    Overview

Little Brooklyn Guard Station is located nine miles west of Centennial, Wyoming just off the Snowy Range Scenic Byway at an elevation of 10,340 feet. The guard station was constructed in 1931 as housing for Forest Service employees. Today, it is a unique year-round lodging experience for guests seeking recreation and relaxation in southeastern Wyoming. During the dry, summer months, guests can drive directly to the cabin; however during the snowy months, access is limited to snowmobiles, skis or snowshoes. Guests can expect to travel about three miles from the parking lot at Green Rock Recreation Area. Access is limited during the shoulder seasons of spring and fall when snow isnt deep enough to snowmobile on, but too deep to drive in. Please understand these limitations before deciding to reserve the cabin during this time of year. The cabin offers many modern amenities, but guests should be prepared to pack in some of their own supplies and gear, especially in winter. As stated above, please be aware that there may be snow in the area until mid-July and the road can be muddy, bumpy, or inaccessible; we recommend calling the USFS Laramie Ranger District office at (307) 745-2300 prior to your reservation to receive the latest weather and road conditions.

    Recreation

A vast hiking trail system that accesses the highest elevations of the Snowy Range is available within 2 miles of the cabin. Hikers may attempt to summit Medicine Bow Peak, the highest peak in the Range at an elevation of 12,013 feet. Sheep Lakes Trail and Glacier Lakes Trails are also nearby. Fishing is available at many alpine lakes and streams, including Brooklyn Lake and Little Brooklyn Lake, which is within walking distance of the cabin. Winter brings deep powder snow for the snowmobiler, snowshoer and cross-country skier. Opportunities exist for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and hunting in designated areas nearby.

    Natural Features

From valleys and canyons that rise steeply to jagged ridges, the area around the cabin boasts alpine lakes and a mixed forest of spruce, lodgepole pine, subalpine fir and aspen. In the summer, guests can enjoy a view of wildflowers spilling down the meadow in front of the cabin to the edge of serene Little Brooklyn Lake. In winter, this same meadow is blanketed in pristine snow. Wildlife is abundant near the cabin, including elk, deer and coyotes. Migratory birds, squirrels and an occasional black bear find habitat in the forest as well.

    Nearby Attractions

Guests can travel the Snowy Range Scenic Byway (Highway 130) in the summer. There are many campgrounds, picnic areas and hiking trails along its course. The small Snowy Range Ski Resort is adjacent to this scenic byway as well; however, portions of Highway 130 are not completely accessible during the winter.

Basic cooking and eating utensils, plates, knives, forks, spoons, cups, and basic pots and pans are furnished. If you use these items, they need to be cleaned and put away after use. Overview

Perched atop a forested mountain, Spruce Mountain Fire Lookout Tower offers visitors a unique lodging experience in Medicine Bow National Forest in southcentral Wyoming. The original fire lookout was constructed during the summer of 1938 by workers employed through the New Deal's Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). After thirty years of use, it was replaced with a taller, more structurally sound tower. The new 55-foot tall tower was used as a fire lookout until the 1990s when it was renovated and opened to the public for overnight rental in 1997.The lookout is typically open from June through September. Guests can drive directly to the lookout most of the season. Several amenities are provided, but guests should be prepared to pack in some of their own supplies and gear for a comfortable stay.__Please be aware during the month of June snow drifts may prevent you from driving directly to the tower and you may need to pack items in from a longer distance. For more information on conditions please call the Laramie Ranger District Office prior to arivial at 307-745-2300

    Recreation

The area around the lookout offers opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and hunting. The lookout is also ideal for guests who simply want to relax and enjoy picnics, campfires and stargazing at night. Rob Roy Reservoir is a six mile drive from the lookout, offering opportunities for fishing, boating and water skiing. Gold panning is a popular activity in Douglas Creek, which is connected to the reservoir.

    Natural Features

The lookout offers panoramic views that include Medicine Bow Peak, Rob Roy Reservoir, Jelm Mountain and the southern end of the Snowy Range. Snowdrifts melt in June, welcoming the arrival of wildflowers that splash color on the rocky, timbered hillsides. Wildlife species such as elk, deer, black bears, cougars, squirrels, foxes and bats are supported by the area's diverse forest habitats. At an elevation of 10,003 feet, guests should be prepared for high altitude conditions. Summertime temperatures average 70 degrees fahrenheit, but can drop as low as 30 degrees at night or during thunderstorms.

    Overview

The cabin offers an ideal winter playground, with a snowy landscape perfect for recreation. Snowmobiling, skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities. The Brush Creek Cross-Country Ski Trails are made up of loop trails winding through aspen, lodgepole pine stands and reclaimed clear-cuts. The frequency of trail grooming depends on weather conditions and equipment.

    Recreation

After the Wyoming Highway Department closes their gate for the winter the highway becomes a popular snowmobile trail. The Wyoming State Trails map shows over 300 miles of groomed and ungroomed trail. A new map is created each year. Other recreational opportunities in the area include cross country skiing on the trails behind the Barracks and sledding at the old Ryan Park Ski Area.

    Natural Features

The Snowy Range is aptly named. The Barracks, at 8,100 feet, receives early autumn snow and by Halloween the snow is beginning to accumulate. Eight miles up from the Barracks is the Highway 130 winter closure gate.

We left early due to poor customer service and horrible accommodations.

New owner – previously Laramie KOA

Good place to stop for the night on the way to Boulder Colorado. We had made our reservation many months before while it was still a KOA. We had picked this location because it was on our route and would allow us to reach Boulder early the next morning. The staff was quite friendly and facilities well maintained. Our site was small but being separated by a short wall was private enough.

Decent place for a short stop-over

Stayed one night, basically to do laundry in a place with a playground to entertain the kids meanwhile. And this place did the job. There is no charm to the location it self. There is no internet connection at all. Be aware that it is no longer associated with KoA but Applewood.

    Nice park but tight spots.

We stayed at The Laramie KOA in August 2021. This is a FHU RV Park which offers a variety of sites including premium extra large pull-thru sites. We opted to save the added expense of the premium sites and stayed at a regular pull thru-site. These sites are very close together which was difficult to negotiate into with our fifth wheel. The sites are so close together that I had my neighbors sewer hose directly in front of my camp chair between my legs. 😳👎🏻 Next time we will opt for a premium site because this is a very nice, well maintained KOA with an excellent staff. There is a nice dog run here and lots of green space to walk dogs. We were able to receive mail here, also. All in all, we would recommend this park and enjoyed our stay here. If you would like to see videos of this park and others, please check out our YouTube channel: Jeff & Steff’s Excellent Adventure.

    Bow River Ranger Station

1960s cabin, basic amenities incl water, showers, kitchen, bunkbeds, toilet

Cute little place, very quiet and pretty. Creekside cabin, with fire ring and picnic table.

BYO toilet paper, just in case ... we had 1/2 a roll.

Cabin is definitely showing its age, though the four-burner electric stove and the white fridge-freezer work just fine. It has three sinks, two showers, one toilet, plus a long outdoor laundry line.

We were there with our Girl scout troop (six 13-year-olds). The picnic table and the large kitchen table were great for meals and crafts, such as tie dying shirts, making scented candles, etc.

The kitchen has plates, bowls, mugs, forks and glasses/cups. You may want to bring a measuring cup, spoons, knives, napkins, sponges (for washing up).

DONT FORGET TO PACK OUT ALL OF YOUR TRASH. The two groups before us didn't; what jerks.

We drove 12 miles from this cabin to hike to Crater Lake; it's pretty country. Dusty roads, loads of stars, other little creeks nearby.

Clean facility, great staff, interstate noise

This is a clean facility run by friendly staff members. It’s well organized and attractive. The interstate traffic is LOUD and the WiFi is hit or miss. Spaces are quite close together. For the price, I can’t say I feel like it was a bargain, but I did appreciate the flexibility of the location and the people.

Good spot for a quick overnight- close to the highway, gas, and a short 8 minute drive into Laramie for some good local food and drink. Spots are close together like more KOAs but check in is easy and we were offered a spare site to empty the tank on our way out. Would stay again!

    Wood Landing Campground

    Hidden Gem

This small campground is located on the Laramie River at historic Wood's Landing. It has log cabins with common facilities and 5 available water/30 amp electric and a dump station. The sites are small but the location is feet from fine trout fishing and a good restaurant open Wednesday through Sunday. It has a small store and a gas pump where fishing licenses are sold. We stayed for a week and explored Big Creek Lake, the North Platte and the Snowy Range, earning the weekly rate. Some sites have a fire pit and table, ours did not.

    Simple but nice

State parks were full so we stopped over in Laramie. Originally planned on a tent site but once we saw how open the tent space was, we decided to grab a dog friendly cabin instead. It was cozy with air conditioning and a mini fridge. Kind of a weird location between a neighborhood and hotels.. but it did the trick. Nice community fire pit for us to relax next to in the evening. Staff were friendly and helpful and bathrooms were clean.

    Night stop

Needed a stop for the night and this sufficed. The check in without a reservation was smooth and painless. The sites look newly rocked and clean. Our site was full hookup which was convenient. Firepits provided and they looked brand new. Location is off the interstate and you can hear it all night. There is literally not a drop Of shade - i would expect it would be hot as hell in the middle of the rock during the day. Fine for a night - nothing more.

    A place to sleep safely

Older clean campground, Laramie is a great small town w all amenities, the campground provides necessities and a place to stay for night, would not want to stay more than a night, its clean. They are adding new section, it is next to two mobile home parks and freeway. Wifi was pathetic.

    Beautiful

Checked in early evening but could still see the Snake River from our lot. Plenty of people out enjoying the evening stroll to the river & fishing. Extremely clean restrooms and bathhouse, always a plus! Beautiful sunrise! Staff was very helpful in accommodating our 65 ft set up!

    Along interstate 80

Over nice Guest services— dog run, small fitness center, shop, playground, laundry, Wi-fi, cable. Those running the KOA - were very helpful and pleasant. Sites are pretty small- our slide hung over the picnic table and if someone was next to us with slides might have been very tight. Little noisy by the interstate but we had one of the sites next to it. Doesn’t bother me and was to be expected. Overall good place to just stop for the night.

Good stopover on our way home from Yellowstone

Close to the highway and the University of Wyoming.. Clean restroom facilities, friendly staff, and nice camp store. Only negatives were the campsites were a bit small, though we were on the end of an aisle and we only had a pop up) and the WiFi signal was pretty weak.
