Yellowstone National Park is the home of almost 3,500 square miles of nationally protected lands. From rushing waterfalls, roaring rivers, soaring peaks, and marvels of geology such as Old Faithful, the park has sights not even imagination even conjure. For this reason, hundreds of thousands visit every year. Plan ahead and experience once-in-a-lifetime camping in Wyoming in the process. 


Although abundant, camping in Wyoming is extremely sought after, especially near the park. Twelve campgrounds within Yellowstone National Park provide adventurers with plentiful options, but planning ahead is vital. The Canyon Campground allows easy access to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, a picture-perfect waterfall and river vista in the north-central region. Visit Artist’s Point and hike the 300 feet down to the lower falls to feel the rush of the Yellowstone River. 


For a more touristy experience, snag a site in the Madison Campground. Being one of the largest in the park and less than 20 miles from the famous geyser Old Faithful, this area is a go-to for first time visitors. Sitting at an elevation just below 7,000 feet, the crisp mountain air will refresh. This area gets a lot of traffic, so pack in your patience and remember that the parks are for everyone to enjoy. 


Camping in Wyoming also gives the chance to get off the grid. Grand Teton National Park is directly to the south of Yellowstone and allows for some easy-access backpacking. When done right, you can avoid the droves of humanity that flock to the Greater Yellowstone region. 


For an easy trek into the backcountry, get a scenic spot along Leigh Lake or String Lake. These camping sites are often booked months in advance, so get them quick! A hidden gem tucked in the shadow of Mount Moran is Bearpaw Lake and is also relatively accessible from the same trail. Remember your bear spray and enjoy some genuine Wyoming camping!

Weeping Rock Campground is a popular spot for fishermen, campers and picnickers and offers fishing and boat access to the Green River. It has 10 campsites with picnic tables, barbecue grills, and a vault toilet. Trout and kokanee salmon live in this area of the Green River, and since the area is restricted to motorboats, the fishing is always good. This site is located near historic resources. Please do not collect or damage resources.

Weeping Rock Campground

Historic La Barge Guard Station is located 87 miles north of Kemmerer, Wyoming in the Hams Fork Area of Bridger-Teton National Forest. The cabin is situated in beautiful La Barge Meadow, among vibrant summer wildflowers at the base of pine-covered Commissary Ridge. Constructed in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the rustic cabin welcomes guests for sightseeing, hiking, fishing and more. Pets and horses are allowed at the cabin. Recreation Hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding are popular summer activities in the surrounding area. The Wagner Pass Trail begins behind the cabin, offering scenic hiking as it follows the Lander Cutoff Historical Trail. Snowmobiling and cross country skiing can be done right out the front door in winter. La Barge Creek offers pleasant trout fishing opportunities. Facilities The guard station is a basic, 1930s style CCC cabin with two rooms. It sleeps six people on three bunkbeds with mattresses. The cabin is available year-round. The cabin is equipped with a propane oven, refrigerator, lights and a wood stove. Water is not guaranteed and if water is on , i ndoor plumbing is still not available. A vault toilet is located behind the cabin. Some dishes, pots, pans and utensils are provided, but the presence of these items is not guaranteed. No electricity, linens or bedding are provided. In winter, no drinking water is available, so guests should bring plenty for drinking and cooking. Recommended items to bring include dish soap, dish towels, toilet paper, garbage bags and a flashlight. If firewood is on site, this is a courtesy but is not guarenteed. If available, please use only what you need. Always be prepared to collect wood locally or bring to site from local resources. Natural Features The cabin sits near La Barge Creek in a grassy meadow at about 8,500 feet in elevation. Pine trees dot the land around the cabin and cover the surrounding hillsides. Moose, elk, eagles and sandhill cranes are among the wildlife likely to be seen. An abundance of wildflowers color the landscape in summer. The Bridger-Teton National Forest offers more than 3.4 million acres of public land for outdoor recreation. With its pristine watersheds, abundant wildlife and immense wildlands, the forest comprises a large part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the largest intact ecosystem in the lower 48 states. Highline RV Park is located just south of Boulder, Wyoming at the base of the Wind River Range. We have 47 sites with full hookups, including four buddy sites for those traveling with friends or family. With over four acres of open lawn, you also have the option to dry camp or tent camp. And if you didn't bring your own tent, no problem! Enjoy a stay in our teepee or wall tent!

From our park you can explore the lakes and back country of the Wind River Mountains, spend time in Pinedale, make a day trip to Jackson and Teton National Park, or simply relax and enjoy the peaceful setting we offer. Green River Fear-Reardon Draw Public Access Area

The Slate Creek campground is just south of the shores of Fontenelle Reservoir, on the Green River, and just north of Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge. The area is a mecca for birdwatching and fishing. Free facilities for this area include designated camping sites, 2 ADA accessible vault toilets, picnic areas and fishing access to the Green River. This site is near historic resources. Please do not collect or damage these resources.

Slate Creek Campground

The Tail Race Campground features three campsites with fire rings and a vault toilet. This campground is wedged between Fontenelle Reservoir and Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge, and so makes a fantastic site for birding, fishing, or non-motorized water sports. Historically, this area was a gathering place for trappers during their annual rendezvous, and the modern day explorer can still see the lure of such a rich and welcoming area.

Lake Alice Campground has 9 campsites and is a 1.5 mile hike east from the Hobble Creek Campground. Lake Alice provides beautiful views, fishing and a variety of hiking and horseback opportunities to visitors. Visitors are strongly encouraged to practice clean camping techniques and to store attractants (e.g. food, toothpaste) in a manner that makes them unavailable to bears.

The Hobble Creek Campground is a beautiful and remote campsite on the Kemmerer Ranger District. The Hobble Creek Campground is located at the trailhead to Lake Alice and offers 18 campsites, toilet, trash and potable water in the summer on fish-filled Hobble Creek. Corrals are available for stock. Lake Alice, is a short 1.5 mile hike east from the campground. Trailers longer than 30 feet are not recomended. The Hobble Creek Campground is also located close to the Hobble Creek Trailhead where visitors and continue along Hobble Creek and eventually connect in to the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail. Visitors are strongly encouraged to practice clean camping techniques and to store attractants (e.g. food, toothpaste) in a manner that makes them unavailable to bears.
