly short, and occasionally sharp, but the climbing and experience is more than enough to compensate for these minor drawbacks. There are plenty of routes from 5.9 on up to 5.14, so most climbers will find more than enough to stay busy.

Wild Iris is located at Limestone Mountain at an elevation of 9,000 feet. The climbing season begins when the snow melts (early June) and can last into Fall. The high altitude makes summer climbing pleasant, but be aware that the weather can change at any moment - wind and cold storms are common all summer. Many of the climbs face south, so also be prepared for warm temps! Remember this is Wyoming - land of the extremes!

A number of primitive spots are available for camping, and an outhouse is located just up from the main parking lot. Closest supplies are located in Lander.

The Lander Bar comes highly recommended for food and drink - it's a climbing tradition!

Although abundant, camping in Wyoming is extremely sought after, especially near the park. Twelve campgrounds within Yellowstone National Park provide adventurers with plentiful options, but planning ahead is vital. The Canyon Campground allows easy access to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a picture-perfect waterfall and river vista in the north-central region. Visit Artist’s Point and hike the 300 feet down to the lower falls to feel the rush of the Yellowstone River. 


For a more touristy experience, snag a site in the Madison Campground. Being one of the largest in the park and less than 20 miles from the famous geyser Old Faithful, this area is a go-to for first time visitors. Sitting at an elevation just below 7,000 feet, the crisp mountain air will refresh. This area gets a lot of traffic, so pack in your patience and remember that the parks are for everyone to enjoy. 


Camping in Wyoming also gives the chance to get off the grid. Grand Teton National Park is directly to the south of Yellowstone and allows for some easy-access backpacking. When done right, you can avoid the droves of humanity that flock to the Greater Yellowstone region. 


For an easy trek into the backcountry, get a scenic spot along Leigh Lake or String Lake. These camping sites are often booked months in advance, so get them quick! A hidden gem tucked in the shadow of Mount Moran is Bearpaw Lake and is also relatively accessible from the same trail. Remember your bear spray and enjoy some genuine Wyoming camping!

The Honeycomb Buttes WSA encompasses 39,908 acres of BLM-administered land, 640 acres of split estate and 640 acres of state land. This WSA is one of the best examples of badlands topography in Wyoming with its many colored bluffs, small draws and side canyons. Twisted and contorted erosional features dominate the landscape. The buttes are scattered with petrified wood and fossilized turtle shell. The Honeycomb Buttes WSA provides outstanding opportunities for various kinds of primitive and unconfined recreation. These opportunities include rockhounding, nontechnical climbing on the clay and rocky buttes, spelunking in the many erosion caves found in the buttes, and wildlife and outdoor photography. Opportunities also exist for backpacking, hunting and horseback riding. The remarkable scenic quality of this WSA greatly enhances the recreational values. This is a fee-free area. The boundary roads are accessible in most locations.

The Killpecker Sand Dunes Open Play Area Campground is located about 32 miles from Rock Springs. It is a non-fee area and is ADA accessible. It has a vault toilet and fire rings. The [Killpecker Sand Dunes Open Play Area](https://www.blm.gov/visit/search-details/2252/2) is part of the Greater Sand Dunes Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC). ACECs are areas within the public lands where special management attention is required to protect and prevent irreparable damage to important resources. Important resources in this area include wildlife, cultural, scenic, and wilderness. The western portion of the ACEC includes the Sand Dunes and Buffalo Hump Wilderness Study Areas (WSA). These are areas of land that have potential for inclusion in the National Wilderness Preservation System. The BLM is required by law to maintain the natural character of WSAs. Recreational activities like hiking, hunting, and horseback riding are allowed while those that involve the use of motorized vehicles or mechanical transportation are not.

Killpecker Sand Dunes Open Play Area Campground

The Oregon Buttes WSA encompasses 5,700 acres of BLM-administered land with no private or state inholdings. The buttes are a prominent landmark, rising out of the northwestern portion of the Red Desert to an elevation of 8,612 feet. The area includes a wide variety of vegetation types including limber pine stands, thick aspen stands and wet meadows. The Oregon Buttes are an island in the Red Desert and were a landmark for settlers traveling the Oregon Trail. Opportunities for primitive and unconfined recreation are outstanding in the WSA. Being prime raptor habitat, the buttes provide bird watchers with a variety of species and uninterrupted observation. The WSA is also a prime area for scenic and wildlife photography, offering a unique variety of settings and subjects. Other recreation opportunities include hiking, rock climbing, rock hounding, backpacking, hunting, horseback riding and sightseeing. This is a fee-free site. The boundary route is accessible in most locations.

Oregon Buttes WSA

The Fiddlers Lake Campground has 20 campsites on the shores of a scenic mountain lake. There are trails leading into the Popo Agie Wilderness and also south to nearby lakes. No trailers over 40 feet long. Amenities include potable water, five vault toilets, picnic tables, and cook grates. Christina Lake Trail Head is located nearby and has a vault toiltet and horse corrals.
