    Red River State Park

Perfect for the month of October!

I'm always looking for a campsite late in the afternoon. And this one turned out to be perfect. I pulled into East Grand forks. Got out my phone and started looking, and I said oh, there's a state campground right near here. Here. Right in town in fact. I'm traveling with the dog on this trip so I'm always looking for places that I can run the dog, if possible off leash in the morning. Well, technically you're not supposed to have docs off leash here, there's plenty of space down along the river and trails that go away from the campground where the dog can have a little bit of a free exercise. Because it's October, the place is almost empty. And I got one of the no hookup sites, so it was reasonably priced.

    Nice campground

We spent a 3-day weekend here as a shake-down cruise for our new camper. It was nice to have full water, electric, and sewer hookups. The sites are well prepared, mostly level and pull-through. We enjoyed being able to bike the greenway on both sides of the river and downtown is just a couple blocks away.

    Big iron show

Big event, we're lucky to find his space open. campground completely full , thousands of pickups and cars. Level sites with cement pad. Some pull through most back in. Amazingly, very quiet at night.

    Red River State Park

    A delightful place to stay

We stayed here for 2 nights on the way north to Canada and another night after crossing the border again.  It is a lovely park with large crescent shaped pull thru sites (There are some back-ins as well). Sites are well spaced with plenty of trees and green spaces in between.  Super walking trails, great playground, walking distance to restaurants and downtown.

    We would stay here again.

    Lindenwood Campground

    Well maintained, nice staff

Lovely campground with sites along the river and in an area closer to the office and showers.   That area is rather tight, but adequate.

    Good walking trails.

    Lindenwood Campground

    Picturesque

We opted for what the staff person told us were more level sites instead of those overlooking the river. Although our site was level, the spaces were closer together. Fine for an overnight stay. Have not checked the bathroom facilities yet, but they do stay locked, a plus.

    Red River State Park

    Highly Recommend

We followed the instructions on the confirmation email across the bridge from Grand Forks to East Grand Forks, MN to check into the campground (CG). After going through the Avenue of Flags and near the Blue Moose Bar& Grill there’s RV parking in front of the little check-in cabin. Check-in was easy and as disabled veterans, we got a free Minnesota State Park Vehicle Pass. We then proceeded to the Sherlock CG, which is the camping area and site 106E. Site 106E is a long pull through with FHUs. Pulling in was super easy and utilities are placed in the middle of the long pad. The utilities worked great with water pressure at about 50 psi. We got two bars on Verizon. There are trees in and around the sites, but we were able to get a clear north shot for Starlink. The sites in our area were well spaced apart, which we really liked. We were on the back row where the cement walking/bike trail is located far enough away that you still have privacy. There are a lot of sites in this CG mostly pull throughs but there are back-ins. They are serious about the vehicle permits and you cannot just lay the pass on your dashboard. It must be adhered to the windshield. We went to the office to clear our ticket, which didn’t cost us anything as we were prompt to respond. The office also has t-shirts, which we purchased. There was not a formal dog park, but plenty of areas to walk. Red River is one of the better CGs we have stayed at in our 5 years of“Most Timing.”

    Heiberg Park

    Clean, quiet, well maintained

Heiberg Park near Twin Valley, Minnesota, is a gem for anyone seeking a peaceful and well-maintained spot to unwind. The park offers a few modern pieces of playground equipment, making it a great place for families with children.

One of its highlights is the serene stream that runs through the park, adding to its tranquil atmosphere. The park also has a picnic shelter that’s perfect for gatherings; it’s just a roofed area without walls, designed to provide shade for those enjoying a meal outdoors. The lawn is always kept in top shape, with the grass trimmed neatly, and you’ll rarely, if ever, find trash littering the ground, which speaks volumes about the care taken to maintain this space.

For those interested in fishing, the park borders the Wild Rice River, and while some have good luck with their catch, my experience hasn’t been as successful—but that hasn’t diminished my enjoyment of the setting.

The park is a quiet retreat, perfect for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle for a while. Whether you’re there for a picnic, some playtime with the kids, or just to enjoy the outdoors, Heiberg Park is a lovely choice.

    Beautiful with easy hikes

Lovely hiking, somewhat close campsites but good amount of tree/brush coverage separating them. Fantastic services (bath house, visitor center, etc).

    Lindenwood Campground

    Very nice & convenient

The convenience and price can’t be beat. For $35 a nice asphalt pad, big grassy site right on the river. Sure there’s some road noise but $35! Very clean bathrooms that are for the overnight campers only, big playground, ball fields, plenty of space to roam and walk. A beautiful city park. We were in town the same night as a street fair down town so we took an $8 Uber and had a great time shopping hundreds of local vendors and food trucks. Pretty awesome Fargo experience all around.

    Red Trail Vineyard RV Park

    Potential to be very good

We stopped here briefly in a cross country trip, so we got in late and left in the morning. This looks like a new site, made in a flat field near the vineyard. It is basically an open flat field with power/water hook ups in the middle and 14 gravel spots on either side. There are a few young trees planted, but no shade. No picnic tables, no restrooms, all pretty bare bones. There is one shared fire pit for the entire camp near the dumpster. The grass was freshly cut and there was no litter. The grapes growing next to us was a nice view to wake up to.

The one dumpster was very full, and no camp host or personelle to ask questions to. We reserved online about an hour before we arrived at 1am, and online said there were three other campers out of the 14 sites. Yet when we arrived, there were 4 additional campers there, luckily not in the spot we reserved. Heads up: There is a seven dollar tax/fee added on to our bill we didn’t know about until after we checked out. Don’t forget bug repellent. In as many forms as you can wear.

I think once the trees grow in a bit, and if they get picnic tables for each site, it would be much more user friendly.

    Red River State Park

    City camping at ita best

Not going to say anything that everybody else hasn't said in the reviews but I thought it was charming there's space between the campers and well there's no privacy there tends not to be in city campgrounds. Also it's right on the River trails so if you're a biker it's fun to do the loop that goes from both the North Dakota and the Minnesota side. The bike trails also connect you to the larger city and there's several other very charming parks and downtown neighborhoods or downtown houses to see. The walk-in sites near the river are quite nice I wouldn't come here if you wanted to be in a quiet state park but that's not the intent of the park and it's a good use of the green space. I'm fully self-contained so I didn't use the bathrooms I've heard their little bit older but there's water there's sewer there's electric sites their sites with electric only and then their sites for just camping also group sites.

    Brewer Lake Rec Area

    Very nice county campground

This is a well maintained well cared for well laid out county campground. A number of sites kind of exposed to the sun but hookups and bathrooms available. Tiny Lake for fishing and a beach for swimming. And good for North Dakota there's a large tree claim th at helps keep the wind off of you. I barely have Verizon service so if I was going to try to work I would probably have to use my satellite system but other than that it's adorable I wish it had more hiking.

    Willowood City

    First visit ever to Mayville

It is a smaller park near downtown and the college. Full hookups available but the water wasn't turned on yet not were the bathrooms open. In summer, it would be very exposed as there are a few smaller trees. The rose garden is adorable. I will have to come back end of summer and see it.

    It is very cute

I can't imagine camping here. I'm here before the campground is open and there's a striking amount of annual campers here. Most of the campers sit in the sun which I think would be hot in the summer. The park is cute The arboretum is nice there's some nice walks but overall I can't imagine sitting in the sun during the summer in North Dakota with high humidity and finding that pleasant. I did stay in the campground at the state park that has lots of shade I would recommend somebody stay there but come here if they want to go to the beach which is quite nice.

    Turtle River State Park

    Very early season camping

We spent 3 nights here and it was very cold and snowy but the bathroom was open and warm and clean and the campground has a ton of short but very nice hikes. Lots of deer and squirrels and I'm guessing really busy in the summer but was delightful to share all the trails with just wildlife.

    Buffalo River State Park

    Nice Little State Park

This campground(CG) was easy to find. Because it was a Tuesday during the off-season, the check-in gate was not open, so we proceeded back to site 24, which was electric only(50/30/20 AMP) for our two-night stay. This small state park has many trees, but with the road being wide enough, the trees weren't in the way, and with no ditch this was an easy back-in. The sites here are also nicely spaced. A park ranger came by later and gave us our post and vehicle tags. There was highway and train noise. There are mature trees in the CG, but we were able to get enough north sky for Starlink. On Verizon, we got 3 bars. There is potable water at the dump station, which is at the park entrance. The shower/restroom facility was in good shape and clean. We enjoyed the trails, some interpretative, around this state park. As the nights were cooler, we opened our bedroom windows and noticed that trains ran almost continuously through the night. Overall, we had a good visit and would consider staying here again.

    Red River State Park

    Older campground

Nice enough campground, but appears to be a bit dated. Has full hookup sites or just electric like my site. Both pull thrus and back ins. What I did like most was the site I was in is well separated from others. Located right in town, so of course there is road noise. But restaurants and bars within a block is nice. There’s a Cabellas a couple of blocks away. The bads are no dumpstation on site, older showers and pit toilets, and appears not enough help here to keep the grounds cut and trimmed.. but was still a nice stay with shopping and banking nearby.

    Lovely campground

Nice and clean campground with the best bathrooms we have been too...

good trail system with a walk through the prairie and/or by the river..the weather was perfect when we came, 75 and a breeze...

We had an incident with our cat. Cat got loose and everyone worked as a team to get him found. People were walking and looking for him. Posters went up around the grounds. We left our # with two campgrounds and as soon as they saw him 8 hours after he went missing, they called us and kept him contained. We appreciate everyone and their kind acts...

    Buffalo River State Park

    Quiet campground

We feel like we scored the best site in the campground by sheer luck. The even number sites along the open field side give you great views to be able to bird watch and wildlife viewing. . The bathhouse was clean. There is a dump station and a couple of places to fill your fresh water tanks if you are in a RV. . I do wish there was better access to the river from the campground. The trails didn’t really take you to the river.

Nice Park for a short stay

We stayed here for a weekend to try out our new camper someplace close to home. The park was nice and clean. The campground host came over and introduced himself and let us know he had firewood and could get ice if we needed it. There isn't much to do aside from some hiking and that's mostly grassy field area. If you are looking for a nice place to kick up and relax this is a good one.
